Phantom Pain
I sit in the stands of the arena watching the amazing match of Team RWBY against team ABRN. Sitting here in the Amity Colosseum brings both excitement for being here and terror of what to come. All I can do is do what I can when it comes for now, I'll enjoy the tournament and support my team.
(In case it gets deleted, put the fight video)
I was wandering the fair grounds looking for my teammates looking down each possible line of stalls, not looking where I was going and bumped into someone. I turn towards the person that person is Jack.
Y/n: Sorry about that, Jack, right?
Jack: Yes, Y/n, right? Ruby talks about you a lot.
Y/n: Huh, when did you start talking?
Jack: I managed to get her to exchange contact info. We talk, but not often I mostly start the conversation. It'll lead to you, her team, or her classes most of the time.
Y/n: Huh yeah? So, do you live here in Vale?
Jack: No, I'm from Vacuo. I came to watch the Vytal festival in person.
Y/n: Well, from the topic of where we're from, I'm from Menagerie.
Jack: Huh? Interesting.
Y/n: Nice bumping into you and all, but I should keep looking for my team. We'll talk more another time.
I leave him and continue looking for them, eventually finding them finish talking to Emerald. I rush over to them.
Y/n: Hey guys.
Yang: There you are. We were wondering when you'd find us.
Ruby: So what took you?
Y/n: I ran into Jack.
Blake: Can we walk and talk? I'm still hungry.
We start following Yang.
Y/n: So what I'm about to say, I'm not trying to sound like a possessive or overprotective boyfriend, but he set red flags off for me.
Ruby: Why? He seems nice.
Y/n: The conversation started with him talking about you. That he initiates the text conversations or calls with you, and the conversation topics lead to your team and your classes.
Weiss: With how Y/n puts it, it sounds like he's obsessed with you.
Ruby: I'm sure he's fine.
Yang: Has the conversation ever gone to a topic about him?
Ruby: Uh um no the only thing he ever told me about him was he told me he's from Mistral.
Y/n: He told me he was from Vacuo.
Ruby: Maybe an autocorrect.
Blake: How could Vacuo be autocorrected to Mistral?
Ruby: I... uh... I got nothing.
Y/n: Now my concerns seem justified.
Yang: Yeah, just block him, Ruby. If he tries to approach you, tell me, and I'll deal with him.
Y/n: Yeah, Yang went into overprotective sister mode. I'm glad I didn't have to go through that.
Ruby: Okay, I'll do that.
Yang: Here we are.
We stop in front of a noodle shop, each of us sitting down at the shop.
Yang: I'll take a bowl of the regular.
Ruby: Ohhhh, I'll take the same.
They were both given a large bowl of noodles. He looked to me, which I gave no notification, no signal, but he came out with a bowl with sliced pork and noodles.
Y/n: Wow, wasn't expecting that?
Weiss: Do you have anything with low salt?
She was slid the same bowl of noodles that Yang and Ruby ordered. The shopkeeper turned to Blake, which in turn gave him a nod he went in the back and came out with a bowl of noodles with raw fish for Blake. Soon, Weiss pulls out her card.
Yang: Aw, Weiss! What's the occasion!?
Weiss: Consider it thanks for sending me to the doubles round.
The card was soon thrown back at her like a shurikin wedging itself into wood in front of her with the register reading declined.
Weiss: What?! How can my card be declined? I was barely into my monthly allowance!
I looked over and saw Blake slowly moving her bowl towards herself but was soon taken away by the shopkeeper.
Blake: Nooo.
Pyrrha: Maybe I could help?
We look over to see the whole of team JNPR walking over to join us.
Ruby: (flings her arms wide in delight) Pyrrha!
Yang: Aw, you don't have to ...
Blake: But she could!!!
Y/n: I stand by Blake's suggestion.
Pyrrha: Well, I think you all earned it after that battle.
Jaune: Mind if we join you?
Later on, the bowls are empty, and each student is either content with their meal or holding their stomachs sickly.
Ren: Are you sure it's wise to have eaten before a fight?
Y/n: I'd say so.
Pyrrha: Of course! It will give us energy!
Nora simply gives a hearty belch. While Jaune looks like he's goons puke any second.
Jaune: If I barf, I'm blaming you.
Nora: Ooh! Aim at the enemy!
Ren: Nora, that's disgusting. But if you feel the urge...
Y/n: It would be a good distraction, if anything.
Jaune: (giving a weak thumbs-up) Got it.
Pyrrha: (standing up from her stool) Well, we should be off.
Ruby: So, you think you guys are ready?
Nora: (gestures to each of her teammates) Of course! We've got a world-renowned fighter on our team, one's basically ninja, I can bench five of me, Jaune, we trained all year, our weapons are awesome, Glynda barely yells at us anymore, and uh... Jaune!
Ren: Are you gonna take that?
Jaune: She's not wrong.
Nora: I'm kidding. He knows I'm kidding. (begins talking quickly, the color slowly draining away as she gets more worried) Don't be so nervous! The worst that can happen is we lose, that is just a few more years of walking around school with everyone knowing we're failures, our friends will slowly abandon us to preserve their social status, we won't be able to show our faces in class, no one will sit with us in the cafeteria, Ren and I have no parents, we have no home left to go to, we'll be officially renamed Team Lose-iper! (her mad laughter turns into sobs as she slams her head on the counter)
Ren: (unperturbed) So, yeah, we're feeling pretty good.
Pyrrha: Don't fret. If anything, we should be looking forward to a fight with actual guidelines, and not, well, ...murderers.
Yang: Yeah, don't sweat it, we've all faced way worse before.
