"Shh, everything will be okay"
I walk over to my daughter's bed who is only 6 years old and sat down by her.
A few moments later, my son, who is also 6 years old joins us, walking carefully over to his sister's bed.
I carefully wrap my arms around them, holding them close to me as I quietly sing a small tone to make them fall asleep.
"Mommy?" My son quietly speaks out.
"Yes?"
"Can't we just ask for the rain to leave us alone? It's scary and we don't like it"
"Yeah, we don't like it" My daughter chimes in.
"Maybe you can. If you just simply ignore it, the rain and it's friends will go away and come again another day"
They look at each other, slightly disagreeing with my comment.
"How can we ignore it?"
"Well, if you just close your eyes, maybe the rain will go away and come again another day"
They look at each other again, nodding their heads and closing their eyes.
I sing them a small tone as their eyes get heavier and they both eventually fall asleep.
"Now, look at that" I smile at my babies who are sleeping in the same bed.
"Goodnight Alina" I whisper while placing a small kiss on her forehead.
"Goodnight Alexander" I whisper too, while also placing a small kiss on his forehead.
I walk out and back into my bedroom while the rain pours down the window and into the streets below. I slip back into bed and let my eyes drown me out.
•
I slightly groan as I could feel someone poking at my face.
Opening my eyes, I see my two kids poking at me face, constantly.
"Okay, okay guys. I'm awake" I yawned.
They giggle and run out of the bedroom and downstairs where the sound of their small feet could be hear from upstairs.
I, who didn't want to get out of bed, has too now. I groan and slip out of bed, carefully while I could feel the warmth leaving my body as the cold enters, making me shiver.
I walk out of bed while rubbing eyes and carefully going down the stairs.
The smell of pancakes hits my nose and I could feel a small smile appear on my face.
I see my two kids eating breakfast while their father is cooking.
I walk to their father or in my terms, my husband and hug him behind.
"Morning babe"
"Morning" I groan.
The kids finishing eating and the rain pours onto the window like last night.
Aaron gives my breakfast and I thank him. I started eating until the kids start arguing with each other.
"No, it's my toy!"
"No, it's mine, give it back!"
I get out of my seat and walk over to them, asking what's wrong.
"Alex won't give me back my toy!"
"Yeah, but she ate all the candy I got from Halloween!"
"Alright you two, break it up" I say while clapping my hands.
"Alexander"
"Give back your sister her toy, please"
"But-!"
"Fine"
He gives back her toy and she squeals as her toy is given back.
I walk back over to seat and quickly eat my breakfast before they start arguing again.
I set my plate in the sink and watch the kids play with each other and run around in circle pretending to be someone.
I sit down on the couch and take in this rainy morning.
"Mommy?"
I look at my feet to see my son again, asking me a question.
"Yes?"
"Can we play in the rain?"
His little eyes shine with small happiness as he wants to play outside now.
The one thing I can't resist from these two.
"Of course, just make sure you put on everything you need for the rain"
"Okay, c'mon Alina!"
They both run upstairs and I sit up waiting for them to come down the stairs.
They come down from their bedroom wrapping in rain coats, hats and boots, waiting for the moment they can run outside.
I walk to the door and carefully open it as they run out, immediately running to the puddles the rain has made.
I just watch them as they skip and run around the front yard.
Aaron comes from behind me, wrapping his arms around me, pulling me close to him.
"Hey babe~?"
"Mhm?"
"I love you"
"I love you too"
We smile as we watch our kids playing in the rain. They come back running inside while trying to catch their breath.
"Alright you two, you might want to change in case something happened while you were out there"
They nod and run upstairs, getting out of their rain coats, hats and boots.
"Hey, I've noticed something from our kids"
"Which would be?"
"Our kids are pretty adorable, just like their mother"
I could feel my cheeks heating up as I'm being brushed with blush on my cheeks.
I look away from him, blushing as you could probably see the blush on my cheeks.
He chuckles as I slightly die in embarrassment of his comment.
"I mean it's true. You're adorableness just makes me smile in a way I can't explain my smile"
I smile as I could feel my heart speeds up from his words.
This is why I married him.
Not for money, but the guy I knew for a long time who asked me to be his.
I won't forget that day, neither less the day my babies were born and brought into this world, safe and sound.
The kids come back from upstairs, ready to begin the rest of their day inside.
They settle back into their previous spot before they left.
I watch them again, carefully to make sure they don't start arguing again.
I sit in the couch and the world around me becomes silence as the days pass and the kids will soon grow.
I know that as I become old and fragile, I hope my kids and my husband will take good care of me, just like how I did for them.
