Corin let out a rather painful groan as they managed to apparat right back to the rooftop, as it was one of the only landmarks that Newt could recall in just a short amount of time.
She quickly realized that perhaps Pickett was simply scared of being grabbed, so when she opened up her cupped handsโThe little fellow who was all too ready to attack simply looked up to both her and Newt.
Realizing his mistakes and making a rather sad cooing sound at the sight of her scratched up palms.
"I have to say Ms, you're one for trouble." Corin gawked at Jacob's observations, but since she had met Newt she had been hurt by one of the boat's passengers, scratched by a Niffler, fell on her wrists while ice skating away from a creature to this...And now Picket decided to act as a paper shredder.
"How about we call it ingraining this night into my head better, shall we?" Jacob returned her chuckle, while Newt didn't hesitate to wave over his wand in an attempt to magically stitch up her scrapped hands.
"Now then, where is Macy's Department store?" He quickly segwained, knowing that Corin wouldn't take the offering of a bandage and sap at a time like this. But he also wasn't expecting Pickett to stay at her side rather than hisโ
Well he was expecting some retaliation and a grudge, yet there hardly was any time to say sorry as the group arrived to the department store not long after.
Upon entering, or 'kindly letting ourselves in,' as Newt explained. Corin was blasted with the smell of pine-needles and gingerbread, which made her mouth salvate at the mere whiff of it.
Merlin she loved gingerbread.
The department store itself was decorated heavily for Christmas, while Corin wasn't familiar with the brandโThey seemed to have a plethora of expensive jewelry, shoes, hats and perfume.
It seemed relatively bougie with the rest of New York had for the seasonal festivities, though she didn't know wether or not there would be security for stores like this.
She was out of her element and time after all.
The place itself was shut down, meaning all the lights were shut completely off. And from what Corin could hear, there was nothing out of the ordinary.
Or it was ordinary until the group saw the casual handbag float down the central aisle, accompanied by the small grunting nosies. Which reasured Corin that the creature wasn't injured.
Newt, Corin and the rest of the group quickly tiptoed through the store, coming to hide behind a large plastic Christmas display. They eye-up the floating handbag in pure awe and contemplation on how to actually catch something that was invisible.
"So Demiguises are fundamentally peaceful, but they can give a nasty nip if provoked." Newt whispered off the group behind him, it was then that Dougal made an appearanceโHis beautiful silvery-hair managed to highlight him in the dark store, but of course the orangutan-like creature did what they do best.
Climb.
And the little fellow clambered over a display to reach a box of sweets.
"You two head that way...And try very hard not to be predictable." Newt directed, though the two didn't miss the last part on being 'predictable' as that was easy without the much needed context.
A small roar resembled a needed call out, and Corin hadn't been the only one to hear it as both Dougal and Newt tilted their head at the sound, all before looking up towards the ceiling.
"Was that the Demiguise?" Tina asked, questioning the roar in itself and Newt shook his head.
"No, I think it might be the reason that the Demiguise is here." The Ravenclaw's eyes rose tenfold, what could possibly make that noise?
Corin's curiosity had caused her to trickle forward towards the beast, who was still shopping throughout the store for snacks. However he realized soon enough that he'd been spotted, leaving Dougal to turn up to both Corin and NewtโWho was just a step behind her.
She smiled to Dougal and he let out a greeting coo before moving up a set of side stairs. Corin didn't hesitate to follow suit, her concern for the Demiguise triumphed the worry on what the other creature.
Newt protective watch over Corin as she walked up towards the attic, however his thoughts were yanked from him with one simple word. "Clyde?"
Scamander rushed up the remaining steps with Tina right on after him, and the footsteps further behind suggested that Jacob and Queenie weren't that far behind either.
The Demiguise had walked along the attic, with Corin just about by his side. She bent down to sort through what was found from the filled handbag, pushing aside the fake food to the real sweets.
"Its sight operates on probability, so it can foresee the most likely immediate future." Newt taught, and while his eyes flickered up to Clyde, he couldn't help but adore Dougal filling Corin's hand with snacks to find up to the enormous beast.
"So what's it doing now?" Tina questioned. "It's babysitting." And that was confirmed just as Dougal pushed up Corin's hands up farther than her head in an offer to the shadowed beasts.
"What did you just sayโ?" The Auror gasped, and Newt tilted his head up just as he came to the other side of Dougal and Corin.
"This is my fault. I thought I had them allโbut I must have miscounted." He confirmed, his actions all planned out and in slow motion to secure the case in a ready open position to contain the beast.
