Chapter 6
Aesthetic of Misty..... enjoy!! :D
The quote is in here somewhere, can you find it?
"You!" Misty growled.
Every ounce of hatred poured out in that single word. She could feel Rascal staring at her in alarm. The Pack all faced her, shock clear in their gazes.
Misty's glare didn't waver as she stared daggers at a cloudy gray-white she-wolf.
The she-wolf was older. Her eyes gleaming bright green.
Misty was raging so hard she couldn't speak. Tears in her eyes, head low, she bolted toward her den, collapsing on the soft pelt and letting out choked sobs.
Rascal came in a heartbeat later. He sat down beside his mate and pressed his cheek to hers in comfort.
"Talk to me." He whispered.
Misty's ears flattened. She glared at Rascal. "It doesn't matter!" She snapped.
Rascal flinched at her tone. Misty realized he was just trying to help. She took a calming breath and shook her head apologetically.
"I'm sorry, Rascal. I-it's just...." She trailed off. Tears were burning her eyes.
"It's just...?" Rascal asked calmly.
Misty blurted it out."My mother has returned!"
Rascal's eyes widened. "T-that was her?" His voice was shaking.
She nodded. "I don't know why she came back," Misty snarled. "It's not like she ever cared before."
Rascal was silent for a moment. "What about your father?"
Misty shook her head. "I didn't see him. But there were some other wolves with her."
She couldn't believe what was happening. Anxiety weighed down on her chest. A sick feeling dropped in the pit of her stomach. Every negative emotion was pushing her down. Thoughts spun in her mind. Her heart accelerated three times the normal beat. She shook her head, on the verge of hyperventilating and passing out.
Rascal nudged her softly. "Let's go out. I know you're upset, but it's best to get the greeting over with."
As much as she hated it, she knew Rascal was right.
Misty snorted. "I wouldn't exactly say she's welcome." She reluctantly got to her paws and slowly walked after Rascal.
He pressed his pelt to hers, letting her know he'd be there for her. Misty felt her heart thump wildly. She really wasn't looking forward to this.
The Pack parted, and Misty's mother padded through. Her head was high. She looked like the older version of Misty, but with a darker pelt.
Her mother smiled. "Misty. My precious pup." She whispered in awe.
"Heather." Misty greeted her mother sourly.
Heather was scanning Misty from head to tail. Her eyes were shining. "You're grown up."
"Of course I am. You haven't seen me in years," Bravely, she added. "I've grown up fine, thanks to Aurora."
Without you! She spat to herself.
Heather ignored Misty's tone. She gestured behind her, and three wolves came to her side. "I'd like you to meet a few wolves."
She flicked her tail to the huge, dark brown male with blue eyes. "This is my mate, Magnus." She gestured to a small lithe, light brown she-wolf with green eyes. "This is Violet." And she beckoned for a cream and brown she-wolf to come forward. "This is Velvet. Violet and Velvet are your half-sisters."
Misty's eyes snapped open when she heard this news. She couldn't help a tingle of curiosity.
"What happened to my father?" She muttered.
Heather's eyes grew sorrow. "When we left to find a better home for us all..."
Excuse me? You left me!
"Your father and I traveled for almost two years. He had become weak and ill, and could no longer go on. He died. I continued on by myself. I found a group of stray wolves and found Magnus. We quickly fell in love and had two precious daughters. Violet and Velvet."
Misty eyed her sister's suspiciously.
Precious? Yeah right!
"After a few years, we decided to return to my home Pack. We found a shorter route to travel and made it here in almost a year," Heather finished, looking happy. "And I'm glad I came back."
"And what about Aurora?" Misty demanded. "She raised me. Aren't you curious about what happened to her?"
Heather's eyes darkened. "Tyrant told me. It's very sad. Aurora was a kind she-wolf."
She's also your sister-in-law! You were closer than sisters!
Heather had noticed Rascal for the first time. "Who's this?"
