Chapter 30: Home

Black

When I woke up, someone was lying on top of me. How I wished for that person to be my Eve. But this one was much smaller than my Eve. Much, much smaller.

The baby was sleeping on top of me. His hands were on either side of my chest. He was hugging me tightly with his little hands. The rest of the bed was empty. The baby could have slept somewhere else on the bed. Why did he have to choose me as her bed?

I thought about it for a while and in the end, concluded that the baby belonged to those minorities of human kids who can feel the life force. They are drawn to the life force subconsciously, like an ant is drawn to sugar. Though they forget this feeling as they grow up. It was the first time I was experiencing such babies from so close.

When I looked at the baby carefully, I realized that it was a girl, not a boy as I thought before. She was so adorable. She had little blonde hair, and her nose was so small. She looked really cute the way she was drooling while she slept on me. If I dare give her points, I'd give her seven out of ten. She was good, but she paled in comparison to my angel.

She was the second person ever to hug me like that, but she had committed a mistake by making me a bed. I wanted to shake her so that she'll wake up and get off me. But as my hand touched her back, I felt she was oddly warm. She had a fever, a high grade one at that.

I didn't move her. A thought drifted in my mind. That one day I might have a daughter like this girl, and she might be sick. Perhaps she would hug me the same way this girl was hugging me, and I would definitely hug my little girl back instead of pushing her away. Fatherly instinct? I didn't know that I held an instinct that is not destructive. Perhaps I was changing. The presence of my Eve was changing me for the better. I just wished that one day I would change back to the way my Eve wanted me to be.

I decided to heal that girl, but before I could attempt that, someone opened the door to my room. It was a woman with blond hair and dark eyes. She appeared to be in her thirties. But you can never judge a woman's age by her looks. I felt like I had seen her before somewhere, but I couldn't remember where.

I quickly checked for her origins. I was afraid that she might be a demon. After all, they're quite good at disguising as humans. I was in deep sleep last night. I had only placed one barrier around the house and that too long ago. When I looked at her with my all-seeing eyes, I was relieved to find out that she was a genuine human. She stared at me for a while before speaking up.

"Who the hell are you?" That woman asked loudly.

I wanted to ask her the same, but I did not want to wake up the baby. Couldn't she see the baby was sleeping?

"Shh..." I told her to keep her voice down. She looked at the sleeping girl and I was glad she stayed silent. My Eve soon entered the room after that lady.

"I'm her husband," I replied in a low voice and pointed at my Eve.

"Ehhh..." She exclaimed and turned her head towards my Eve. She stared at my Eve in disbelief. That shocked look on her face was funny. The look on my Eve's face was even funnier. Her eyes were open wide and she was gawking while looking at me.

"Black!" Eve exclaimed in an embarrassed manner. The expression on her face was too cute. I couldn't help myself from smiling at her expression. The sight in front of me was imprinted on my heart like a photograph. I wouldn't forget that in a million years.

That lady laughed along with me at her reaction. Eve wasn't wary of that lady, so it was easy to figure out that she ought to be some relative of my Eve. The girl sleeping on top of me must be that lady's daughter. I could see their similarity.

It didn't look like I'd be able to use heal on that girl. My healing ability always makes the body glow. Though the glow is faint, it's still visible. Though I don't mind telling that lady about me being an angel. But I prefer to keep it a secret. I didn't want that lady to be initiated to our world. And just like we decided last night, I was going to live as a mortal. So I decided with the other approach to heal the baby.

"Wifey. Bring me the medicine box. This baby has a fever." I patted the head of that girl. My Eve looked at us for a while. Though it was little, I could sense jealousy in her eyes. I'd be jealous too if I see someone hugging her. Our eyes met for a second and then my Eve quietly walked downstairs soon. Damn, my angel was too innocent.

'Even more innocent than you little girl,' I thought as I looked at the baby.

That lady walked from the doorway towards me and slowly tried to pick up the girl.

"Come to mama, Luna dear," she said. But that little girl didn't let go of me and kept holding me tightly.

"I'm sorry. She doesn't usually do that," the lady apologized.

"It's alright. She has a beautiful name."

I placed a pillow behind me and leaned against the wall behind in a half-sitting position. That lady covered us both with the blanket. Luna had pushed the blanket away before I woke up. By that time, my Eve was back. She gave me the box of medicines and sat beside me, inside the blanket, while that lady sat on the side of the bed.

"Jealous of a three-year-old?" I whispered in her ears.

"Just shut up, dolt." That was a new word. She had never used it before.

I didn't know a thing about medicine. I never had to use one. I had asked for medicine to prepare for my deception. I randomly chose a tablet.

"What medicine are you giving her?" That lady asked. To be honest, I didn't even look at the medicine's name.

"I'm a doctor actually," I lied to cover up. This lady was sure to kill me if I told her that I fed her baby an unknown medicine. But at least my lie saved the little girl from the suffering. I had no regret and I quickly fed that girl the tablet. In reality, I stored that tablet inside space zero and fed her a little drop of pure concentrated lifestream with healing properties. The lifestream will heal from inside out and it won't show any glow. I gave her little water from the glass nearby to complete my deception.

