I should have pushed you over the hill.

Lima had hastily put on black track pants and a tank top with white shoes. She ran outside, her heart thudding fast. It had been quite a while since she had felt this level of agitation and stress.
She cursed the four under her breath, still unsure as to why she was so concerned about it.
Her skin didn't feel the chilly weather due to the tense heat her body was dripping with.
"Keep the first aid box ready, just in case." She shouted at Mr. Pence who nodded.
She was familiar with the route up the hill, it had been her childhood playground. She didn't necessarily like going up the hills though. It wasn't as safe as it used to be.
She walked briskly, hoping she wouldn't need to have the police all over her house yet again. She wondered if they would be stupid enough to continue walking even when the stones were unsteady and shaky. And she knew the answer, yes, they were stupid enough for that.
In the short time that she had known them, she knew how careless and disregarded they were about their safety.
Her feet went immobile the second she heard a shrilling scream. Her breathing got uneven and loud. Her feet now raced up, she ran faster, dodging tress and avoids unstable rocks. It was a path her body and mind had memorized. Her eyes scanning intensely for the four people living in her house for free.
After five more minutes of running and mentally praying that no one had fallen down the hill, she paused. She had found them.
Three bodies were bent over, catering to the needs of another one. She could hear them now.
"Are you hurt?" Alesha said, kneeling down.
"No." Another female voice answered, Olivia. "Rishit luckily caught my arm and pulled me. I just sprained my ankle, I think."
Lima sighed in relief, closing her eyes and taking calm breaths. Once she had her emotions and her concern under control, she made herself visible.
"What the hell are you all doing here?" She shouted, folding her arms and glaring at the four.
They winced, startled by the sudden angry yells. Viaan gulped. "Um, we just went for a walk."
"Is this a trekking tour? Or a picnic spot? Do you think this is a weekend getaway?" Lima walked towards them, her eyes quickly scanning for any signs of injury on Olivia's body.
Olivia looked away. "We just-"
"We just wanted to look around." Rishit answered.
Lima's eyes snapped to him. "Next time, ask. This isn't your property. This isn't a party house. You are not allowed to roam in the hills without my permission."
Rishit wanted to protest but he stayed quiet. He looked at the outfit Lima was wearing, it was different from all her other elegant dresses. This was put in a hurry, in fright. He felt his lips tug upwards into a knowing smile. Turns out, Lima might not be as cold-hearted as she pretends to be.
"Is she okay?" Lima pointed at Olivia. "Can you walk? Please tell me you can't."
Olivia tried to stand up, wincing as she felt pain run up her legs. Viaan and Alesha immediately rushed to her side, helping her up. "It hurts." Olivia bit her lower lip.
Lima breathed out, shaking her head at the recklessness of these people. This is why she hates humans, they are so dumb! "Take her back to the house. Mr. Pence will have a first aid kit ready, he'll help her."
Alesha and Viaan nodded. They put Olivia's arms over their shoulders and helped her walk down the hill.
Lima watched them for a few seconds making sure they could handle it. Her hands wrapped around herself, she now felt the chilly weather. Her bare arms were now succumbing to the cold wind that resided in the hills. She shivered slightly and rubbed her palms, trying to warm herself.
Suddenly there was a denim jacket placed over her exposed shoulders. She looked up in surprise, to her right was Rishit, wrapping his denim jacket over her shoulders.
Lima blinked at him in complete bewilderment. Her lips were parted, the red lipstick had almost disappeared.
His face was close enough to hers, in the evening sunlight she could see the hazel eyes had now turned into dark brown. He stood an inch taller than her. And his jawline was smooth and his lips rather tempting.
She hated how attractive he was.
She hated how attracted she was to him.
His fingers brushed over her nape and goosebumps rose on her skin.
She hated how her treacherous heart skipped a beat.
Time seemed to stand still as they continued to look in each other's eyes, Lima didn't dare blink afraid that it'd break this moment. But her mind knew better... if she had been a Princess, he would have been her ideal Prince Charming. Sadly, she was witch. And witches lived alone.
Finally, it was Rishit who looked away, licking his dry lips. "You looked cold." He simply said, removing his hands off the jacket and taking a step back, needing the distance for his own sanity.
Lima looked down at the jacket, hugging it closer to her. For some weird reason she felt warmer than ever before. Even her expensive faux fur jackets had failed to give her so much warmth.
The jacket smelled of Rishit, a little vanilla and spice and sheer masculinity. She breathed it in again.
She simply nodded in acknowledgement. She pressed her lips together, taking a step back and walking around the area, trying to find it.
"What are you looking for?"
Lima shook her head. "The hidden bodies."
