Chapter 21 - A Meeting of Zombies

Jeff threw his head over the edge of the sink, coughing with a rough voice. Once, twice, then finally one last time before he was coughing up the black liquid again.

This wasn't the first time. Nor was it the first time he was with Ben. Ever since he had woken up as a zombie, he coughs up this stuff every few days. It's been weird, but he never tried to think about it.

"O-Oh no, I had no idea you w-were in here!" Alphys said, backing away from the door she had opened.

"It'ssss... fineeeeeeh." Jeff grumbled, wiping his mouth.

The scientist peaked over his shoulder. "W-What's that?"

"Nothinggggffff!"

Jeff quickly started up the water, letting it wash out from view. From what memories he did gather, he could recall that the liquid had started to appear after he had started his murder sprees. So he'd rather not share with her.

He regretted it. Each passing moment, each new memory, it only brought more regret to make his sins crawl down his back. Jane was right, he was a murderous monster before he had turned. And he hated it.

Why wouldn't he? He had ruined her life, and countless others. Being infected was probably the best thing that ever happened to him, it let him take a step back and view the world from a new perspective. Jeff found himself now, and he liked his life now. He'd rather not bring up any of his murderous habits from before, black stuff included.

"O-Okay then," Alphys stuttered as Jeff walked out past her.

The monsters had been appearing more and more in his life, and Jeff didn't really have any opinion on that. He never met them before, and they were alright. Nothing special about them. They were Sans' old friends, so he was getting their memories back of them, while making new memories with them.

"Hi."

Jeff almost jumped out of his skin from the sudden voice, pressing a hand against his chest as he turned. Frisk, or whoever they were, leaned against the wall, their arms crossed as they watched him.

"What areeeee yougggghhhh doing thereeee?" Jeff asked.

"Just... watching," Frisk said.

The door had been closed before Alphys barged in, so the kid couldn't have seen whatever he coughed up. Good.

"Weirdddd," Jeff grumbled.

He didn't trust Frisk, like Jane and Sans had said, but he wasn't sure what to do about it. Toriel was head over heels for the kid, and all of the other monsters liked them, so what could they do about it? The zombie group didn't really have much of a standing against them. Jeff barely knew them, Ben hasn't really made friends with any of them yet, and they were all pretty terrified of Jane. The only one who really had a standing was Sans, and he couldn't even testify to why they didn't trust Frisk.

Which was pretty fun, yay them.

Frisk pulled out their phone and lightly clicked away. "You know, Jane is pretty strong." Their red eyes looked up. "And if something were to happen with Sans, well... her strength would be useless."

"What areee you talking abouttttt?" Jeff asked.

"Nothing that concerns you," Frisk said.

Jeff didn't believe them. However, he couldn't say anything, instead shuffling past them. Leave them alone, even though he knew something was up.

"Byeeee." Jeff grumbled.

"Oh, actually, I forgot to tell you. Sans asked you to meet him up at the town square." Frisk brushed brown hair out of their face. "He wanted to talk to you in private."

Jeff gurgled out confused, he didn't get why Sans would tell Frisk of all people to meet him. Why not just text him? Or tell literally anyone else to tell Jeff to meet him.

"Sans didn't tell me much, he said something about wanting to talk about Jane then ran off," Frisk said.

That... actually was pretty fair. With her increase in body functions from the hate juice, she could hear like no one's business, so it made sense that Sans would want to talk about Jane out of their little base. Probably about a present or some date idea.

"Fineeee."

Jeff, turning, almost once again jumped. Why did weird stuff keep happening to him? He didn't like it.

There, standing in the hallway, was none other than Frisk. The real Frisk. Their body was see through, like a ghost, but they weren't appearing just inside the void anymore. They were in his day to day life now? Come on.

Jeff walked out of the room, the ghost version of Frisk following. Both the alive human and the ghost made eye contact behind Jeff's back, the child giving a small, mocking wave as the real Frisk passed by.

As soon as they were outside of the building, Jeff turned towards Frisk, staring down at the kid. "(What do you want?)" He demanded.

"You're determination is getting stronger, it gave me a physical form," Frisk said, "You're recovering it faster."

"(And you're being weird, and creepy,)" Jeff said, "(I don't understand anything that's going on. Who is that that looks like you?)"

"Their name is Chara, they were the first human to fall Underground," Frisk explained, floating behind him. "I don't know everything they're planning, but it's not good. I think they want to kill everyone."

"(I doubt it's that.)"

"How come?"

"(Only to kill everyone? There's always something more to that. If they want to kill everyone, they probably want power, and want revenge.)"

"How do you know that?"

Jeff didn't stop walking, but he stopped talking.

"Okay, okay, I get it, you don't want to share anything, it's fine," Frisk said, floating up next to him. "Sans was the same way before. I just- I'm trying to help you the best I can!"

"(By giving ominous messages?)" Jeff asked.

Frisk narrowed their yellow eyes at him. "If I knew everything that Chara was planning, I would be telling you."

"(Fair enough I guess.)"

"But you shouldn't trust them, this might be a trap," Frisk said.

"(I know, I'm not stupid. If I see someone bad I'll just text Jane. I don't believe Sans is out here, but it's best... to...)"

His statement fell flat when he saw, low and behold, Sans was there. Zombie skeleton and all, leaning against a lamp post, looking around. He seemed to sigh with relief when he saw Jeff, walking up to him.

"(Hey, what's up?)" Sans asked.

"(Nothing,)" Jeff said.

"(Well, why'd you wanna meet here then? I get I'm Sans-ational, but give me a warning next time bud.)"

Jeff stopped breathing. "(What do you mean? You asked me to meet here.)"

"(No, you did. Frisk told me that you wanted to talk about Jane.)"

"(But Frisk told me-)"

Neither had much longer to reply as a gun, out of nowhere, suddenly stuck itself against Jeff's head.

Fun.
