14. Thirteen
Here comes the number thirteen
Considered unlucky by some
But whether it is really unlucky
Can guarantee no one.
A different story relayed by everyone,
A different reason to believe or to not
Isn't it a silly little number,
Just like others in the lot?
Tell me how many of you skipped 13
When you entered teenage?
Weren't you happy to be a teenager,
Rather than thinking it's the unlucky age?
Millions taking birth each day
Amongst which are those born on thirteenth
Are those people unlucky for all?
Reason for your 365-day halloween?
If this number is so unlucky,
Why a few festivals come on this day?
In my land, kites rule the January sky
And at night, bonfire keeps negativity at bay.
Lucky or unlucky number,
It's just a trick our mind plays.
Live each day like never before
And in your life, luck won't have a say.
A/N: I was intending to update this poem yesterday but I couldn't write it yesterday because my mind was on a strike for some reason unknown. 😂😂 But it is better to be late than never. 😂😂
Also, the festivals I am refering here are Lohri and Makar Sakranti which are celebrated in my country on 13th January. On Makar Sakranti, we fly lots and lots of kites. There are kite flying competitions and dance and fun.
And at night, we celebrate Lohri in which we light a bonfire and dance around it bidding a farewell to winters. It is said that Lohri marks the departure of winter season. (Although I don't agree with this. Winter truly goes away a month after this festival. 😂😂😂)