Blake: (counts off the threats on her fingers) Let's see. Grimm invasions, violent extremists, a destructive sociopath...
Ruby: And that's all while we were still in training! Oh, imagine what it would be like to graduate!
Y/n: Maybe a giant killer robot. Or a couple of Goliaths single handedly.
Weiss: Maybe then I'll be able to pay for a meal.
Port over intercom: Would Team JNPR please report to the battlegrounds immediately!
Oobleck: Yes! Like they were scheduled to, several minutes ago!
Pyrrha: Well, it looks like this is it.
Ruby: Go get 'em!
Y/n: You got this!
Timeskip brought you by me hopefully, remembering to add both team jnpr and sssn fights
Ruby: (leans back in her seat and sighs) Aw, that was so close!
Yang: Looks like the dorks made it to the next round!
Blake: Emphasis on "dork."
Oobleck: (over the sound system) That concludes the matches for today. Please leave the Coliseum IN A CALM AND ORDERLY FASHION!
I clutch my wolf ears as he spoke incredibly loud.
Y/n: Oww, my poor ears.
Yang: Come on, let's go congratulate 'em.
We all get up and start making our way out of the Colosseum.
Ruby: Uh, what are you viewing?
Weiss: She's here!
I was going to join them, but I felt a sudden itch where I would have my leg if it wasn't a prosthetic.
Y/n: I'll catch up with you later, Ruby. Yang, can I get some help.
Yang: Yeah, what for?
Y/n: I have a phantom... itch, I think it's called.
Yang: What do you need my help with?
Y/n: I need help keeping a mirror steady between my legs.
Yang: O... k. Why?
Y/n: It's a mental trick I learned one day back home.
Timeskip back to the dorms
Once the door to the dorm closed, I opened a portal to my home so Yang and I could grab a mirror that mom never hung up in my closet. There was no need to bring it to the dorm. I sit down as Yang helps set the mirror correctly and keeps it still.
Yang: So how does this work?
Y/n: I focus on the mirror and scratch the leg that is still real. It will trick my brain into thinking I'm getting the itch on the leg that is gone.
Yang: How long will it take?
Y/n: Don't know. I've had phantom pain before, but I normally wait that out since pain passes while itches persist.
Short five minute timeskip of Y/n scratching a bad itch. We've all had those horrible itches that felt like heaven when you scratched them.
Y/n: Alright, let's get back to Remnant.
We put the mirror back, and I portal us back to our dorm, and as soon as I walk in, I get a message to meet Ozpin in his office.
Y/n: Ugh. I'll be back. Ozpin wants me.
Yang: I'll tell Ruby you got called to his office. If she gets back before you.
I portal my way up to his office since I know it so well. Once up there, I see Qrow and the rest of Ozpin's small group.
Qrow: Why's the pipsqueak here?
Ozpin: Now now Qrow he knows more then he let's on.
Y/n: Yes, such as Amber's condition, the rest of the maidens, your shadow war against Salem, and your oh so misfortunate semblance.
Ozpin: Now go on, Qrow.
Qrow: Alright, your little infiltrator isn't just another pawn. They're the ones responsible for Autumn's condition.
Glynda: What?
Qrow: Despite what the world thinks, we're not just teachers, or Generals, or Headmasters. The people in this room, the leaders of the other two academies, we're the ones that keep the world safe from the evils no one even knows about! (getting up in Ironwood's face) It's why we meet behind closed doors, why we work in the shadows. So you tell me, James, when you brought your army to Vale, did you think you were being discreet, or did you just not give a damn!?
Ironwood: (stares down at Qrow as he places his Scroll on Ozpin's desk) Discreet wasn't working. (the center of the room projects a hologram of Vale, Beacon Academy, the Amity Colosseum and Ironwood's fleet of Atlesian Airships, which he gestures to) I'm here because this is what was necessary.
Qrow: You're here because Ozpin wanted you here! He made you a part of this inner circle and opened your eyes to the real fight that's in front of us!
Ironwood: And I am grateful.
Qrow: Oh, well, you've got a real funny way of showing it.
Ironwood: The people of Vale needed someone to protect them; someone who would act. When they look to the sky and see my fleet, they feel safe, and our enemies will feel our strength.
Qrow: (starts laughing) You... You think they're scared of your little ships? I've been out there, and I've seen the things she's made, and let me tell you - they are fear.
Ozpin: (standing up) And fear will bring the Grimm. A guardian is a symbol of comfort. But an army is a symbol of conflict. There's an energy in the air now, a question in the back of everyone's minds... "If this is the size of our defenses, then what is it we're expecting to fight?"
Ironwood: So then, what would you suggest we do?
Ozpin: I suggest we find our guardian.
Y/n: Was there any reason I was included in this meeting?
Ozpin: Yes, actually.
Ironwood: Can you divulge anything about their plan?
Y/n: I'll say this one last time we have entered a sensitive point in the timeline of here. We are about to hit a fix point in time that would eventually possibly end with Salem being defeated. Even if I told you who the infiltraters are arresting them on school grounds or the Coliseum would possibly just create a public outcry wanting to know why they were arrested. Which would cause tensions and quite possibly distrust in Huntsmen and the Atlas military. Leaving them be is the best option. You can't confirm whether they did something illegal or not. I will narrow your search so you can identify them faster and possibly try to apprehend them afterward or outside the kingdom. They are posing as Haven students. Now, you only have to go through a couple dozen transcripts on the students from Haven. Now I think you also have to find your guardian now while one of you can search the other now. I hope this is your last attempt to get me to talk about the future.
