Corin found herself living in that small room above the three Broomsticks for a good while, and if anything it aided her to be rehabilitation back into the world—Or this world.
She refused to believe that she was staying here short term, as both McGonagal and Dumbledore promised to be searching for a method in returning her back to her time.
She had little work to do, finding herself working at the small potion shop to earn a bit of coin in between the tasks Dumbledore set her out to manage. Some were strange and some were far too normal—Going to Honeydukes for example.
On the downside she wanted to share the future, to talk about warnings that would save the wizarding world so much damn heartache and all but alas...Either professor shushed her reminded her of the consequences they might face if she even whispered a hint.
Making her rather isolated, that the young first years she runs into on Hogsmead trips were all elders in her time. And yet they didn't look at her with much of an issue, there was a massive difference between the times...Though she started to normalize her schedule, until Dumbledore offered a change of scenery and she agreed.
Reluctantly of course...But she agreed.
Having quit being the assistant to a kind elder who took a chance on nothing more than a name and parchment from Dumbledore did the fellow feel saddened to see her go.
But never the less offered her a blessed trip wherever she went, and that was the issue—She hadn't a clue where she was going!
Dumbledore had been vague, but overall her task was to search for information on Grindelwald, a dark wizard that was more or less the influence of her own times' dark wizard.
All she was given was a boat's ticket—As Portkey's weren't allowed for the majority of wizards and witches, as with the ease it would Grindwald and thus...The entire wizarding community was suffering.
Though the idea of a boat didn't sound too bad, she still packed the majority of her normal things and a potion arsenal with a bit of the funds she was given.
One couldn't sorry.
Roe on the other hand acted as a scarf, a rather sick joke but this time period was more in tune with animal skins than in the eighties and thus...She was fitting in with the times.
After dealing with the flirty Captain and his fellow crewmen throwing an onset of whistling she had to remember that her being a 'lone woman' meant that she wasn't committed as usually a man would be escorting a woman on an adventure like this.
But she continued with a smile and hurried onto the HMS Temeresi, after being escorted to her room with a crewman carrying her small trunk into the room for her. "Thank you darling, here." She said, giving a small tip as she faintly remembered that was a big thing.
"Huh, you brits are nicer than I would've imagined. Be careful doll, America isn't used to it." She tried to hide her expression on finally hearing the location she was headed but it did make a bit of sense.
Wasn't he found in America?
"Duly then, and thank you."
"Ever have any trouble darling, names John." She smiled once again but was reluctantly thankful that she had the space to herself, the boat hadn't been all large, and if anything she was given a fairly decent sized cabin to get her bearings together.
Having settled her things and making sure that Roe had a bit to eat before hearing the warning horns that the boat was on route to America, Corin found herself wanting to enjoy a bit of the fresh air before it get any colder...And thus, she exited and made sure to lock up.
If Roe had ever managed to get the sorting hat onto his little head she had no doubt that he would manage to be placed into Slytherin.
It was just in his nature to be a sneaky mess.
Having ventured out the isolation of her cabin she was greeted by an elder couple, they were rather doting in terms of asking about her travels. And thus Corin took it as she was being sent from her family here to take care of a sickly relative, and seemed the best course of action to be fibbing through the muggles she met here and there.
Course John hadn't been the only flirt on this boat, lunch had been filled with eligible bachelors that were boasting that they were going to be joining the stock market or had a brilliant invention to pitch. And Corin could instate from where she sat in the wobbling dining room chair which would fail and succeed, but never the less she kept a kind grin on her face and made the most of this active conversation, it was lively—And even better there was entertainment, wine drinks and dancing all planned for tonight.
Suppose it would be good to unwind a bit, wouldn't it?
Having stuffed herself full of delicious sandwiches and chowder she decided to take a lap around the boat for good measure, after she would go and check up on Roe and share the scraps from her lunch with him.
All before passing out from a food coma, merlin she was quiet known for it in Hogwarts. Never the less she continued onward, smiling at those she now knew the names up before she came near the front of the ship.
Had she known any bit of ship lingo she would've known how impression this massive vehicle was for its time. Or how expensive a ticket like this would cost a normal individual, however her eyes were pinned to something else—Someone else for that matter.