Misty snuggled up closer to Rascal. "He's my mate, Rascal."
Heather looked alarmed. Her eyes flew back and forth between Rascal and Misty. "Oh no! You can't! We've found the perfect mate for you, Misty! We came back to fetch you! He's really perfect: I think you'd like him!"
Misty snorted. "No thanks. I'm happy with Rascal."
Heather's eyes flashed. "You wanna be with him?" She demanded. "He's not that special! Look at him! He's nothing!"
"You don't know that!" Misty snarled. "You haven't been by my side all these years! And since when do you care? I love Rascal very much! He's always been there for me! Unlike you!"
The Pack all took a few paces back. They shuffled their paws and awkwardly glanced at one another.
Magnus stepped forward, his icy eyes raking Misty.
"Respect your mother," His voice was dangerously low. "She's come back all this way to be with you again."
Misty glared at him. "And I suppose you know everything she's done to me? Don't start on me, when you know nothing, absolutely nothing about me."
Magnus looked angry but didn't say another word.
Violet and Velvet started whining.
"We're starving! Can't we have something to eat?" Velvet begged in a whining manner.
Misty snarled. "You might as well go back to where you came from. You'll only be disappointed with our pity prey."
Violet raised her head and turned away in with a snort.
Heather shoved her muzzle into Misty's face. "We came all this way for you. At least act grateful! The reason your father and I left in the first place, was because we were trying to find a better place for us to live. We couldn't bring you: the journey would've been too dangerous for a little pup."
"Oh yeah right!" Misty didn't back down. "You left because my brother died. You didn't think I was worth anything unless River was with me!"
The Pack gasped and whispered in each other's ears. Tyrant looked surprised but didn't say a word.
Heather's eyes widened. "What makes you think we left for that reason? You have no proof!"
"Oh yes, I do!" Misty turned and faced her Packmates. She brought a paw up to the scar just above her eye. "My father gave me this scar. He struck me when I demanded why they were leaving!" She glanced at her cousin. "You were there, Isaac. You saw it happen."
Isaac nodded numbly and stared at Heather. "It's true. I saw everything."
Heather looked alarmed. Her eyes narrowed to dangerous slits. "That was one scratch. Stop being so dramatic Misty. You were never strong enough."
Misty's eyes glowed as she flattened her ears and bristled her fur. "I may not have been strong enough then. But because of what you made me live through, I have become one of the strongest wolves of Flame Woods Pack." She bared her fangs and lashed at the ground. "The pain you caused me is forever engraved in my heart. I'll never forget it. And it's because of you."
Heather swallowed and glanced at Magnus. Her mate shrugged and turned to Tyrant. "Is there a den we may stay in?"
Tyrant nodded slowly. "Yeah. I'll have Frost show you to your den."
When Frost approached, the alpha bent and whispered in her ear. "Have a guard here at all times. I don't fully trust her."
Frost nodded with a wary look at the newcomers.
Heather and Misty didn't break their glare. Mother and daughter; with absolutely no appreciation or respect for the other.
Finally, Heather sniffed and rolled her eyes with a quick glance at Rascal. "You could've done better than him." With that, she whipped around, and followed Frost to their den, with her mate and daughters. Velvet spat, literally, spat, in Misty's direction.
Misty looked back at Rascal. He looked hurt, eyes shining with pain, ears flat in shame.
She pressed against him. "You've got nothing to be ashamed of, my love. You're perfect in every way possible."
Rascal smiled, but it looked forced. He looked down at his paws.
Misty brushed her tail over his side. "You're perfect, Rascal. You're the only one in my life that gave me the love I never had. Don't listen to her. She's a crazy old bat."
Rascal gave a gentle smile and scuffled his paws in embarrassment.
Misty touched her nose to his. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Heather staring at her angrily. Misty didn't care what Heather thought. She never cared before, so why would she start caring now?
