Chapter 1 ~ Epilogue

Connor sat on the couch, controller in hand, eyes glued to the screen, him and Lucas had been trying to beat a single level for hours yet still no luck. They'd gotten so close, their victory only moments away, all they had to do was defeat the final boss and clear the floor. Both of the boys were on their last life, they had their full concentration on the screen, fingers racing across the buttons desperately trying not to screw it up. Connor's hands ached and so did his fingers but he wouldn't give up, not when he was so close. Lucas attacked the large boss with his Astra once more, it was Connors turn. He was going to finish this, he smirked and prepared to land the killing blow when the screen went black.

At first, he had at thought maybe the storm from outside had knocked out the power. But to piss him off a little bit more, Arya stood next to the tv swinging the unplugged cord in a circle in front of her. The two boys stared at her in complete distraught. Lucas fell to his knees dramatically, looking into his shaking palms. "N-no. This can't be happening." Connor, on the other hand, began to growl under his breath as he glared at the 20-year-old woman.

Unamused, Arya sighed and dropped the cord to the ground. Connor growled at her as she walked by but she only smacked him upside the head as she passed. "Ow! That hurt you bi-," Connor yelled, only to be cut off by a swift kick to his stomach. "Ack!" He yelped, his arms snaking around his torso before falling onto the couch, groaning in pain. Arya turned and glared at him. "Language," she snapped before walking into the kitchen. Connor sat up, struggling from the still very aware pain in his stomach. "Why'd you turn our game off, Arya?" We were literally seconds away from beating the level! And just look what you did to Lucas!" Connor shouted, gesturing to the 16-year-old boy, still on the floor in disbelief.

Arya rolled her eyes at him and without taking a glance at her brother she simply said, "He's fine. And I stopped your game for two reasons," she said, as she walked around the kitchen. "One, you've been playing all day and it'll be there when you get back. And two, you stink, go take a shower. Both of you." She said as she grabbed an empty pot from the cabinet. Conor scowled at her, "We would've won if you hadn't shut the game off! And we don't smell that bad." He snapped. Arya turned and looked at him, her annoyance growing. "Akihiko and Aeiko are coming over. You're lucky Aokiji couldn't make it, you already got on his bad side last time," she sighed.

Connor remembered the look Aokiji had given him when Aki had hugged him. He'd guessed that Aokiji was still skeptical about his brother being friends with Connor since he was a human. Because of that Connor had tried to make him see that he was a good person and he would never hurt Aki or anyone else of their kind. Though no matter how hard he tried, it only seemed to annoy the 23-year-old Langren (wolf person). For being so young, he seemed much more mature so Connor took a different approach of conversation.

He didn't ask about video games because he felt if he did it would make him seem immature in Aokiji's eyes. So he went on and asked about their culture and family. Aokiji was brief at first but when Connor asked about his family, he froze. He glared at him, standing up and walking into the kitchen. Connor followed to apologize but his attempts only made things worse. Aokiji slammed Connor into the wall, baring is teeth and glaring at him. "Stay away from my family, you will not talk to me nor will you talk to my brother. Akihiko is young and naive, I don't need the likes of you putting nonsense into his head," he barked. Connor stood terrified as the older male nipped at him, barely missing his face. He flinched, fear glazing his eyes. Aokiji huffed before letting Connor go and regaining his composure. He left the kitchen and went back to the dining room where everyone was eating.

Connor waited a bit, still shaking from occurrences just seconds before. He remained quiet the rest of the night and when Aki hugged him goodbye he caught Aokiji's eye and shuddered. Aki questioned him but he said it was just a little cold inside the house. Aki seemed to doubt his friend for a moment but shrugged it off and followed his brother and sister home. As soon as they had left, Connor told Arya what had happened. She shook her head and sighed, "You probably hit a nerve when you mentioned his family. They were killed by humans so it makes sense for him to feel distrust towards us. We are human after all, not the wisest move, Connor." She sighed, putting her hand on his shoulder.

Connor sighed in relief that he wouldn't have to avoid Aki's older brother. A knock on the front door snapped Connor out of his daze. He walked over to the door and slowly opened it hoping to see Aki. "Hey, Connor!" A familiar voice chirped, it was Faye, Connor wasn't disappointed to see his sister but it had been better if it had been someone else. He smiled and invited his little sister in, shutting the door behind her. "Hey, Faye. Where you been this time?" Connor asked, smiling at his sister. Faye opened her mouth to speak but closed it as her face twisted in disgust. "Is that you?" Faye asked, shaking her head. Connor looked at her in confusion. "Is what me?" He asked, to which Faye's only reply was, "that god awful smell! You smell like a fish in a closet." She said, sticking her tongue out. Connor looked sarcastically at his sister before smelling his shirt.

His eyes widened in disbelief, the smell of sweat sticking to his skin. "See? Told you, you stink," Arya said, tying her apron around her waist. Connor shot her a quick glare before looking back to Faye. "Aki and his sister are coming over too right?" Faye asked. Connor's jaw dropped, "Crap! How long do I have?" He yelped. Faye looked at her watch and inhaled through clenched teeth. "15 minutes." She said to her brother, eyes slightly widened. "Shi-," Connor was cut off once again. This time, dodging a frying pan from the kitchen. "Language!" Arya yelled from the kitchen. "Ow! Fine sorry!" He yelled, running towards his room to take a shower.

Connor showered and dressed as quickly as he could before there was a knock at the door. He ran to get it almost slipping on the rug, slamming into the front door. Arya peeked over the corner of the kitchen to see what had caused the loud bang. "Connor, what the fuck?" She shouted at him. Connor pulled away from the door and glared back her. "So you can swear but I can't?" He snapped at her. "I'm older than you jackass!" She yelled back, slipping back into the kitchen. "By one year!" He growled before opening the front door to greet his friend.

Aki ran to hug Connor, smiling as he normally did, and hugging him tightly. "Connor! I missed you!" Aki giggled innocently, wagging his tail as he hugged his best friend. This made Connor's heart melt and made him want to pet the small Langren. Despite them being the same age, Aki was rather short compared to Connor. Aki was only 5'8 and Connor, 5'11, but when it came to strength, they were just about equal. The small wolf boy drew back from the hug to look at Connor with his ruby-red eyes, only to give his friend a strange look.

Connor's hair was a mess and was still dripping wet, while his shirt was only about halfway on. Luckily he'd at least managed the decency of putting his pants all the way on. Though he still forgot his belt. Aki looked him up and down slowly, making Connor very uncomfortable. Aki then looked him in the eyes and began to push him towards his room so he could get dressed properly. Connor didn't really understand what was happening but he assumed there was some explanation for his friend's strange ways. So, he went with it as his friend pushed him into his room, curious to see what the little wolf's intentions were. His face flushed as his mind went somewhere where it clearly should not have gone. His creeping suspicions didn't go away when Aki shut and locked the door behind them. Arya and Aeiko looked at each other but didn't say anything about it as they were used to the boy's strange behavior.

Faye and Lucas however, didn't let what had just happened to go unnoticed. They looked at each other and have a quick nod. "Bet 5$ someone is going to be raped," Faye said, nonchalantly. Lucas nodded before taking out a 10$ bill. "Bet 10$ it'll be your brother who rapes Aki," he said seriously. Faye scoffed, "I bet another $5 it'll be the other way around." She said with confidence. Lucas shrugged, "alright, deal." He said, both of them putting their money on the table and grabbing a controller.

Hehe, yes.