It became clear to Corin that Dougal didn't act out on purpose, he was trying to follow one of the babies.
"It was babysitting that?" Tina gasped, just as the beak had managed to snag one of the many treats in Corin's hands.
"Occamies are Choranaptyxic. So they grow to fill available space." He informed, and wether it be the voice or the food's scent having disappeared, the Occamy had spotted Newt and crained its head towards him.
"Mummy's here." The Zoologist said with a comforting coo, offering a small pet as it was clear that Clyde was no longer a youngling.
While the two closest to the Occamy didn't know what caused the sudden uproar and panic, but Corin had tried to call out his name in hopes of getting him to remain calm.
But it was a failed attempt, especially when the Occamy swoops down, scooping Newt up onto its back as it violently thrashes it's wings about the attic.
The sound of shelves flying caused Corin and the rest to duck for cover, but every corner seemed like a new hazard. Leaving her in the complete open for the opposite end of the Occamy to squash her.
"We need an insect, any kind of insectโAnd a teapot! Find a teapot!" Newt shouted from about, and Corin's hand instantly went to her pocket to secure a vial in hand. "I have an insect!" She held up, and sure Jacob and Queenie had given her a strange look at first, it was a relief that there wouldn't be a true need in collecting an insect from somewhere in this room.
It almost felt like finding a needle in a haystack.
Tina on the other hand, was army crawling her way through the rest of chaos, attempting to dodge the rest of the falling items to find the last thing they needed.
A tea pot.
The wings of the Occamy crash down to the floor, narrowly missing Jacob as he stumbles around, the Demiguise finding his own safety as he clung to his back.
However Newt was finding it a new challenge to hold onto Clyde's back, as the beast was feel the distress of the situation and claustrophobic to the compartment store now that he attempted to spread it's wings.
"Teapot!" Tina informed, clutching it close to her chest, but either witch realized that they were at the far end of the room from one another. And perhaps Tina's yell had been the last tick, as the Occamy started to rear its head once more. Which soon followed a writhe of it's tail, squashing and pinning the better part of everyone around the attic.
Yet the base of the head had sudden been straight near where Newt had been holding on.
No part of Corin could move, nor could she run if she had the chance. As Clyde's enormous body was pressing up rather sufficiently against the wall behind her.
"Corin...Throw it." She nodded, breathing in for a moment as she soothed through Clyde's feathers as she looked towards Tina now. While she didn't throw it, she sent it via a charmโBut it needed to be much quicker.
As the second the small Beatle had been caught by the beast's eye, it instantly began to move once more, Uncurling and swirling around the room to maneuver in a way to capture the bug in it's beast.
Newt jumped from the Occam's back, landing safely on the floor and sending a spell to cushion Corin's fall just before he darts to meet Tina at the center of the room.
The teapot was outstretched to cover more ground, she landed on her knees just before the bug fell perfectly into the said container. The Occamy rears up to the ceiling, shrinking rapidly as it risesโThough it was the scariest sight in Corin's point of view to see the beast diving down headfirst.
However Clyde glides in seamlessly, fitting snuggly into the confined space to munch on said bug. Yet Newt didn't want to take any second chances and jams a ill fitting lid on top the teapot.
"Choranaptyxic. They also shrink to fit the available space." Newt explained, though the level of demand had caused everyone in the room to breath so heavily.
Corin closed her eyes in complete bliss that the last create had been secured, and so she leaned back onto her hands. "Is everyone alright?" She called out, and she received nods and smiles, yet what she wasn't prepared for was the sudden appearance of Dougal right in front of her as he turned off his invisibility so she could see him.
A small coo and chirp escaped the primate and Corin offered her hand out to him before wrapping him a hug. "I'm so happy you're okay." She said, taking the toddler sided beast into her arms and petting through his long locks.
"Tell me the truthโwas that everything that came out of the case?" Tina questioned, her hands coming to cup the teapot more securely than the handle.
"That's everythingโAnd that's the truth." Newt confirmed, only for him to have turned around to hear Corin's giggles off to where Corin was. He hadn't known where Dougal had gone, but he wasn't worried that he wondered off far.
Not when the Occamy had been detained, so while everyone had managed to get a breath of reliefโNewt and Tina worked together in an attempt to get the Macy's store in repair so they wouldn't be tracked back to this as well.
It would be better to cover their tracks, and once that was finished, the group Disapparented off in return to the Goldstein's apartment building to have a safe location in returning inside Newt's case.