"Dumbledore you absolute...Bloody liar!" She hissed, turning around towards the bars in record of not being heard from her absolute favorite idol on the planet.
Newton Artemis Fido Scamander, born on the 24th of February in 1897. A Zoologist for the Beast Division in the Ministry of Magic.
And Corin had to throw all her bloody knowledge out to the ocean before her eyes widened to the fullest extent.
Newt was on his way to America...Which means...
"He's going to run into Grindelwald...Bloody fuck." She cursed, attempting to recall who the damn bloke was he was impersonating. It wasn't something she readily focused on in terms of her research on Newt. She knew more about his studies and methods than what he was up to in his time in New York, all she knew was that this is where he'd meet his future wife, Tina.
Her sister, Queenie.
And then another fellow who she couldn't rightly place.
Turning back around she spotted him still in the same spot as before, occupying the bench with his suitcase station in between his legs on the floor while his notebook was being heavily attacked by his chaotic scribble.
"What I would do to read the first draft of his manuscript..." She mumbled to herself, but in record of this fantasying moment of what he could possibly be jotting down, his thoughts?
A Plan?
He had moved aside his suitcase and apologized for it being in the way of a couple coming to pass him, and did it for everyone who came by.
"Oh you are such a Hufflepuff." She whispered to herself, and thus found herself in a rather flirtatious mood...It wouldn't hurt to simply chat, would it?
Whatever Newt had written had been interrupted by the number of times he'd been apologizing for a bump, or lack thereof. It must've been too irritating as he pocketed his journal and found himself looking outward to the ocean.
Much like Corin was doing moments ago, and yet she somehow found the courage to put one foot in front of the other before leaning against the rallying beside him.
"I rather like that scarf...Vintage?" She cooed, but after it had sounded out into the air for a moment or two she realized how utterly dumb it really was. Sure in her head it was meant to be more of an 'oi you go to Hogwarts too?' Type of thing, but alas she had made poor Newt fumble with the close contact of a witch to call out of his Hufflepuff colored scarf.
"Er—Not particularly no...It's um..." To rectify the situation Corin gestures to hers and fluffs up the same design yet only a different pattern that laid between them. And it was clear he relaxed almost instantly after realizing what the colors stood for.
"Sorry Ms...Forgot I was wearing it to be frank."
"Ah, did I disrupt a thought? I'm sorry, I have the tendency to do that. I'm Corin by the way." She held her hand out for Newt who seemingly looked off guard once again.
This witch was far too straight forward for the likes of this anxiety-ridden Hufflepuff, but her smile left him daze and he found the slight courage in producing an even enough shake to greet her properly with.
"Newt Scamander." She smiled, bowing her in a slight tilt. "Don't suppose you're here for a fresh start are you?" Corin questioned, having known the exact answer to his reasoning for coming to America left her in a rather tight spot.
Perhaps Dumbledore thought he could use a bit of aid?
"N-no...I'm here for...For a few reasons I suppose."
"I'm sorry, I tend to overstep as well."
"Not to worry, it's been a while since I've talked to a witch."
"Oh? That's quite encouraging Mr.Scamander." She caught with a risen brow, hadn't he been a sweet creature obsessed lad?
Had the books not done his Hufflepuff persona justice?
"No what I meant was—Was talking to someone who doesn't click or-or hiss back."
"I've heard from others I could indeed click or hiss back, don't be surprised if I do. Though usually that happens when I'm nervous or slightly tispy." He let out a rather uncontrolled chuckle, as though he hadn't meant to let it slip and wanted it contained, yet this Ravenclaw was surely a barrel of laughs.
Full of wit, but a rather brilliant and humor-filled one.
Corin had found herself listening to her idol dwell on and on at one of the boat's front bench, she simply smiled and soaked in all the beginning information that he's gathered.
And it would only blossom from there.
In a silent segway between one topic to the other, Newt had caught that Corin had looked up to the sky with a slight frown. He felt the onset of anxiety and fear rush through him and stab his gut, had she been bored already?
Had he over-stepped?
