Engaged

"There's always someone out there for you"

"C'mon Aaron, you've got this"

I mumbled to myself, nervously.

I've been mumbling to myself that I could do this and it would be a piece of cake once you brought up the conversation but every damn time I try talking to her about on my mind, I keep pushing myself away from her.

I look back up at my girlfriend who's watching the sunset turn into darkness.

She turns around, staring up at my eyes and asked,

"Do they look good?"

I didn't know what to say in that moment.

I wanted to say they looked beautiful and she didn't need to worry what they looked like but I couldn't.

I stood there like an idiot, worrying over the fact she'll say no to me because I'm a monster and that's all society will label me as.

"Aaron?"

I snapped out back into reality, looking down at my girlfriend.

I froze again, gathering up the courage to say what I've wanted to say for the past year.

"I wanted to talk to you about the thing that I've been thinking about for awhile now and I wasn't really sure when to do but I think now is a good time"

I say quickly, knowing I can't go turn back now.

"Is something wrong?"

I could feel my heart speeding up as the moment had finally came down to this as an imaginary clock ticked down the second.

"Aph, even if you had them or not, you'd always be beautiful to me"

I said, referring to her developing ears and tail.

"We've been together for a long time, not just as lovers but as friends."

"I can honestly say that everyday that I got a chance to wake up next to you was the best day of my life. I lost that this year and I don't want to lose that again"

"Being with you has meant the world to me and and I want that world to be a part of my life, forever"

She gasped while placing her hands onto of her mouth as I got down on one knee.

"Aph, will you marry me?"

I pull out the box with the ring in the box and open it as her eyes fill up with tears.

"Yes, yes, yes, yes!"

I opened my arms as she ran towards me with tears slipping down her cheeks.

I picked her up and brought her lips close to mine, pulling her into a passionate kiss.

She's finally all mine.

I place her down on the ground, letting our lips pull away from each other's.

I took out the ring from the box, slipping the ring onto her left hand.

She brings the ring close to her face, admiring the ring with small sparkles in her eyes.

I snapped back into reality as I heard a small sob come out of Aphmau.

Are these tears of happiness or sadness?

I place my hand on her cheeks, pulling her head up as she looks up at me.

I wipe away her tears, kissing both her cheek that are stained with tears slipping down her eyes.

She looks up at me.

"Aaron, why would you propose to me?"

"Huh?"

"Why would you propose to me when you can find someone better looking than me"

"Aph, we've talked about this, remember?"

She nods her head.

"The reason I chose you was because all I ever saw in the mirror was a monster. A monster that society was pointing at and never stopped watching me. It was the one thing I could let go of because everyone was afraid of me but it changed one day when I started developing feeling for you. It wasn't like any other feeling I've had but you were different"

"You were my light and I waited for you but I couldn't wait any longer as other guys started eyeing you. I guess you could I was jealous and I was and that's why I asked you to be mine. I wanted other guys to know you were mine and nobody could mess with you"

She wipes away more of her tears and wraps her arms around me, pulling me into a hug.

"Thank you, Aaron"

"You're welcome, babe."

"Now c'mon, we should probably get inside our tent"

I pick her up as she wraps her legs around my waist and I walk towards our tent and I placed her down, carefully into her sleeping bag.

I took off my vest and placed in my lap, wrapping my arms around her waist.

"Hey Aaron, can I ask you something?"

"Sure, babe"

"How long were planning to propose to me?"

I think for a moment, going back probably a year ago that I was planning to propose to her.

"For a long time actually. I was planning to propose to you last summer but things happened but here was are and I still got to propose to you"

I smile, sweetly at her as she giggles.

"Y'know I'm not anything special, right?"

"In my dictionary, you are~"

I smirk at her as she blushes a bright red at my comment.

She's so damn adorable.

"Okay, my real question is how did you get your dad to even agree to your proposal to me?"

"Oh, that wasn't easy"

"Dad, can I talk to you for a second?"

He looked confused but he requested that I come in and talk to him about it.

"So, why did you want to talk to me?"

"I wanted to talk to you about something that's been on my mind for awhile now and I know I'm ready for what might happen next"

"Go on"

"Dad, I wanna propose to my girlfriend"

His eye widen as he stood up from his chair and left the room, leaving me in silence.

From across the hall, I could hear him talking to my mother about what I suggested.

"Why should we let our son propose to some girl?"

"Derek, you know Aaron isn't a child anymore. He can make his own decision like an adult without the consent of his parents"

I could hear them talking and yelling over my decision. In the end, my mother had enough but she did what was right.

"Derek, that's enough!"

"You can't treat your son like this, anymore. He is not a child and he would ever be one again. You have to accept the fact that we can't have our son alone and depressed all the time"

"I know"

"Then let our son propose to his girlfriend"

"Fine"

I got up in excitement, knowing this would change my life, forever.

"In the end, it was all worth it"

I smile bringing her into a short but passionate kiss. I pull away from the kiss, letting my ears slowly close.

I hear Aphmau yawned and I place her, carefully on her sleeping bag.

I let my arms wrap around her waist and pull her close into my embrace.

"I love you, Aphmau"

"I love you too, Aaron"
