Both

What should she say? She simply didn't know. She felt frozen. She wished the whole evening he'd come at least once back again, but she didn't really expect it. She hadn't even imagined how it would be when he would finally stand in front of her. The wind blew through his dark hair.

"Um," he began. "As you can see, I'm here"

"Yes, I see that," she said with a smile on her face. "And I'm happy"

They looked at each other again without saying a word.

"Well... well, how should I say? Why am I here again? You want to know for sure, don't you?"

She nodded.

"Well, um," He ran with one hand through his hair, placing then at the back of his neck and the other hand on his hips, and knitted his eyebrows; he thought. "I wanted to see you"

She gave a short laugh. "You're only a few hours away from this town and are already homesick?"

He shrugged. "Why not? It's a lovely town"

She nodded sadly. "Yes, it is. Or rather: It was"

"Why was it? Isn't it no longer?"

"It lost some of its shine since you are gone. It's still lovely, but not that lovely as it once was"

"That's why I'm back here again. To give back its shine"

"Aw, how sweet of you! How long do you stay?"

"I don't know yet but not long. My girlfriend is at her parent's place, her mother is sick. She'll call me when she'll come home again"

Home, he thought. That doesn't mean coming here. That never meant it to her. To her this town never meant anything. To her it was always just the small town her boyfriend comes from. Only the people who grew up here knew the meaning which the town does have to him. Nobody could take it from him.

"You don't look happy with this thought"

"I'm not. I'd rather stay here. Here with you"

"Ask her if you could move here..."

"No, you don't understand. I don't want to move here with her. I want to stay here with you"

The wind blew stronger and stronger. Her hair was disheveled. She stared at him. It felt like hours went by without either saying anything. It was like a staring contest.

"You like me?" she finally asked.

"That's what I try to make clear"

"But your girlfriend? What about her? Don't you love her? What have been the few last years with her? A pastime?"

"That's not my world in which she lives. The city life isn't for me, not at all. For her it's all about money, success, ascend to the top, society. All that which isn't important to me. I want to be here, here in this town, here with you. Here with my friends. Here, where everyone knows each other, where you don't have enemies, where trouble is settled by themselves. That's the place where I want to be. No socially conscious life. I want to stay here, even if that means I won't take this job in the musical. I want to turn down every goddamn offer, no matter how tempting, if it means I can stay here. Do you understand what I mean, how I feel?"

"Oh, yes, I do, but the way you sound your girlfriend doesn't, does she?"

"No, not at all. To her those things are the most important in her life. Always have been"

"What do you want to do?"

"You're still asking? I will stay here. I'm going to tell her something. I don't know yet, what. It'll be pretty close to the truth"

"But why do you stay?"

"I- I love you. I stay because I love you"

She smiled satisfied. "I just wanted to hear you say those three words"

"And?"

"What do you mean; And?"

"What do you say?"

"Why didn't you tell me sooner? I've been waiting years for this moment"

"So, you love me too?"

"'Course I do, dumbass," she answered with the biggest smile imaginable.

"Well, um," He looked embarrassed. "Um, in these thousand movies we've watched, well, so if we were in one of those, we'd have to kiss now, wouldn't we?"

And they did.

It was a soft kiss but with so much passion. It was a kiss like both of them imagined but better. Fireworks and all those things they didn't know you could really feel at your first kiss.

"In how many dreams and daydreams have I imagined what it'd be like to kiss you?" She asked after they kissed.

"In all of them?" He asked back, smiling.

She had been wrong, she was lying to herself: She'd been sad when he moved out of town because she was jealous.

And finally she was allowed to run her hand through his hair without any questions, as she had wished for so long.