"Hm, it looks like it'll rain tonight...What floor are you staying on?" He smiled and sighed in relief before hurrying and say that he was on the same floor as her, though she had been slightly peeved that she hadn't been given his exact cabin number.
But what was she going to do? She wasn't a Gryffindor with the confidence to sneak in and seduce the bloke, she barely had the capability to breathe fluently with him expressing his interest in beasts.
He could be talking about the mating of Doxy's, the small, sharp-toothed creature with beetle-like wings. And she was surely going to fawn over it later.
"Don't suppose you've actually seen a Erumpent up close and in person have you?" She smiled with a sense of pride that she had indeed done just that. "I had a small internship over the summer holiday, the family took in rescues. It was an adorable family function....Though I don't think they've managed to keep funds to support it." She finished, and she caught the disappointment in his eyes.
"So sorry to hear that, are you—Do you still plan to work with creatures?" The girl squeals at the future idea, nodding with so much excitement that he had to take another look to make sure she wasn't a Hufflepuff.
Her enthusiasm was refreshing and he was welcoming the conversation, something he hadn't had for quite some time. And probably wouldn't if the case between his legs wouldn't stop it moving, he needed to check on his creatures soon—This full day of travel was messing with the schedule they're used to.
"I do, though I think I need a bit of soul searching...Haven't gotten my bearings together and well...America seems so modern and new I just jumped for the opportunity as it arises. It's not something I've done before. But my internship was meant to turn into a job, and I suppose I'm out of both." His shoulders fell at her admitting of having lost a potential job.
"Again, I'm sorry to hear that. You sounded excited about it, what do you plan on doing in New York then?"
That was a brilliant question Newt, one that I haven't gotten to yet. She laughed in her head, sure Albus had set her up with enough funds and all but it wasn't enough to go off of anything.
And if anything, Newt was the one to discover Grindlewald. She'd need to play stealth and follow him around New York instead.
"I dunno, but the magical world in another country always seemed fasinating from far away...Now it feels like I'm so far away from home." Newt was surely confused by the sudden whims and wishes of the gal before him, and although he felt the compulsive urge to soothe her worries and talk to her more.
But a muffled roar had caught his attention and he rose up to his feet abruptly, obviously scaring Corin as she jumped back in retaliation of not getting whacked with his briefcase.
"Excuse me, Corin. I'm afraid I should get to bed. It's been a busy day and—Goodnight." The fellow had ducked his head and rushed in a level of retreat, if anything Corin was used to that sort of treatment.
She had dated a few lads—Or had gone on dates with a few lads rather, mostly older than her and wanted the obvious. But between the Hufflepuffs and those alike, she realized that perhaps she needed to have reevaluated how she wanted to go about asking him to tonight's entertainment.
But then again, doing a brief over on their encounter she realized that he probably would've declined. So to defend her heart from being crushed by her idol, she decided to go ahead and attend on her lonesome.
And sure enough, it was a blast.
After the nap taken after dinner and still no sign of the bloke she continued with her original plan, and although it was slightly not the style of the time period of her hair to be as long as it is, she decided to let it into a long braid at the whisk of her wand.
The dress however was picked out by the clerk who worked at the clothing shop just down a few doors, she was a kind witch. Definitely a few years older than Corin herself, but thankfully that is where she had learned most if not all of the habits and mannerisms that were displayed here.
As they weren't that much different than the muggles did, or hopefully not.
After a very beautiful dinner, one of the many passengers found themselves at the piano and decided to entertain the entire ship with a bit of music. Meaning she learned the few dances from this time and nobody rightly faulted her on the excuse of not wearing the right shoes and being unfamiliar with the tune.
All of which the younger ladies aided her with, but it had been a lad named Derrick who made a very seductive acquaintance with Corin that she attempted to pass it off with friendly chatter, but in being one of the many single and lone woman travelers, it was ideally prime attention to those around her.
But her lie on an ill Grandmother still reigned believable, however what she didn't realize was how easy it was to get drunk from the offered wine and thus...Derrick escorted her back to her cabins with a chilling kiss to her cheek.
After learning where she was staying for the rest of the trip.