Rishit pressed his lips together, amused by her sass. "Really?"
"Yes. It's getting dark." She kicked a pebble. "You should go back. You won't be able to see the path soon."
"And you can see?"
"I have lived here my whole life." Lima reminded him. "I know the path by heart. I won't get lost."
Rishit didn't reply to that. After a few minutes he picked up an Aluminum slate. "Looking for this?"
Lima turned to look at Rishit. He was holding the yellow Danger sign in his hand.
She grabbed the sign from his hand. She hated the fact that he was still here almost as much as she liked having him around her. "What are you still doing here? Do you want to die?"
"I am not good with directions so I thought it would be better to stick around with you."
She hid her smile. Like she said, he wasn't good at lying.
She should've ordered him to go back, leave her alone but she didn't want him to go.
Lima adjusted the yellow triangle slate on the pole situated a few meters down. Rishit didn't help her, he figured it would only agitate her. He stood at the side, watching her every move. Her lips were slightly pouted in concentration, her eyebrows furrowed and she stood on her toes, trying to reach the height.
"Do you need any help?" Rishit asked after a few minutes of watching her struggle and puff out frustrated breaths.
Lima turned and glared at him, offended by the question. "No."
Rishit looked down to hide his smile. Her pride was certainly something to look out for.
After a few minutes, Lima sighed and stepped away. She wiped her hands on the track pants and smiled in satisfaction. The sign was nicely positioned on the pole, done by her -all alone, with no help from this interfering handsome man standing next to her.
"Do you want me to clap and cheer for you?"
Rishit's taunting tone made her scowl and glare at him. "You should have gone with them." She muttered. "Or I should have just pushed you down the hill."
Rishit shrugged a shoulder. "Then you would've been cold."
Lima scoffed. "I like the cold." She kicked a pebble as they went down the hill.
Rishit looked at the city lights, they twinkled like colorful stars on the ground. He could see the tiny houses, the gardens in a distance. He saw a lake to his right. "Wow, is that a lake?"
"Nope. That's the Pacific Ocean." Lima answered in a sarcastic tone.
Rishit smiled, somehow, he was starting to enjoy her sassy tone. "Well, I want to visit it."
"It's not open." Lima told him. "It's too deep and on a private property."
"Wow." Rishit whistled softly. "Who owns a lake? Damn!"
"I own it."
Rishit's head snapped to the gorgeous and yet detached woman next to him. He blinked a few times, wondering if this was her being sarcastic again. "What?" He breathed out.
Lima pointed at the lake. "That's mine." And she started walking down the hill like it was no big deal.
Rishit followed her impulsively. "Then why can't we go?"
"Because I don't want you to."
Rishit twisted his lips, annoyed by her authoritative tone. "You can come too, we won't leave you and go."
"It's too deep."
"I can swim."
"Too bad, I was hoping you'd drown."
The road was too dark now. They could see the lights of the huge house from the distance but then too, they had approximately twenty minutes of walking to do. Rishit struggled to walk through the stones while Lima seemed to be easily floating over them.
"You know." Rishit started. "You ran over as soon as you knew we went up the hill."
Lima stopped in the tracks, Rishit bumping into her back as a result. "I didn't run over. I just happened to be jogging."
"Liar."
Lima looked into his eyes and she could see her reflection under the dim lights of the stars and moon. She could feel his gaze right into her soul and she hated it. It hadn't even been a day and this man was already pretending like he knew everything about her. Like he understood her. Like he cared about her.
She looked away hastily, hating how unsteady her heartbeats were. "I should have pushed you over the hill." She mumbled.
Rishit smirked, lightly pressing his hand over her denim jacket clad shoulders. "Then you'd be cold."
Even through the denim material she could feel his warmth sneak up her skin. She shrugged his hand away, hating the way her body was reacting to a simple touch. "Aren't you cold?"
They continued walking down the path. "I don't get cold that easily." Rishit replied.
"Why, because your heart is cold already?"
Rishit guffawed at that, his laugh loud and music to Lima's ears. How long had it been since she heard such a real laughter? Too long. He bent his head down, laughing and wheezing air.
Unconsciously Lima found herself smiling, her lips tilting up involuntarily, an undesirable reaction to his contagious laughter.
Rishit's laughter slowly cooled down. "Do you watch too many dramas?"
Lima raised her eyebrows. "Why? Was the dialogue too theatrical?"
Rishit grinned and Lima was blown away by how spectacular he looked when smiling so bright and big. It was one of the most beautiful sights she had ever witnessed and she wanted to see it again and again. She looked away and closed her eyes, taken aback by her own feelings.
"It somehow seemed normal coming from you." Rishit answered her.
