Chapter 6
Sybil had trained day and night with Loki to hone her powers, at first she had been reluctant to cooperate, and who wouldn't have been? She had been kidnapped by some jealous, power hungry; psycho called Loki and commanded to help him fight. Just earlier she had found the pile of mutated bodies of the other test subjects he'd found that had failed. They had been in various forms of not only decay, but transformation as well. Out of the large pile she could remember at least one teen male who looked completely blue, a small girl covered in frost, another young man in his twenties with bloody red eyes, and another teen, this one a female she thought, who was so rotted the body just looked like a rotten smoothie dumped on the ground.
Of course now, on day eight of her kidnapping, she was finally accepting all her powers. Sybil had to admit, magic and ice were a nice combination... and the power... she loved how much power she now held. Loki, of course, still held the most power and she knew better than to disobey his orders. As he stood looking out into a clearing, the same clearing they had trained in until she had all but perfected her new gifts, she walked quietly up behind him to see what it was that had captured his attention. Before she could make it half way to him though, he turned around with a deadly glare and gritted teeth.
"Fetch my helmet and scepter. They are coming." He barked the command.
Sybil glared back. "Fetch? What am I, a dog?"
"Bring, me my helmet and scepter." He corrected grudgingly, making sure to emphasize the 'bring' he had replaced 'fetch with. After all, if the week had taught him anything it was teenage mortals would get things done faster if you gave them a bit of power, not too much of course.
Sybil ran off into the trees and teleported a second later before reappearing in the small tree house structure Loki had taught he to make. Just inside the door were the objects he had requested and she grabbed them before teleporting back to him and handing them to him without looking into his eyes, a way to show she wasn't going to challenge his power again.
"Who is coming?" She asked and quickly clarified. "You said someone was."
Loki placed the golden horned helmet on his head and took his place back at the edge of the trees. "S.H.I.E.L.D."
"You mean those people who fought against you in New York?" She asked as she remembered watching the destruction on TV.
Loki set her a murderous look, hating that she reminded him of the day he was defeated. "Yes... The Avengers, to be more specific."
Sybil's curiosity grew as she saw the blank sky. "How can you tell?"
"If you would shut up and listen..." He hissed. "You'll hear the jet, nearly silent, but just audible."
Sybil wasn't sure if Loki had just said that to make her stay quiet or because it was actually true but she went silent anyway and listened for the sound of a jet. Minutes passed and she still couldn't hear anything and the sky above was still empty unless you could count the occasional bright colored birds or clouds a jet, which wouldn't be true in any argument. She was about to turn around and leave, to just go back to the tree house and continue practicing her magic, the goal was to be able to get a longer range to teleport and create illusions to, but Loki held up a hand to stop her.
"Get your armor and scythe... they're landing." He nodded slightly towards a strange ripple in the air and some trees flattening. "They'll be here any minute."
Sybil wasn't sure if she was happy about the fact that she could be saved or not, she had learned a lot under Loki, even if it had been unwanted at first. What if S.H.I.E.L.D. tried taking her powers? "What's the plan?"
"Don't fight until I give the signal." He replied, still watching the tree line across the clearing intently. "Once I do... don't show them any mercy. They certainly wouldn't show you any. Especially now that you have abilities that aren't human... Tell me, do you know what they do to aliens?"
Sybil shook her head a bit nervously before lightly biting the inside of her lip in slight anticipation and worry. "What?"
"They study them. In a lab, once they have you in there... well you may never get out alive." He smirked at the end.
She scowled back, he was just using a fear tactic and she was going to call him on it. "Yeah right, why didn't they do that to you? You aren't human right? They wouldn't dare hurt me, let along kill me just for science!"
"Oh, but doesn't your kind do that to animals all the time to test things in their labs? S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't care if they took it a step farther to people, not when they no longer have the qualities of full, normal, human biology. Of course if they were the ones who gave you the alien sample DNA or powers then you would be just fine... as it wasn't... well, don't let them catch you." He chuckled darkly.
Sybil was startled by what he had told her but still not completely sure what Loki had told her was the truth. He had messed with her mind before just to win in a fight, of which afterwards he would scold her and tell her every single way she had messed up. She gritted her teeth and pictured her black and green armor appear on her in a dark, nearly black, purple glow along with a double sided scythe in her right hand. Just because he could be exaggerating didn't mean she wasn't just going to sit back and allow them to capture her, to take her in and perhaps torture her with tests that would be the end of her.
"Besides me standing back here like a coward, what's the plan?" She asked again as she climbed a tree to get a height advantage so she could see the Avengers coming. "I mean, not that I don't enjoy waiting for a signal and all... but after that."
"Get yourself captured." Loki stated the plan so simply she almost thought she imagined it.
"W-what?" She stuttered indignantly. "Get captured? Are you joking? You are aren't you?"
Loki gave a sigh and shook his head while one hand was on the side like he had a headache. "No, I'm not. Get captured, earn their trust, and when I give another signal, we finish it."
"But earlier you said-"
He cut her off with an irritated voice. "They will not just experiment on you instantly, not with Valda there."
"Valda's with them?" Sybil felt relief and excitement go through her. Her friend was safe; she was going to see her again. "How do you know?"
"Telepathy." He froze and looked across the clearing. "Shh... they're almost there, we don't want the main weapon to be revealed too soon now do we? No, that would ruin the moment."
Sybil went silent and slid out of the tree and back onto the ground before hiding in the shadows, not hard when the entire forest floor was just one large shadow. From where she was she could see seven figures, six she could recognize from TV, and the seventh, well she couldn't forget what Valda looked like with her wild, untamable mane of blonde hair. She really hoped she wouldn't have to fight her friend. It was fun when it wasn't real, when they were back in the park, fighting but not doing actually harm... usually... but this would be real. Sybil wasn't sure if she could actually try hurting her best friend... another part of her said that she could find others yet she still remained unsure. Sybil did as she was told however and stayed put while Loki went out to 'greet' their visitors, all she could do now was wait and see how the fight played out.
