Edith Finch had nothing incredibly remarkable about her. She was twenty-four, worked as a camp counselor every summer since she was sixteen, had a shitty apartment and an even shittier car. Edith didn't have a particularly exciting life, until one day when she was heading home on the last day of summer camp.

Edith remembered swerving to avoid hitting someone who appeared in the road, and then the next thing she knows, she's waking up to a man in strange clothes standing over her. She learns his name is Gandalf, and that she certainly isn't in Washington anymore. The place is called Middle-Earth, and more specifically, Gandalf has found her on the outskirts of the Shire, the home of hobbits. Everything begins to sounds familiar to her, and Edith recognizes everything from books. There was just one problem - Edith herself had never read the books, and therefore had no idea what was coming.

Convinced to join a quest in search of answers, Edith isn't sure what to think when she signs her life away on a contract. The Company of Thorin Oakenshield is more than hesitant to bring her, and Thorin himself would rather leave her behind, but no one has any choice in the matter. Because once the Valar has made a decision, it's awfully hard to stray from the path they've destined for you.
