Chapter 28: Vicious
"They're here," Black said, looking up in the sky. I couldn't see anything because his wide back, that appeared strong like it could shoulder the sky, was blocking my view.
"Who is here?" I asked.
"Demons," He calmly replied.
"Are we going to be alright, Black?"
"I was careless. One of them sensed me already. Other two are far away."
"What should we do now?" Black turned back and glared at me.
"We? You are going back home, missy. And I am going to scare them off."
"But..." I protested. I wanted to stay with him. I knew I could do nothing to help him and I might get in the way too, but I was just worried about him.
"He's trying to run away. Go home now."
Black bent his knees a little. I remembered that pose from my dreams. I thought I'd see his wing appear on his back, but he disappeared the next second. I sensed a gust of wind and a loud sound like some sonic boom. He had already taken off before I knew. The ground where he stood had little crackers, and a shallow crater had formed there. Those black feathers from his wing were the only thing that he left behind.
It wasn't surprising though. I was already used to his supernatural powers. Therefore, without wasting time, I looked up and tried to search for him in the starlit sky.
I couldn't see clearly because of the darkness but I guess I saw a silhouette of a black figure far away in the sky which was moving too slowly in comparison to the silhouette of my Black. My Black reached the other person in just a few seconds. Next moment, one of them had started falling towards the ground. The other one was slowly descending along with the falling body.
My Black was already tired after the date. The paleness on his face had reduced significantly over time, but he still was tired. It was already dangerous for him to confront an enemy. I was so damn worried while thinking about the possibility that what if it was my Black who fell? What if my Black gets injured? What if I could never see Black again?
Before that person even fell on the ground, I had already sat down in the car and started driving in that direction.
My head was full of chaotic and bloody thoughts, but I was able to find my way to where they were supposed to drop. I stopped my car nearby and ran barefoot to find my Black. But I could only hear the silence of the night. Aside from that, nothing else. And that worried me more. I had a rough idea of the location, but that was just rough. I ran here and there, on different streets and different roads.
"...really are a monster." Finally, I someone's voice coming from the alley ahead. Someone was apparently saying things about my Black. It hurt knowing how even a devil dares to call him a monster, but I was a little relieved to find that my Black was alright. I stopped running instantly and slowly walked towards that direction.
"Stop trying and save me some work, will you?" I heard Black. His voice was no longer gentle. It was fierce, cold and a little scary too. I kept myself behind the wall and peeked in. There was a man on the ground with long, bat-like wings on his back. I couldn't see his face because his back was towards me. A slightly bent long sword had pierced his ankle joint and anchored him to ground. Blood was coming out of the wounded leg. If he dared to move his leg, it would only hurt him more. He had nowhere to go. It was such a ruthless way to stop someone.
"Ugh..." That devil murmured something.
"These clothes are too tight," Black said as he started opening the buttons of his coat with his left hand. Black was standing right in front of that demon, a foot or two away.
"Anyway, what are you doing here, little demon?" Black asked.
"Nothing much. Just wandering around," That demon spoke in a deep voice, holding down his leg tightly.
"Do you not want to live anymore?" Black said slowly and coldly. It was the first time I heard him talk like that. He looked expressionless. And it looked like Black will do what he said without any hesitation. That demon looked at Black helplessly, but he didn't say a word more.
"I'm in a good mood today. Answer me honestly and I promise I will let you go," Black held the handle of the sword in his hand and moved it a little further. The sword cut through the demon's flesh as if it was cutting a piece of paper. I could see him trembling in pain, but he didn't scream. Black glared, and it didn't appear as if he was bluffing. "If you lie..."
"I was just scouting. Everyone knows you fell near this city, and it looked like you were in pretty bad shape. So I was ordered to look for you." Black stopped torturing that man as soon as he started speaking.
"Alone?"
"No... There are two more."
"And what are you going to do after reporting about my location?" That man didn't answer my Black.
"Didn't you hear me?" Black snapped loudly.
"There's a human hearing us... Behind me... By the rules of Gaia..." That man said. I don't know how I was caught. I was sure I didn't make any noise.
"I know it already. She has been there for a while. Tch. And you were trying to find me with such lousy ability." Black said with disdain while clicking his tongue.
"But I did find you," that man arrogantly said. I was sure that if my Black wasn't tired, there was no way that the demon could have found him. With that as a reference, I could tell that my Black was very strong.
"What are you doing here? Didn't I tell you to go home?" Black looked at me, right in my eyes. He really knew I was there.
"Sorry," I mouthed the words so he could read my lips. For some reason, I thought that I shouldn't say it loudly. He flexed his brows and showed his anger.
"Come here, Angie," Black said in an ordering tone. I moved out of hiding and started walking towards him. Black stared at that demon, threatening him of consequences if he looked back. A piece of cloth appeared in front of me. It was floating in mid-air, blocking the view of that demon so that he could not see me. I moved quickly and reached behind Black quickly.
"I wonder who this human is. To be treated so nicely by a monster."
Black glared at him in response, with raw murderous intentions...
"Angie... Is this girl the legendary angelheart? I'm curious. What's so special about this mortal?" It was a wonder how everyone seems to know about me. That demon guessed my identity in an instant, just by the way Black called me.
"Back to the question. What are you all planning?"
"The other two are coming this way," he tried to threaten Black.
"What can two more useless trash do? Useless will be useless, even if it's two or a million."
"Even you won't be able to escape this time. A party of more than a hundred higher demons are coming just to take care of you. You shouldn't have messed with us. Arrogance will be your doom. No matter how much of a monster you are, no matter how strong you are, you won't be able to save yourself. You're fated to die." That demon spoke like a madman, not even caring that he was a captive.
Black gripped my hand tightly. His emerald eyes roaring in fury.
"Do you think a hundred will be enough?" Black said with a confident laugh. He just didn't seem to care about them, as if he could crush them all anytime he wished.
"Nevermind... Let's go, Angie," Black said, and we started walking away from that demon.
"One winged devil... Do you fear us now?" That devil said when we were almost at the end of that alley. Black left my hand. I turned my head only to see that my Black was in front of that demon, holding his hair, forcing that demon to look at him right in the eye. Black pulled back that sword and threw it in air. That sword disintegrated into nothingness while it was in mid-air and disappeared. That demon cried sharply in pain. I saw that his leg had split off from his body at that moment.
"I've never been afraid. Just tell Luci that if he dared to do something stupid, he will not be forgiven... I'll kill every single one of those so-called strongest demons... No, I won't just kill them this time. I'll torture them. I'll make them bleed. I'll heal them. And I'll hurt them again and again till they beg for death. And then I will burn away their lifeforce to nothingness. Hehe... It will be fun." My Black told his intentions a deep voice and kicked that demon far away. A cold chill ran through my spine when I heard Black. He didn't look like he was kidding. That demon apparently hit the wall, but I didn't see him because my Black appeared in front of me the next second and we walked away.
"Just... what kind of angel... are you..." That demon murmured in fright, but in that silent alley, his words sounded loud.
"A very vicious one..."
