Predatory
The man offers me candy when I tell him I'm lost. I slip my tiny hand in his and nod when he asks me if I want to see his puppies. Up close he smells of damp; like old, wet tennis socks that need to be tossed away.
Twilight has come and gone. Shadows walk behind us, skulking in a predatory fashion as we walk down the park's path. He smiles at me and I can see he's missing most of his teeth.
But, he'll do.
Perhaps lying is a sin, however, I'm not very good at hunting yet. My family hasn't eaten for days. They wait for us behind the bushes. I look up at him and return his smile.
I'm so hungry.
