Derek

Derek is at his desk in his office. He is currently typing up contracts for a few business deals. He works through them until he is satisfied. Then he sends the contracts to the Alyssa, head of the editing department, to review and edit the contracts. Derek wants to make sure everything is flawless and nothing is left out of the contracts.

Once Derek is finished, he turns off his laptop. He catches a glimpse of himself in the reflection of the screen. Derek stares hard at his reflection for a while and contemplates why he can't find a man for himself. Derek has all the good looks and is considered one of the most handsome men of the city. He has short jet-black hair in a fringe up haircut, along with chiseled facial hair. He has a gorgeous pair of deep-blue eyes.

I have all the good looks so why is it so hard to find a man that I want to spend the rest of my life with? He sighs to himself and puts his head in his hands. Today has been a really long day. When will things ever be different for me? I feel as if my life is on repeat, and I have the same routine everyday. Go to work. Hang with my two best friends. Come home. Do paperwork. Sleep. Repeat. I need a change in my life, and I need it now.

Knock knock can be heard from the door to Derek's office.

"Come in," Derek says in a tired voice. He looks up to see his two best friends, Drayton Edwards and Logan Ackerman, enter the room and close the door. "Oh, hey guys."

"Hey, how are you holding up?" asks Drayton.

"Fine. I finished typing up the contracts and Alyssa is overlooking-"

"No, not about your work. I could care less about that. How are you doing? You seem to be down lately. Logan and I are concerned about you Derek," Drayton explained.

Derek sighs and retorts, "Really? Says the one who is not doing any work. And I am fine as I have told you both many times before."

Logan huffs. "We know, but we don't believe you Derek. Something is bugging you and we are not leaving this room until you explain yourself. And that is final!" Logan says firmly.

Derek looks at his two best friends, and after a few minutes of silence he caves in.

"Alright. I have been a little sad and moody lately-" Derek starts off.

"A little?" Logan chuckles. Logan shuts up immediately when he receives a glare from Derek.

"As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted," Derek says while making a pointed look at Logan, "I have not been myself and have been feeling... well lonely. I am not happy with how my life is right now. I feel like my life is on repeat and the days are exactly the same."

Derek slumps in his chair and looks at the ground before continuing. "I am lonely, and I have no one to make me happy. I have you guys, but it is not the same. I want someone to love and someone to love me back just as much. Every time I see both of you with your wife and your fiancé, I get jealous and feel even more alone."

Logan and Drayton look at each other with worried looks on their faces before turning their attention back to Derek.

"How long? How long have you been feeling this way?" Drayton asks in a concerning voice.

"Yeah and how come you didn't tell us this sooner? We would never have intentionally made you feel left out and lonely," Logan says, hurt evident in his voice. "We would have talked less about our love lives if we had known-"

"It is okay Logan. I could never have asked that of you both. Especially when talking about them made you and Drayton happy," Derek says interrupting Logan before Logan could ramble on endlessly. Derek pauses before he continues speaking. "I have always wanted to find love. As you both already know, I am a hopeless romantic. Maybe about a year ago is when I started losing hope in finding love. After that, I started feeling more lonely and disliking those cliché romances on tv and in books."

Derek wipes a tear that started falling down his cheek. "Great. Now I'm tearing up. Anyways, it's unfair. I hate being alone. I want what everyone else gets. Where is the man of my dreams when I need him?" Derek puts his head in his hands and starts crying softly.

Logan and Drayton walk over to Derek and pull him into a hug. They all sit there holding one another in silence. After a few minutes Drayton breaks the silence.

"I think I speak for both Logan and I when I say we are both here for you Derek. We both love you so much and are very sorry that you are feeling this way. One day you will get your own prince charming and finally be happy." Drayton and Logan both stand up and help Derek to his feet. "Now, let's go get something to eat, just the three of us. We can't give you what you want, but we can cheer you up."

Derek chuckles and wipes the remaining tears out of his eyes. "Okay, thank you guys. You both really are the best."

"Oh, we know. Now, let's go! I am starving here," Logan says playfully. Derek rolls his eyes at Logan, and the three of them all burst out laughing.

Logan and Drayton both link arms on either side of Derek and walk out of Derek's office. The three of them all head off towards their favorite restaurant.
