Chapter 5: Pt 2
All of us were left speechless. We were confused. Was....was this really all the outside world had to offer?
Just....empty space?
"T-This can't be. W-We can't be in s-space. T-There's no way." Crona stuttered. "Yeah, we're in a building! Not a rocket ship! W-What the hell is this?!" Ulric said. "Masaka. Is this really outer space?" Magane said.
"Nu-uh, incorrect answer, little lady," we all whirled around, once again seeing Monokuma appear out of nowhere. He gave a little chuckle, but Ulric just growled at him. "Damn you! What the hell is this bullshit, Monokuma?! This can't really be the outside world, can it?! There's no way we can be in space!" Ulric stated.
"Well, you're correct and incorrect." Monokuma replied. "What? What are you talking about?" Kanato demanded. "You see, this is a type of space. But, it's not outer space. Take notice that there are not any planets or moons." Monokuma replied. I looked back to the window, and my eyes widened. "He's right. There aren't any any planets or moons. Not even any asteroids or meteors. It's just....emptiness." I said.
"Now hold on, maybe the rest of you are blind, but I see stars out there." Kokichi replied. "Wrong again!" Monokuma stated. "What? But then, what are those little glowing lights out there?" Magane replied.
"Those, my friend....are the billions of portals to all different world and dimensions and timelines." Monokuma replied. I gasped. Now the outside world looked so....so different. "The....other dimensions?" Kanato said. "Then that means....these are the different portals you dragged us from. You dragged us from our homes and brought us here?! To this hellhole!" Ulric snapped.
"Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner!" Monokuma stated. "If that's the case, then can't we leave?! We can just hop out of this window and get the hell out of here!" Magane stated.
"Well, technically, you could try. But, there are a few obstacles in that plan." Monokuma stated.
"Oh yeah? Like what?" Kokichi asked. "One, I guarantee you can suffocate out there. It might not be outer space, but it still doesn't have any oxygen. And there aren't any space suits or whatever in this academy." Monokuma replied. "We'll make suits." Ulric said.
"Pufufufu, yeah, go ahead and try. To humor you, let's just pretend for a moment you are actually able to make seven suits that can hold oxygen and are durable. I believe I said there are millions of portals out there. Correction, more like billions. Maybe even trillions. Or even....whatever comes after trillions. Out of all those worlds, how in the world could you ever find out which ones are your homes?"
Monokuma was right. About it all. How in the world could we ever discover which portals led us to our homes. And how could we even get there without any suits? It's impossible. "You got us here, you somehow brought us here! You should know perfectly well which ones lead us to home!" Ulric stated.
"Ha, yeah right! I like I'd know! And even if I did, no way I'd tell ya. And if you tried to force it out of me, I can just delete my memory core before you can find out anything." Monokuma stated.
"Then how did you get us here?! Where even are we if we're not in one of these worlds?!" Ulric snapped. He clenched his fists, and gave a fierce death glare to the robotic bear. I was worried he was gonna attempt to attack him. "Yeesh, take a chill pill, bud. But, I'll answer one of those questions. We are in what I like to call the In Between. The space dimension that links all the other world entrances. Course, literally no one has been able to get here....except for me. And how I got here, well, that's my little secret to keep~" Monokuma explained.
"You little bastard...." Ulric growled through clenched teeth.
"Whelp, there you have it! The secret to the outside world! Hope you enjoyed the little exposition I was so generous to offer! Hope you have a fun time looking through the other rooms on this floor! See ya!" with that said, Monokuma disappeared without a trace.
"I don't believe this...." Crona murmured, still staring out the window.
"So, wait, does that mean this academy is some sort of rocket ship or something?" Kokichi said. "I don't believe so. With how complex the structure is, it doesn't seem to be a ship. But it is some sort of vessel that can stay in this In Between dimension with ease." Kanato replied. "This is so crazy....trillions of world out there, right before us. Maybe its a little messed up for me to say this, but seeing all of this is pretty cool." Magane said.
"It'd be cooler if we were stuck anywhere else but here...." Ragnarok stated in a disappointed tone. "I suppose that's true. Geez, this does suck, doesn't it?" Magane said, looking to me. But I didn't look to her. My eyes were glued to the window, staring outside. Magane looked at me concerned.
"Eh? Violet-san? Daijobu?" Magane asked. I didn't look at her. I continued to just look outside. Honestly, I felt so....hopeless. Knowing what the outside world looked like, knowing we couldn't just waltz out there, I felt more trapped then ever before. Not even leaving this building would be enough anymore. Now we have more new obstacles to face. I mean....could we even get out here? Was it even possible?