"It's good that you think I am normal."
"Well, other than the fact that you want to kill everyone, you are pretty normal."
Lima chuckled lightly. "I want to stab and chop and burn bodies, killing makes me sound so boring." She joked, winking at Rishit.
He shivered in fake fear. "See, so normal." He mocked.
He lightly bumped her shoulder with his. "Come on, I am hungry."
The sudden action made Lima lose her balance and her body arched backwards. Her eyes widened in fright as she realized she was falling behind.
An arm suddenly grabbed her wrist and pulled it forcefully. Her head landed on Rishit's broad chest.
They were both breathing heavily. She could hear his loud heartbeats over her startled breathing. His one arm was securely around her waist and the other still held onto her wrist. She continued to stare at his white V neck tee, not moving an inch.
Slowly their breathing turned to normal and in sync.
This closeness was new for Lima, seemed more intimate somehow. Usually, she hated any contact with people but now, she didn't want to get out of his arms. She wanted to stay there for a really long time.
Lima was gathering the courage to look up at him, her head very gently lifting up, anxious to see his face.
An owl hooted from somewhere making them jump and step away from each other.
Lima cleared her throat awkwardly. She brushed hair and gripped the jacket tighter around her neck, as if that would protect her wild heart. "Well look at you, saving two women in one day." She smiled forcefully, trying to lighten the atmosphere.
Rishit swallowed hard, smiling back. He ran his fingers through his messy hair. "Yes, both incredibly beautiful."
Lima blushed a little and bit her lower lip to stop from smiling. It hadn't been long since a man had called her beautiful – it was something she heard often. But it had been long since she had believed the said words.
Rishit walked past her. "And neither being you."
Her smile dropped. "What?"
Rishit shrugged a shoulder. "I saved Alesha too while coming up. She almost pricked her finger on a thorn."
Lima scoffed, folding her arms as she walked behind him. "Are you saying I am not beautiful?"
Rishit smirked. "I am saying you're too old."
Lima gritted her teeth. She wanted to smack him on the head. "Old? We are of the same age."
Rishit continued to walk downwards. "Really? Which month are you born?"
"March." Lima answered. "And you? Take a left not right."
Rishit turned to the left. "July. See you are four months other than me."
Lima rolled her eyes. "That doesn't even count."
"Do you want me to take an interest in you?"
Lima's footsteps staggered at the blunt comment. She had to gather her thoughts before she could reply. "Are you crazy? I'd rather fall down this hill and die."
"That can be arranged."
"Wow you really are annoying. If I am older than you, shouldn't you respect me? Go right."
Rishit turned to the right. "You just said that doesn't count."
Lima breathed out in aggravation. "You are getting on my nerves."
Rishit turned to pass her a teasing wink. "Should I get on something else of yours?"
Lima's cheeks flushed, she couldn't believe she was having this conversation with one of her designers. "Are you always this flirty?"
"Only with attractive women."
Lima blushed.
"So, I should stop flirting with you."
She had once again fallen for that trap. "You know I have the perfect figure, right? If I were to enter that Miss World's contest, I would surely win."
"Who said such lies to you? Are those the bodies you have buried under your castle because they said such tormenting lies?"
"I am going to kill you." Lima swore, narrowing her eyes at Rishit's broad back.
Rishit was grinning from ear to ear, looking ahead as they neared the house. "You'll get cold."
Lima rolled her eyes. She pushed past Rishit knowing that he wouldn't get lost on the way now. She dropped his jacket from her shoulder on the ground. "Here. You can die now." And with that she stormed away.
Rishit picked up the jacket and chuckled softly. His eyes followed the women in black trackpants as she marched away from him. He quickly wore the jacket and breathed out from his mouth, a puff of cold air coming out. He rubbed his palms together and sighed in relief. He had been cold the whole time but he didn't want to show it.
He slowly walked into the house and was greeted with three very worried looking faces.
Alesha ran to him, scanning his body for any injuries. "Are you okay? What took you so long? She just came in looking furious. What did she say to you?"
Rishit smiled at them. "She told me to die." He replied and chuckled lightly, walking into the kitchen to get some water.
Three pairs of eyes blinked worriedly at him.
"Do you think he hurt his head? Why is he smiling while saying that?" Viaan asked.
"She probably cast a curse on him." Olivia thought out loud.
"Or drugged him?"
Olivia scowled. "She's a witch, Viaan, not a pharmacist. Think logical."
Viaan nodded in agreement with Olivia. "Yes, it must be a dark curse."
"Poor Rishit." Alesha sighed out loud, looking at him with pity in her eyes.
Rishit was still beaming. This jacket was suddenly his favorite now.
