Chapter 11: Yet Adorable

"How did you get this scarf?" Lilith asked me.

Black had warned me that I should pretend to have never seen him if something like that happened, and I was going to do the same.

"I found this in my backyard but there aren't any houses nearby so I didn't know what to do of it." I patted my back in my mind for being such a good liar.

"Now what?" That guy asked her as he wrapped that scarf twice around his neck.

"You have an extra room right?"

"My parents are going to be back soon." I lied.

"Stop lying to us, miss. I can see that you live here alone." Lorex was scary. The way he raised his brows while he talked. That was scary enough to make me speechless.

"Look..." Lilith said to me as she placed both of her hands on my shoulders "What's your name?" she said while looking at me right in eyes.

"Eve."

"Look, Eve. We're not bad guys and he may seem like it, but he's harmless too. He doesn't know how to talk with others. We will not harm you or anything. But we're in a little trouble right now. So can we please stay here for just a day or two? Anywhere would be fine." She said it all in a single breath and the way he said it all was soothing. Her words dispelled the uneasiness in my heart, and my instincts told me that I wasn't in danger. Even though that guy had pointed a knife at me a while ago, I had a feeling that I could trust her words. Her eyes, as grey as clouds before the rain, stared at me asking for answers. Her eyes were just a little less pretty than my Black's eyes.

"Okay, you can stay in the living room." I pointed to the room opposite to my parents' bedroom.

"Thank you so much." Lilith spread her arms around me to give me a hug. I couldn't believe how lightly she was holding me, unlike Black, whose hug was tight every time. Lorex was just standing there, looking away, when Lilith stepped back and cleared her throat.

"Whatever, thanks." Lorex thanked buy I didn't like his behaviour but standing there looking away as if he was shy, I felt he wasn't that bad either. He had personality issues though, which he needed to clear soon or someone would beat him up because of that.

They both walked to the living room. I closed the door and was about to go when Lilith approached me again.

"One thing more, have you seen anyone nearby with silver-white hair wearing a long black coat?"

"No."

"Okay, cool. Make sure to stay away from that person if you see him. That person is dangerous." Lilith went inside the room after saying that.

They called him dangerous, but he was just sweet. They called themselves harmless, but they frightened me. I felt so useless when Lilith called him dangerous in front of me and I couldn't speak out in his defence. I was sure they weren't human. Those two were either angels or devils. They didn't look freaky to be considered devils, but who knows. Perhaps they were putting on a mask to entice others. Even if I knew who they were, even if they were after Black's life, there was nothing I could have done.

Black might be in danger, but the stories he told me about himself compelled me to have faith in him that he can take care of himself. Even though he exaggerated his story, there was surely some truth in them. At the very least, he could defend himself, right?

I silently retreated towards the bathroom on the right of the hallway to wash the rest of my clothes.
* * * * *

It was near six in the evening when I heard a knock on my door.

"Come in," I answered as I put the book entitled Atonia on the bedside. It was a fantasy one, but not as interesting as it was in the beginning. Fantasy had turned into reality in my life. My world was turned upside down. The mysteries around the corner and the sights I saw were enough to kill my interest in a mere book of fantasy. But I couldn't put down the habit of mine.

Lilith opened the door.

"Can you help us with food, Eve? We're hungry." She said while smiling and rubbing her hand on her tummy. There was something about her.

"Okay. I'll order something." I replied.

"No... Don't do that..." Lilith replied and she hesitated to tell me the reason. Even though two of them were in the living room for about six, they didn't make any trouble for me.

I went downstairs with her. The living room seemed the same way it was before. Lorex was lying on one of the three couches that were placed on the sides of a rectangular table. All three were collectively facing the wall that had a TV attached. There was a shelf below the TV. I don't know how they even spent the whole day in there without doing anything. There was a big door, made of glass, on one side of the living room leading to the backyard. It always takes a lot of time to clean that. I could see the lemon tree I planted through it. The red curtains decorate with white frails were hanging on either side of the room. The red colour matched with the colour on the walls, though the curtains had a darker shade.

"I don't know how to cook," Lilith informed me.

"I'll try to make something edible. I'm terrible at cooking too, so no promises."

"I trust you."

Lilith entered the living room as I made my way to the kitchen through the hallway. The kitchen was left to the hallway and had two doors, one connecting it to the living room. I opened the refrigerator to find out that there wasn't much in there. One day, I would die of hunger. Just then my sight fell upon the bananas. I can make them a banana shake, I thought.

I served them the shake in the coffee mugs. I was too lazy to get the glasses from the box that was placed at the far corner of the shelf.

Lorex didn't bother to say anything. Lilith was polite as always and thanked me.

It wasn't like I had a problem with those two. They appeared harmless. But I just didn't like being with those two strangers. They weren't my friends or anything. I was being forced in a way. I didn't know anything about them at all to begin with. It felt like I was in a house attest.

Just then the bell rang.

This time I felt that strange feeling in my heart. Like the way magnets behave when they're placed nearby each other, a strange force was asking me to run to the door. I was being called out through supernatural means. I knew right then it was my Black.

