🌟 Chapter Twenty 🌟

The Weight of Regret

Three long years had passed since Akshu had vanished from Abhi's life, leaving behind a void that nothing could fill. Despite all his efforts, all his desperate searches, and the countless sleepless nights spent hoping for a miracle, Abhi had been unable to find her. The guilt and heartbreak had taken a heavy toll on him, transforming the once powerful and confident businessman into a shadow of his former self.

The vibrant, driven man who had once commanded boardrooms and navigated complex deals was now a weary, broken soul. His life, once full of ambition and purpose, had become bleak and empty, defined only by his role as a father to Naina. She was the only light in his life, the only reason he continued to push through each day. Abhi poured all his love and energy into raising her, determined to be the best father he could be, even if he could no longer be the man he once was.

Naina, now a bright and inquisitive 8-year-old, was the center of Abhi's world. He devoted himself entirely to her, attending to her every need, and making sure she never felt the absence of her mother too deeply. But as much as he tried to fill that void, he knew that Naina still missed Akshu. She often asked about her, her innocent questions breaking Abhi’s heart each time. He would tell her stories about Akshu, trying to keep her memory alive, even as the pain of losing her remained as sharp as ever.

Sona, on the other hand, had been relentless in her attempts to win Abhi’s affection. She had imagined that with Akshu gone, she would finally have her chance to be with him. But nothing could have been further from the truth. Abhi's feelings for Sona had turned into a deep, unyielding hatred after what she had done. He couldn’t forgive her for the role she played in destroying his life and driving Akshu away.

No matter how hard Sona tried to get close to him, Abhi kept her at a distance. He refused to marry her, refused to even acknowledge her attempts to connect. To him, Sona was a constant reminder of the betrayal and the pain that had torn his life apart. His heart was closed off, and there was no place for her in it.

Sona, despite her best efforts, found herself constantly rebuffed and rejected. She tried to appeal to Abhi in every way she could—through kindness, through seduction, through guilt—but nothing worked. Abhi’s coldness toward her was absolute, and she was forced to live with the reality that she would never have him, no matter what she did.

As the years passed, Abhi's life settled into a routine of caring for Naina and managing the bare minimum at work. The spark that had once driven him was gone, replaced by a deep-seated melancholy that he couldn’t shake. His world had narrowed to the confines of his home and the few responsibilities he couldn’t avoid. He lived each day in quiet resignation, haunted by the memories of what could have been and the knowledge that he would never be whole again.

Despite everything, Abhi held onto a sliver of hope that one day, somehow, Akshu would return to him. He knew it was unlikely, that she had probably moved on and built a new life for herself far away from the pain he had caused. But that hope, however faint, was the only thing that kept him going, the only thing that kept the darkness from swallowing him completely.

And so, Abhi continued to live, day by day, caring for Naina, rejecting Sona, and holding on to the memories of a love that had once been the center of his world. He was a man broken by his past, yet still clinging to the hope of redemption, even as the years slipped by, and the chances of finding Akshu grew ever slimmer.