"Violet," I felt a hand on my shoulder, "Nee, say something." I looked beside me, seeing Magane's concerned expression. I looked past her, to look at Ulric. He was silent, and his bangs covered his eyes. My gaze dropped to his clenched fists. They were clenched so tightly that his claws dug into his palms, and small droplets of blood dripped onto the floor. I walked over to him, and grabbed one hand. His figure tensed slightly, but he didn't argue as I unclenched his hand.
"We should keep looking around." I said. Ulric didn't say anything. He only nodded, and unclenched the other hand.
Everyone looked at each other, and silently agreed to leave the room. We left the room, and together we walked down the hallway and began to explore the rooms. Course, we only found more classrooms. However, we stumbled upon one room that was of interest....a theater room.
"Whoooaaaa! A movie theater! Awesome!" Kokichi said, eyes lighting up. Lilac reacted the same way, smiling widely. It was a nice theater too. It had dark purple walls, with red carpeted floors and five blue chairs with plump cushions. In the back of the room was a huge TV screen, one you'd definitely see at a real movie theater. Kokichi and Lilac didn't hesitate to run to the chairs and each jump on one, bouncing slightly.
"Oh wow, these seats are sooooo comfy...." Kokichi sighed happily, leaning back. Lilac did the same, letting out a happy hum.
"Huh, odd place to have a movie theater." Magane said. "What's not odd about this place?" Kanato said. "Fair point." Magane said.
"Its just weird that there are only five seats. There are seven of us, aren't there?" Crona said. "I'd bet $10 that Monokuma didn't expect this many people to survive." Ulric replied. "That's seems eerily true actually...." I murmured.
"Alright, I'm bored. Next room!" Kokichi stated. With that said, we continued to wander around the area. So far, nothing had been found. We seemed to have found everyone room that was on this floor. "I don't see anything else. Maybe we should stop for now...." I said. "Hold up, what's that room up ahead?" Magane said, pointing to up ahead. I looked as well. It was indeed another room, but it had a golden plaque above the door, and it said, "Our True Selves"
"Our True Selves? Odd thing to call a room." Kanato said. "I wonder what's inside. Let's take a little peek~" Kokichi said, rubbing his hands evilly and smiling mischievously. Lilac took initiative and opened the door for us, and one by one we each went inside. However, what we found was kinda bizarre. It was a really small room, with a simple table in front of us. On the table were two green crates. One was filled with different folders, and the other was filled with black tablets.
"What the heck....what is this?" Ragnarok said.
"I'm not sure...." I murmured. Lilac walked over to the crate with the files and took a random one out. She opened it, and her eyes lit up. She immediately showed us the contents....showing the file was filled with papers and information on Zack. "Whoa, is that Zack?" Ulric said. Kanato took the folder and read through some of the papers, eyes slowly widening.
"This seems to be Zack's profile, with all sorts of information on him. His real name, his background....his crimes. Everything." he said. Magane quickly snatched another folder from the crate and opened it. "Yeah, here's Nagito's folder. A student of the Hope's Peak Highschool, and known as the Ultimate Lucky Student. Was once a Member of Despair, whatever that means." she said.
"Okay, but why does Monokuma have these all here? And why in the world would he just leave them out?" Ulric said.
"As a motive." we looked to Crona, who looked down sadly.
"Whoever reached to the fifth floor would find out all these secrets. Dark secrets that would make them suspicious of each other. Possibly triggering a murder." he explained. I frowned. "That would make sense. But I figured our Monopads had all the info of us. But maybe those only showed a fraction of who we were." I said.
"It makes more sense why this room is called Our True Selves. But I wonder, what's the crate filled with tablets for?" Kokichi asked. Ulric walked over to it, and took one out. "Huh, they seemed to be labeled. I guess this tablet here is mine." he said. He turned it on, and a video began to play, but we couldn't see the screen. As he watched the video, his expression morphed into one of terror. Immediately he dropped the tablet, which hit screen first onto the floor, and he scrambled back.
"W-What the fuck?!" he stuttered. "What's wrong? What was on it?" I asked.
"I-It was my motive video. From when this stupid killing game started!" Ulric exclaimed. My eyes widened. "What?! T-That can't be! Don't we all still have our motive videos?! We all kept the tablets that had them!" I said.
"Maybe he kept copies of those videos. Copies that were free for others to see." Kanato said. "But why would he do that? What would be the point of showing our motives? Unless....they are also secrets that are wanted to be kept." Magane said. "It's very possible. I wouldn't doubt it." Crona said.
"Man, this place is filled with all sorts of crazy, fun twists! I gotta say, this is my favorite floor so far." Kokichi said. "Shut the hell up, will ya...." Ulric growled.