"Look who it is. Don't speak about us." Lorex ordered.

I walked as my consciousness told me to and without checking, I opened the door.

My salvation was standing there.

The same green eyes, the same long silver hair, the same black clothes, but there was a different expression on his face. He was annoyed. He smiled for just a fraction of second and barged inside right away. I followed him.

Lilith turned and looked at us. Lorex was ignorant and still drinking from his mug. I looked at Black, and his expressions had changed. His brows were raised a little. His rose like red lips weren't smiling at that time. That was the first time I ever saw that serious, angry look on his face.

Black walked to Lorex. He gripped that white scarf and slowly unwinded it from his neck. Lorex was taken by surprise as Black snatched the scarf. He could only look at Black without saying a word.

Black then threw his scarf at me. The scarf travelled towards me as if it were a flying snake. I somehow caught it before it fell on the ground. I didn't know my reaction time was that fast.

I looked forward again, and it shocked me when I saw Lorex hung in mid-air. Black had gripped his shirt with his left hand and raised him up with brute strength. He was almost a foot above the ground. I didn't know Black was that strong. Black threw him towards the backyard, shattering one of the glasses completely. He fell a few meters from the fence and that was quite a distance, almost fifteen meters.

Lorex stood up, still shaken from what happened, and I saw him clutch his neck in pain.

"Save me from this monster, Lilith. You said you know him, right?" He screamed from there. I could see him trembling in fear as if he had seen a ghost. He stepped back in terror.

"I can't save you, honey. No one can... It's your own fault for messing with him. Though I've no idea how you managed to do so," Lilith said as she gulped another mouthful of the shake. I couldn't believe how calm she was about everything. I could barely believe what was happening.

Black walked towards the door and put his hand on the unbroken glass door, "Sorry, I'll fix it right away," He said in a low tone as if he didn't care about how he threw that guy. And then black sprang towards him in an instant. I wondered what kind of strength he possessed that allowed him to jump to such length.

"But..." Lorex tried to speak but was interrupted when Black punched him. That guy was sent flying, and he smashed the fence. After that, Lorex let his wings out and he tried to fly away.

Black chased after him at such incredible speed that I could only see his silhouette. His movements weren't human-like at all.

"I bet he'd be back in three minutes," Lilith said. I couldn't believe how cool she was, as if she didn't see anything that had happened. It was her companion that was getting beaten down.

"How can you be so casual about it?" I couldn't hold it inside and asked her.

"Don't worry. One-wing is not going to kill him. He hasn't killed any angel... Yet... He's just pissed off because Lorex touched his scarf." I realized that this Lilith knew Black better than others.

I looked outside again, and I saw the birds flying away from the chaos. I heard the sounds of trees falling here and there and echoing screams of Lorex. They were quite a distance from the house. I guessed that Lorex was trying to run away from the dangerous predator.

I wondered, was that the reason they all call him a monster.

I don't know the exact time that passed, but soon everything went quiet. The next moment, I saw Black coming back to house holding Lorex in mid-air in his left hand as if he didn't weigh more than a feather. His strength was insane. My focus went towards Lorex, who was unconscious. His clothes were torn, and there were a lot of bruises on his body. His face was as red a monkey's butt. Black must have punched him hard. But Lorex didn't seem in bad shape overall, knowing the brutal beatdown he went through.

"Heal him," Black said to Lilith as he threw Lorex on the same couch as hers and then he sat on the other one.

"You can do it too, you know," Lilith replied as she placed her right hand over Lorex. Lorex's body started to glow faintly.

"You brought him here. The kid is your responsibility." He said and turned towards me and smiled like he used to. It was like some ghost had possessed him when he was beating Lorex. "Hi, angel Eve. Missed me?"

I did miss him, but I was too distressed to reply to him with an affirmation.

"Why did you beat him so much?" I questioned him.

"Let him wake up first," He spoke up with a smile.

Lorex laying there soon started to show movements. His bruises had all healed up. I guess that magic was being cast on him by Lilith. He woke up suddenly and looked around.

As his eyes went towards Black, they widened out of fear. He trembled and moved behind Lilith, holding her shoulders tightly. He looked just like kids do when they meet some scary stranger. I felt so much sympathy for him at that moment.

"So...."

"Let me tell you about his sins. First, he ordered you to open the door as if you were his servant. I heard it from outside. Second, he was wearing my scarf. Last and most important of all, he pointed a weapon at you. He dared to do that to my Eve!" Black then gave that sharp look to Lorex, warning him that if something like that happened again, he wouldn't tolerate. "I'd have left him with just a few hits for wearing my scarf, but scaring and ordering my angel are just unforgivable sins. He should be glad that he is alive."

Even if Black turned into a 'dangerous' guy out there, he did it for me. I can't say if it was right or wrong. I can't judge him. But his intentions were purest. My heart felt sweet. This feeling of being cared for by someone is so nice, isn't it?

Such a person my angel was. Dangerous, yet adorable.
