A cloudy gray-white she-wolf glanced over her shoulder, watching as her two daughters emerged over the hill behind her.

Bringing up the rear, was her mate. A tall strong, dark brown wolf with blue eyes.

The she-wolf stared at her daughters. One was a small lithe light brown wolf with green eyes. The other a creamy white and brown with green eyes identical to her mother.

The she-wolf switched her gaze to the direction they were traveling. The sun was slowly going down over the hills in the distance.

Her mate came to stand beside her, following her gaze. "How much farther?"

The she-wolf twitched an ear. "I'm not sure. But we're going the right way."

Her mate nodded, starting down the steep hill. The she-wolf gathered her daughters with a sweep of her tail, guiding them down the hill.

The she-wolf lifted her nose to the air.

"What is it, Mother?" The light brown daughter asked.

"Are we almost there?" The other daughter complained, tail dragging.

The she-wolf grinned and wrapped her tail around her daughters. "Of course, my darlings."

"We've been traveling for ages." They protested in unison.

"Don't worry. Pretty soon you'll have a nice warm den to sleep in and a comfortably full belly." She pulled them closer and gave each of them a gentle lick on the forehead. "I promise."