"Aren't you too young to be a doctor?" That lady asked again, suspiciously. Perhaps my deception was not perfect, but it was close to perfect, right? She sure was perceptive.

"I had just started my practice a while ago," I continued with my lies. I used my mind locking ability to make her forget about me being a physician. I had no other choice. This ability isn't harmful, so it was all good.

"That's nice... By the way, little Eve, who is he? He looks like your long lost sibling," the lady asked while looking at my Eve.

"No way! Why would you even think that?" Eve said and instantly got all flustered. I just enjoyed her reaction.

"You two are really... How do I explain? You are so pretty that sometimes it feels like you're out of this world and... he does too. Both of you have the same silver hair. You both appear so similar."

"We aren't related!"

"I hope so," I teased Eve and Eve looked at me. Her eyebrows flexed as if asking me why I'd say that.

"I never met my parents and we don't know about yours. Soo..." I whispered.

"You mean..." Eve's mouth opened once again in shock. It was just so fun to tease her. Her every reaction was priceless.

"Just kidding. We aren't."

"How do you know?" Eve didn't let it go. She was worried about that tiny possibility.

"You're like three months older than me. And I don't think it is possible in case of siblings." A hundred and seven days. Not only that, but my all-seeing eyes could also tell that our life force was distinct.

"You such a big jerk!" Eve said and hit my arm without holding anything back. But it tickled.

"You two sure get along well," that lady said and smiled.

"Sorry for the late introduction. This idiot is my Black. And Black, she is my aunt, Emilia."

"Your Black?"

"Yeah," Eve replied, not even knowing she had referred to me as her possession. I loved it when she called me her Black.

"Now it makes sense why you looked so familiar. Nice to meet you, mother-in-law," I said. She looked similar to Eve's mother. Almost as if they were twins.

"Mother-in-law?" Eve looked towards me again with raised eyebrows and slightly tilted head.

"Nice to meet you too, son-in-law," and when Aunt Emi said those words to tease Eve along with me, I just knew I'd get along well with her.

"Sorry for intruding in your room. I just panicked when I couldn't find Luna downstairs. Didn't expect anyone to be here."

"It's alright."

"Stop ignoring me," my Eve said and pulled my cheeks lightly. She was behaving much cuter than ever before. I wondered if it was the aftereffect of our little date. I should take her out more often.

"It is a surprise for me though. I've never seen Eve interested in anyone. How long have you two been together?"

"A few weeks, I guess," Eve replied.

"Whoa! Just what kind of magician are you? To steal the heart of the untouchable." It was later I found out that my Eve was nicknamed as the untouchable in high school because of her behaviour.

"He's one hell of a magician. Show her your magic someday." Eve said referring to the tricked I pulled off using my abilities before. I could show magic tricks to aunt Emi but I just have to be a little more careful. I'm not used to showing off my abilities.

"It better be not any hypnosis or you're dead." I couldn't help but laugh upon hearing one more person threatening me.

"Don't threaten him. He's quite dangerous. He got connections in the underworld." Eve defended me. I am the strongest angel, but my Eve always tries to defend and protect me every time. It always feels heartwarming to know that there is this person in front of whom I can be weak.

I looked at my Eve. She was talking with my future mother-in-law. The words fell on my ears, but my brain refused to decipher them. All it wanted was to do was to remember the way her lips curl in a smile every time. The way her eyes shine with a pure light that originates from deep within her soul. The way some of her hair escape the bunch and come on her face to disturb her and how she gently pushes them back behind her ears. The way strawberry-like blush appears on her skin ever so often.

I saw a vision of the wilds. The place I used to call my home. The place where I spent my childhood with mother. I remembered what mother once told me that one day.

'One day, you will have a new home, child. A real home that will be far better than this one. A home where you can feel the warmth of family.'

'I don't believe it. Nothing can be better than being with mother.'

'Silly child, one day, you'll find it. And when you do, don't forget me.'

I didn't believe her, like always. The vision disappeared and in front of me was my Eve. I realized that she was my home, my family.

I was so overwhelmed by all the emotions that I felt like crying again. All I wanted was to give her a tight hug and just kiss her. And I remembered something. I was glad that my head and heart never disappoint me.

"Wifey!" I said, and she turned her head towards me.

I didn't waste any time in locking my target. Then I closed my eyes and kissed her right on her lips. I placed my right hand on her face. I kissed as passionately as I could to tell her my feelings. She didn't resist. Not even a slight. When I want to tell about my feelings, words fail me. But I realized that kissing is a quicker and better way to communicate. We connect to a deeper level and I can pour as much of my feelings as I want to. All that existed at that moment was me and her and our bare souls.

I move back after a while. My eyes opened, and I was looking right in her eyes. Her eyes weren't asking me any questions. They were just surprised.

"We're even now. Two each," I said, reminding her of the stolen kisses. My Eve just stared at me with a dumbfounded face.

"Guys... Shall I go down so that you can make out in peace?"
