14 - A Winter Storm

Day 3, Wednesday

"Uh...Cas? I think we're stuck in here."

"What?" Cas opened his eyes to look at Dean who was staring out the window of the cabin. It was snowing. A lot. Probably more accurate to call it a snow storm even though the author has no idea what those are like. "Oh."

"I don't mean to alarm you but Michael and Lucifer have the food."

Cas sat up straight and went to check the window. Yep they were stuck. "We're going to starve."

"Oh don't be overdramatic," Dean said.

"This is it, we're going to die in here," Cas said, flopping back down onto his bed. "This is the end."

"Oh my god not this again," Dean said, smiling slightly.

"Again?"

"Remember that time we had to build rafts?"

"We almost drowned, that is not funny," Cas said, but couldn't stop the smile forming on his lips.

"You acted overdramatic the entire time just so you could make a Titanic reference," Dean said, fully smiling now. "You said you would never let go..."

"I let you go," Cas said, then smiled innocently at Dean.

"Bitch," Dean said.

"You love me," Cas teased. Dean glared for a second before jumping onto Cas and tickling him. Cas yelped and tried to shove Dean off but Dean wouldn't move. "Dean stop!"

"Why would I do that?" Dean said. He did stop a moment later and Cas's laughter died down into a fond smile. Dean smiled and then leaned down to kiss Cas softly. Cas smiled into the kiss and of course Gabriel chose that moment to walk into the room.

"Oh," he said. "I'll just. Go. Yep. Awkward." He turned and left, and Dean pulled away chuckling softly.

"Remember when you used the excuse of not hanging out with Gabriel just to be in a room with me?" Dean murmured to Cas.

"Yeah...I remember," Cas said, smiling.

Meanwhile in the other room.

"There's no food in here," Gabe said, after going through all the cupboards.

"Of all the ways to die," Sam said. "It had to be like this."

"Nope I refuse," Gabe said. "We will make it up there." Sam raised an eyebrow.

"You're going to run through the snow storm?"

"Hells yeah," Gabe said, walking over to Sam. He held out his hand. "Care to join me?"

Sam paused for a few moments, looking at Gabe. Then he shrugged. "Sure, why not? What's the worse that could happen?" That was probably their first mistake.

They put on several more layers of jackets before opening the front door of the cabin. They were both immediately hit with a gust of freezing wind, but there was no turning back now. Gabriel grabbed Sam's hand and pulled him out into the freezing air, the wind and snow hitting them hard. The two of them then proceeded to run up to the hall, huddling close to each other as they did.

They managed to get through the door, closing it behind them and breathing heavily.

"Well," Gabe said. "We're smart."

"What do you mean?" Sam said.

"How are we going to get back?" Gabe asked. Sam just shrugged.

"We'll figure that out later," he said. "After food."

"Agreed," Gabe said, before walking over to the kitchen. In it, he found...nothing. There was no food. "What the hell?"

"Okay where the hell is the food?" Sam said.

"We snap it into existence," Luci said, appearing behind them. "Duh."

"Does that mean you could've snapped it into existence down at the cabin?" Gabe asked. Luci shrugged.

"Probably."

Gabe glared an evil glare that made Lucifer slowly back away and then turn and run down the hall.

"Well then," Sam said. He was shivering, rubbing his hands up and down his arms. Gabe frowned at this and walked over to him, pressing close against Sam's side.

"Stop being cold," Gabe said. "You're not allowed."

"Sorry," Sam said, smiling and putting an arm around Gabe. "So what now?"

"We need food," Gabe said. He looked over at the kitchen again and saw food magically there now. "Oh look, Luci left us a peace offering." He looked between Sam and the food and then dragged Sam over to the food with him.

"It's all candy," Sam noted. Then suddenly moose food appeared there too. "Not even going to question it."

"He's satan, you kinda get used to it," Gabe said. "We should eat the food before he decides to take it away."

"Agreed," Sam said.

~~

Dean and Cas were sitting on the couch in the cabin, huddled under a pile of blankets with the fire burning.

Luci appeared suddenly. "I bring food," he said, placing something down before vanishing again.

"Righty then," Dean said. "It's too cold to move."

"I agree," Cas said. "I wonder what became of Gabe and Sam."

"What why?"

"They're not in here," Cas said. "Which means they must've gone outside."

"...I though Sam was smart."

"Gabriel's idiotness cancels it out."

"Well isn't that just great."

Cas chuckled and huddled closer to Dean, pulling the blankets tighter. "It's cold."

"Duh," Dean said, smiling.

"Tell me about summer," Cas said quietly. "You were trying to get me to remember how I felt..." Dean smiled softly at him.

"Well for one we weren't cold," Dean said. "Didn't have to huddle for warmth but we'd do it anyway. I guess you just liked the physical contact." Cas smiled softly. "Remember Gabe and Sam took photos of us sleeping in the same bed in the mornings?"

"Yeah I remember that," Cas said, smiling. "That was always the best way to wake up..."

"Do you remember how it felt?"

