3. Estel means hope
Aragorn didn't know how long he had been running when an Orc's arrow hit him. The arrow was aimed at his neck, but luckily it stuck his arm instead. He groaned in pain, but knew he couldn't stop. Legolas needed him, and he couldn't even use his sword. He needed a hiding spot.
Another arrow was released, and this time it stuck hit foot, causing him to tumble to the ground. Strong arms grabbed his arms, lifting him off the ground. He screamed when his disoriented shoulder was moving.
"Saruman will choose what we'll do with him." He largest Orc snarled, making spit fly from his mouth.
"Yeah..lets take him to Isengard..."
"I wouldn't think so." A far to familiar voice said, but Aragorn couldn't see his face, because it came from behind him.
"Kill him!" The Orc commanded and all of the orc's except the two who held him ran to kill the intruder.
He heard a sword swinging, and he heard bodies hit the ground. With every thud, he hoped it wasn't his savour.
The two orc's who was holding him suddenly dropped him, making him scream in pain and curl into a ball, protecting himself as he couldn't defend himself.
They ran to attack the person behind him, and he heard another two body's fall to the ground.
He lay and breathed steadily in and out, waiting for any sign that his saviour was alive.
Suddenly he felt two strong arms sit him up against someone's chest, and he felt a water skin being pressed against his lips.
"Drink." A gentle voice said, and he did. He took a few mouthfuls before pushing it away.
"Who are you?" He asked, and the person behind him chuckled.
"What? You don't know the Steward of Gondor?"
Aragorn felt a smile grow on his lips as he turn around to face Boromir.
"Boromir." He laughed and hugged his friend. Boromir smiled behind the ranger's back and patted it gently a few times.
Then Aragorn remembered he reason he had ran, and turned terrified eyes to Boromir.
"We need to help Legolas, he is dying!"
Boromir nodded and ran after Aragorn, when the ranger suddenly fell. Boromir grimaced as he saw the arrow in the ranger's foot, and the one in his arm. He wonder how he hasn't seen them before?
"We need to take those out. They could have poison."
"No time. Legolas needs me."
"He needs you alive." Boromir said soothingly as he knelt down, a hand on Aragorn's other shoulder.
The ranger bit his lip. He wanted to get to Legolas as fast as possible, but as Boromir say, he needed him alive.
Boromir grabbed the arrow in his arm, and without asking he pulled it straight out. Aragorn bit back a scream, and bit his lip instead. He felt Boromir press something against the wound, and saw it was his cloak. He bound it tightly, and without asking he also set the disoriented shoulder back, but then Aragorn couldn't keep his scream in. He decided to not tell Boromir about his broken ribs or his concussion. They had more important things to worry about.
"So, what does the Steward of Gondor doing here, without Gimli and the hobbits?" He panted heavily, but needed to talk to the steward.
Boromir signed and grabbed the other arrow, pulling it straight out. He took the boot off and bound the wound up with the last piece of his cloak.
"They got held up."
As Aragorn rose to run again, Boromir followed him. They ran in silence for about 10 minutes until they reached Legolas unmoving form beside the fallen tree.
Aragorn heavily fell to his knees beside the elf, and Boromir beside him. The rain had stopped, but they were still wet and dirty. Legolas still lay in mud, and Aragorn needed to clean those wounds before they got infected.
"Can I have a little water Boromir?" The ranger asked and looked at the man, before undoing the cloak around Legolas head.
"Yes of course." Said Boromir and gave him the water skin.
"Hannon le..I mean..thank you." Said Aragorn as he realised he spoke in elvish, a language Boromir didn't understood.
He wetted the cloak and started to clean the wound on the elf's forehead. Legolas stirred a little before opening his eyes. He smiled tiredly when he saw Aragorn.
"I knew you would come back... Foolish human.." He whispered before coughing, spitting out blood. The sound made Aragorn flinch, and Boromir frowned worriedly. Coughing blood was never a good sign.
Aragorn smiled soothingly when the elf looked at him again and gently cleaned the elf's face off the mud and blood. Then he moved to clean the whip wound on Legolas side. The chain marks was visible though the ripped clothes, so Aragorn didn't needed to undress him.
Boromir sat quietly and watched the scene in front of him. He didn't wanted to interrupt it, so he smiled sadly at the couple instead.
"Boromir is here, Legolas. He helped me come back. Otherwise, I would probably be a prisoner in Isengard by now..."
Legolas eyes widened in fear. Had his love been hurt when he tried to help him? "They hurt you?"
Aragorn smiled slightly at the elf's concern, but he didn't wanted him to worry more so he shook his head, making Boromir raise a eyebrow.
"I'm alright."
Legolas looked at Aragorn, straight in the eyes. Those blue eyes held so much sadness, worry, and pain. Everything the ranger didn't wanted to see in those beautiful eyes. But he did saw one more thing.
Love. So much love.
Legolas loved him so much, and was scared when he thought they had hurt his ranger. That's why Aragorn chose not to tell him. He did not need more things to worry about.
"What are we going to do than?" Boromir asked once the elf had fallen back to sleep, with help from some herbs Aragorn had found in the forest.
The men sat leaned against the same tree, resting for a moment and deciding what to do. Cold breezes stroked their hair, but at least it wasn't raining anymore. The cold winds made Aragorn shudder, as his clothes hasn't really dried.
"We need to reach Lothlorien. Legolas needs the healing!"
"You think this was it? No more orc's from now on, just free passage?" Said Boromir sarcastically and turned to face the ranger.
Aragorn sighed, and massaged his eyebrows with two fingers, before looking up at Boromir.
"It was nothing this time Aragorn." Said Boromir when Aragorn opened his mouth to protest.
"As he realise his army failed he will send another one. A stronger one. He has a lot of them, and he won't let us reach Lothlorien. The same army will attack the hobbits and Gimli as well. They won't stand a chance."
"We must try." Aragorn said stubbornly. "We can't give up now. We are too close to give up."
Boromir sighed and leaned back against the tree. "I really care about Legolas, but not so much I would risk our lifes to save him. We need to help the ring bearer. He is the most important. We should wait here for the rest of the fellowship."
"Then it could be to late!"
"Is a risk we must take Aragorn!" Said Boromir louder than he meant to.
W
hen he realised then how much the words had hurt the ranger, he tried again, this time in a softer voice.
"Aragorn...we must let Legolas..."
"No." The ranger interrupted, staring into those brown eyes, those he trusted. Or, used to trust.
"It's a price we must pay." Said Boromir sadly. "Frodo must reach Mordor."
"I'm not gonna leave him, I'm not gonna let him die, I promised!"
He raised his voice with each word, in the end almost screaming desperately.
Boromir stared at the ranger. How could he care about an elf so much? A single elf?
"We need to focus on the ring bearer. Come back with me, and help the hobbits."
"No. Boromir, you are a great warrior. Go help the hobbits yourself. I will bring Legolas to Lothlorien. I will catch up with you once he is safe!"
"It will be a bigger army this time Aragorn! You can not carry Legolas and fight orcs at the same time!"
"I have to try! I promised him!"
"Aragorn, you will both die! We should wait for the fellowship. Then we could keep him alive long enough for someone to bring the elves here."
"There is still hope for him this way Boromir."
Aragorn went to pick the elf up gently, and began his run to Lothlorien, leaving Boromir behind, who sighed sadly.