"You know, I was thinking. If all our secrets and stories are here in this very room....why don't we share them?" Kokichi said. We all looked to him with wide eyes. "What?! Why in the world would we do that! Would that not only pin suspicion among ourselves?!" Kanato demanded. "Would it?" Kokichi said.
"Let me put it this way. Sure, maybe some of us in this very room have very dark, disturbing secrets that they wouldn't let anyone find out about them. However, if we willingly share our darkest sins, this'll prove that we can trust each other with anything, no matter what our past might've been. Thus, we won't have any reason not to trust each other, or to create suspicion among us. Does that not sound reasonable?" Kokichi explained. We all looked at him surprised. I mean, I suppose his logic wasn't completely false, but....if anyone found out about my sins...I'd never be forgiven.
"Look, I'll even go first to share my secrets, just to show nothing is wrong." Kokichi looked through the files first, and picked out one. Then he opened it, indeed revealing many papers on his background. "Feel free to read till your hearts content." he said with a wide smile. We looked at each other in hesitation. But eventually Ulric walked over and snatched the file, reading through the papers.
"Kokichi Ouma. A member of the 53rd killing game in the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles. Known as the Ultimate Supreme Leader. Has never commit a murder in said killing game, but has indeed cause much mayhem, including manipulating other players into killing each other. Is also known to never be trusted, and creates as many lies as possible." Ulric read aloud.
"What?! D-Did you actually....make others kill each other?!" Crona said. "Nee-heehee, yep, that was my handy work! Although, I did eventually get killed myself. Which was why I was surprised I ended up here." Kokichi said. "That's actually true. It even says here, he was killed by someone named Kaito Momota. However, it seems that you had planned your own murder and make this guy kill you." Ulric said. He glared at the boy.
"Now why the hell would you do that?" he growled. "Long story short, I had my own plan, and it went to shit. But anyway, now that you've looked at that," Kokichi grabbed a tablet from the other crate, and held it out, "go ahead and take a peek at my motive video."
Magane grabbed the tablet and turned it on. Soon a video on it began to play, when a little Monokuma appeared on the screen.
"Hello there, Kokichi Ouma. Welcome to this fun survival game I have created! Now, of course, I did give you a motive video in the other killing game you were in, but I have a different motive for you here. Wouldn't be fun if it was the same motive. So, here what I was thinking. Everyone knows you died in the last killing game you played in. But you never got to see how it ended, did ya? You don't know if the remaining survivors died or not. So, if you manage to kill someone, I'll tell ya how your game ended. See ya later!" with all that said, the video shut off.
"That's it? That was your motive?" Ulric said. "Hey, I did want to know how it ended." Kokichi stated. But anyone, he sat on the table and smiled.
"But anyway, there you have it, every dirty secret I have. You're welcome. Now....why don't we take a look at yours?" he wore a wide, evil grin. It was like he knew he had our grasp on us. It was more like we didn't have a choice but to reveal our secrets, or he'd do something far worse.
".....very well." Kanato didn't hesitate to go to the crate and grab a folder, and handed it to Kokichi. The boy chuckled and grabbed the folder, opening it up.
"Kanato Sakamaki. Vampire, obviously. Went to school at blah blah blah. Has five other brothers, including his two triplet brothers. Is indeed a rich, snooty kid. Seems to have had a bitchy mother. But I guess she got what she deserved, because he burned her corpse when he found it. Many Sacrificial Brides were offered to him and his brothers, and each one he harassed, killed, and turned them into wax figures. Yeesh, and here I thought I was bad." Kokichi read aloud. Kanato looked away, a shadow casting over his eyes. Lilac looked at him with shocked eyes.
I mean, I knew Kanato was never the kindest. But....to have done all that. I can't believe it.
"I wonder what a stone cold vampire such as yourself would have as a motive~" Kokichi chirped, reaching into the crate and grabbing Kanato's tablet. He turned it on, and a video began to play. Once again, a small Monokuma appeared on the screen.
"Hello and welcome, Kanato Sakamaki! I'm sure you're awfully confused about this whole killing game thing. But anyway, this video is to provoke you into killing one of your classmates. So, let's get right into it." Soon, two teenage boys appeared on the screen. They both had red hair, green eyes, and wore a similar school outfit like Kanato. However one of the boys wore a black fedora, and was a bit taller. As soon as the boys on screen were shown, Kanato's eyes widened.
"These are your triplet brother, yes? Ayato and Laito? Now from what I understand, you don't always get along. But you could never hate them, could you? Who could ever hate their own siblings? I wonder....would you be upset if anything were to happen to them?" Monokuma again appeared on the screen.
"If you kill someone, and you get away with it, I might just let these two live peacefully. How does that sound? Don't disappoint me kiddo." with that said, the video shut off.