"Warm and happy," Cas said. "I felt completely content with life. Could've stayed there forever." Dean smiled, pressing a kiss to Cas's hair.

"How did you feel when you left?" Dean asked quietly. Cas blinked.

"I don't know."

"Try and remember," Dean said. "I know Naomi made you forget but..."

Cas sighed. "I guess I would've felt sad...probably lost. Seeing as I was so happy the week before. I would've wanted to do anything to get that back..." Cas was silent for a moment. "It hurt Dean...to have everything I wanted and then to have it taken away..."

Dean pulled Cas closer to him, wrapping both arms around him. "I know Cas."

"I missed you," Cas whispered.

"Hey well I'm back now, aren't I?" Dean said with a small smile. Cas smiled and looked up at Dean, his eyes flicking down to Dean's lips. Dean closed the distance between them to kiss Cas softly.

~~

"This was stupid," Gabe muttered, shivering.

"You think would be a fire or a heater or something in here," Sam said, also shivering. "Do you think we could make a run back for it?"

"I mean we did make it up here..." The wind outside chose that moment to get exceptionally bad. "Shit."

"I think we can make it," Sam said. "Better than freezing to death in here."

"True," Gabe said, and the two of them walked over to the front door of the hall. On the other side of the door snow was beginning to pile on the ground. "Well..."

"We'll make it," Sam said doubtfully.

"Of course we will," Gabe said, sounding equally as confident. "It was nice knowing you Sam."

"Likewise," Sam said, putting a hand on the door handle. "Ready?" Gabe nodded, and then Sam pushed open the door.

They were hit again by the harsh wind, and the two of them ran out the door, keeping their arms wrapped around themselves as they did. The snow falling was now so thick that they could barely see far enough ahead to see the cabin. With the wind and snow there was no way they could run properly.

Gabe glanced over at Sam as they made their way down, and then grabbed Sam's hand, standing close to him as they braved the storm.

Eventually they got to the cabin, slamming the door shut behind them and huddling for what little warmth they had left.

Cas and Dean were on the couch, staring at them.

"You guys are idiots," Dean said.

"Shut up," Sam said, his teeth chattering as he talked. Gabe was still holding Sam's hand, and just pulled him with him as he walked over to sit in front of the fire. Without another word he just kinda fell over and lied down in front of the flame. Sam blinked at him before shrugging and doing the same. Gabe rolled over to curl against Sam's side, burying his face against Sam's neck.

Dean sighed and stood up, going into Sam and Gabe's bedroom to return with a pillow and blankets.

"Thank you Dean," Sam said as Dean dropped the items on top of them. Sam put the pillow under their heads and tried to kick the blanket around without sitting up because that would disturb Gabe, which didn't work.

Cas saw his struggle and chuckled before helping to put the blanket over the two of them.

"Cas you're too nice," Dean said. "That was funny to watch."

"Shut up Deano," Gabe said, his voice muffled by Sam's shoulder. Sam shivered as he felt Gabe's breath on his neck, not from the cold.

Dean and Cas returned to their huddled spot on the couch. "Been a while since we all sat in here," Dean said.

"Remember the first time we did?" Cas asked. "Gabe asked if you guys were gay." Gabe chuckled slightly against Sam, as Sam smiled softly and rolled over to wrap his arms around Gabe. Cas smiled at them.

"Yeah look how gay we all turned out," Dean said. He was also watching his younger brother. "Okay you know what, you guys take the couch, that can't be comfortable." He stood up and Cas stood too, moving to sit on the floor.

"Thanks," Sam said, moving onto the couch. Gabe whined slightly at the loss of warmth beside him before lying on the couch beside Sam and snuggling against him again. Cas and Dean were now sitting on the floor in front of the fire.

"Maybe next time you guys shouldn't try to run through a storm," Dean said. Sam just rolled his eyes at Dean as he wrapped his arms around Gabe again, bringing one hand up to run through Gabe's hair. Gabe made a little happy sighing sound and Sam smiled.

"We would've frozen up in the hall," Sam said.

"You realize Lucifer brought food here right?"

"Yeah, after Gabe death stared him."

Cas chuckled. "Well everyone gets afraid of Gabe when he's mad."

"Why is that?" Sam asked. He glanced down at Gabe to see if he was listening, but Gabe had his eyes closed and his breathing had evened out, probably asleep.

"A few pranks gone wrong," Cas said, shrugging. "They really shook him up, even though he didn't mean it."

"Is that what he's scared of?" Sam asked and Cas nodded.

"He doesn't want to hurt anyone...he's probably afraid of hurting you."

"He wouldn't..." Sam said quietly.

"It would also bother him that you think that. He would assume you think like that because you missed the last five years, not because you trust him."

Sam was silent, and Dean just looked between the two.

"I feel like I'm intruding on something here," Dean said and Cas chuckled. Sam just looked down at Gabe's sleeping face sadly, and pressed a light kiss to his forehead.

The four of them stayed in front of the fire through the night, Sam falling asleep next to Gabe and Dean and Cas eventually falling asleep in front of the fire too.
