😘 Chapter Twenty Five 😘
The Breaking Point
Abhimanyu couldn't believe it. The words that Akshu had spoken, the sight of her with another man-it all played on a loop in his mind. She had moved on, married someone else, and left him behind. It was a truth he couldn't accept, no matter how hard he tried.
As the night wore on, Abhi found himself in a dimly lit bar, the alcohol dulling the pain but not the memories. Glass after glass, he tried to drown the reality that Akshu had moved on without him. His heart ached with a mix of sorrow, anger, and disbelief.
As the bar began to empty, Abhi's emotions spiraled out of control. He slammed his glass down, startling the few remaining patrons. The bartender tried to calm him, but Abhi was beyond reasoning. His voice rose as he ranted about the injustice of it all, about how Akshu had broken him, leaving him with nothing.
The scene escalated quickly. The bartender, unable to control him, called the police. Moments later, the flashing lights of a police car illuminated the bar's entrance. Abhi was in no state to resist as the officers took him into custody, his drunken state making him belligerent.
At the police station, Abhi's demeanor shifted from anger to despair. He slumped in the holding cell, the reality of his situation crashing down on him. The officers, recognizing him as a well-known businessman, made the call that would change the course of the night.
Akshu was jolted awake by the ringing of her phone. Seeing the unknown number, she hesitated before answering. The voice on the other end informed her that Abhimanyu Birla had been arrested and was currently in their custody. They needed someone to come and take responsibility for him.
Her heart sank. She knew she couldn't just leave him there, no matter how complicated their history was. Within minutes, she was dressed and on her way to the station, her mind racing with concern.
When she arrived, Akshu found Abhi slumped on a bench in the holding area, looking utterly defeated. His usual sharp, confident demeanor was gone, replaced by a man who was broken and lost. Seeing him like this, her heart ached, despite the walls she had tried to build around it.
"Abhi," she said softly, as she approached him.
He looked up at her, his eyes glassy from the alcohol but filled with unmistakable pain. "Akshu... you're here," he mumbled, as if he couldn't quite believe it.
"Come on," she replied, her voice gentle but firm. "Let's get you out of here."
After signing the necessary papers, Akshu helped Abhi to his feet and guided him to her car. The ride back to her place was quiet, the tension between them heavy and palpable. Akshu's mind raced, torn between the lingering feelings she still harbored for him and the need to protect herself from getting hurt again.
Once they reached her apartment, Akshu led Abhi inside, helping him to the couch. She fetched him a glass of water, kneeling beside him as he drank it slowly.
"Why, Akshu?" Abhi's voice broke the silence, his words thick with emotion and alcohol. "Why did you leave me? How could you move on so easily?"
Akshu felt her heart clench at his words. "It wasn't easy, Abhi. It was the hardest thing I've ever done."
"But you did it," he said, his voice rising slightly as his emotions bubbled to the surface. "You left me and married someone else. You moved on like I didn't matter."
Her eyes filled with tears as she shook her head. "You have no idea how much it hurt. But I had to. I couldn't keep living in the shadow of what we had."
The room fell silent as they both struggled with the weight of their emotions. Abhi reached out, his hand trembling slightly, and took hers in his. "Akshu... I never stopped loving you. I never wanted to lose you."
Before she could respond, Abhi pulled her closer, his lips brushing against hers. It was a kiss filled with desperation, longing, and a deep, unspoken love. For a moment, Akshu hesitated, torn between the love she still felt for him and the pain he had caused her.
But as the kiss deepened, she found herself responding, her emotions overwhelming the defenses she had built. The hurt, the anger, and the longing all mingled together as they clung to each other, trying to find solace in the connection they had once shared.
However, as the intensity of the moment grew, Akshu suddenly pulled away, her breath coming in ragged gasps. "Abhi, we can't... I can't do this."
Abhi's expression was filled with a mix of frustration and sorrow. "Why not, Akshu? We belong together. I know I made mistakes, but I can make things right. I just need you back in my life."
She shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "It's not that simple. So much has happened... I don't know if we can ever go back to what we were."
Abhi's grip on her hand tightened, as if he was afraid she would slip away again. "Please, Akshu. I'll do anything. Just don't leave me again."
Akshu stared into his eyes, seeing the vulnerability and sincerity in them. But she also knew that the wounds they had inflicted on each other were deep, and they couldn't be healed overnight. She gently pulled her hand away, her voice barely above a whisper. "Abhi, I need time. We both do."
The words hung in the air between them, heavy with the uncertainty of what lay ahead. Akshu got up, leaving Abhi on the couch as she retreated to her room. As she closed the door behind her, she leaned against it, trying to steady her racing heart.
Abhi remained on the couch, staring at the space where she had been. His heart ached with the realization that while he had been willing to risk everything to get her back, it might not be enough. But as he sat there, one thing became clear: he wasn't going to give up on Akshu, no matter how long it took.
