Chapter 5: Pt 1
Kokichi's P.O.V.
I sighed, tossing and turning on my bed. Things were pretty dull and depressing after Near's trial. No one said said much during dinner. Course that shouldn't matter to me. I shouldn't give a damn about any of them. In fact, I don't care. I sat up, stretching my arms. I don't feel all that tired. I need to stretch my legs.
I hopped off my bed and left my room. I began to aimlessly wander around the hallways and other floors. I do this almost every night. I always need to walk around before I can fall asleep. However, something in particular kept running through my head, and it bothered me a lot. Something about the latest case....
The moment I heard footsteps behind me, I whirled around, eyes wide and inhaling sharply. However, I immediately relaxed upon seeing the bright, pink pair of eyes staring at me innocently.
"Lilac, geez! What the hell?! Why are you wandering around so late? You scared the crap outta me!" I whined. Lilac didn't react much, except tilt her head, looking at me questioningly. I blinked, and sighed. "I just couldn't sleep and decided to walk around. But now I'm just bored. Say," I looked to her, "you probably can't sleep either, right? Wanna walk around with me?" I asked. Lilac smiled and nodded.
The two of us began to wander around the hallways aimlessly, side by side. She let her eyes wander around the place, her eyes full of wonder. However, I couldn't seem to keep my eyes off her as she took the lead. I needed to ask her something. It was gonna bother the shit out of me if I didn't. "Hey, Lilac, mind if I ask ya something?" I asked. Lilac looked back at me with a puzzled expression, but she nodded regardless.
"....I get you saw Near's clothes in his room, so you knew it was his. But...Violet said you led her there. As if you already knew it was Near's room without even stepping inside. Tell me....how did you know that?" I asked. Suddenly....Lilac's smile dropped. And her eyes seemed to narrow, and darken. It took me off guard, but I only gave her a similar expression. She turned her face away from me, arms behind her back.
".....I saw you." I tilted my head, puzzled.
"What do you-"
"I saw you spoke to Near. I heard the things you both said." she continued. I blinked, and began to think. What was she talking about? I never talked to Near at night, except for that....that one time....
My eyes widened.
Did....did she know?
There was a long moment of silence, neither of us made a movement. My mind was racing with thoughts. Was she serious? Did she really know? I...I can't take any chances. If she knows, and she tells anyone....my plan will be screwed. So, I took one step forward towards the small girl. And then another. And another. And another. Until finally, I was right behind her. I slowly reached my hand out, and placed it on her shoulder. Then I leaned in close to her, and spoke into her ear....
She was silent for a moment, and didn't move a budge. I frowned, and tightened my grip on her shoulder.
"Lilac. I need to know." I stated.
"....I know you're the traitor, Kokichi." she said. I thought so. She did know. This was bad. Whatever I do next....its gotta count.
"Oh yeah? Tell me, you think that's smart of you to tell me?" I asked. I slowly used my other hand to reach into my back pocket. Inside of it....I contained a knife. I didn't want to use it. I never did. But I knew if anyone was to find out, and find out my plan, then they'd get in the way. Otherwise....it wouldn't work. Then there truly wouldn't be any hope.
"I'm not going to tell anyone." I froze, caught off guard by her words.
"....what?"
"I'm not going to tell anyone." Lilac looked back at me, blinking innocently. I looked at her surprised, but narrowed my eyes. "And why should I believe you for even a second? How do I know you're not lying?" I asked. She suddenly put on a wide smile, and turned to face me entirely. "Because, we're all escaping together, aren't we?" she said. I only stared at her, further confused.
"What are you talking about? I'm the traitor. I can't go with you guys. Hell, I'm supposed to keep you here. Hell, if anyone finds out who I am, I have to kill them. Which means I have to kill you. Doesn't that scare you?" I asked. Strangely enough, she actually giggled, and seemed to smile wider.
....I was stunned.
This girl consciously knew who I was, and what I was gonna do to her....and she still wants me to escape with these guys.
"Plus, you forget, Kokichi," Lilac raised her arms to her sides, closing her eyes, "I am a girl who welcomes death." I blinked in confusion before realizing she was waiting on me. Waiting for me to make a move. She was letting me choose. Do I kill her? Or do I trust her to keep her word about keeping my secret?
After a long moment of waiting....I slid the knife back in my back pocket, making sure my shirt covered it. Then I slowly walked past her. She glanced back at me with curious eyes, but then she waved good bye and ran down the hallway. I decided to not look back as her footsteps began to fade away. Instead, I kept walking in the opposite direction.
Lilac's P.O.V.
I quietly returned to my bedroom, closing the door behind me. I was glad to see Violet was still asleep. If she saw me leave the room, she probably would've been worried if I left so late at night. I walked to the bed and carefully laid down, letting out a quiet sigh and closing my eyes, drifting off to sleep....
However, suddenly my eyes felt irritated, as if a bright light had shined upon them. I attempted to open them, and see the source. My eyes when they adjusted to the brightness....and a bright glowing figure stood at my bedside. There was no telling who it was. Whoever he figure was didn't seem to wear anything, or even have a face. I only saw a golden, slim figure, glowing in our small room. This glow....it looked so familiar. I saw a similar glow like this before, on the night of the third class trial.
"Young one...." It was the same voice too. A woman's voice. Once again weak and strained. Before she had called out for help. But I cannot imagine what she needs to be saved from.
"Please...there is not much time, and I am very weak..." the figure said. I sat up, and nodded, making sure to stare right at this ominous creature. "Beware....beware the child with black inside. Beware the malicious bear. Beware, young one, protect your friends. Or there shall be no hope...." her voice began to fade away, and the glow began to disappear. My eyes widened. Instinct took over, and I lunged forward, grabbing for her outreached hand....
But I fell onto the floor with a thud, feeling a sharp pain in my shoulder.
"Lilac, are you okay?" Violet asked. I immediately sat up and looked around. I was once again in my room. But it appeared to be morning, and I laid upon the hard floor. "Were you dreaming or something? You must've, or you wouldn't have fallen off." Violet said. I placed a hand on my shoulder, rubbing it a bit. I guess it was a dream. Or perhaps a vision even. Or maybe even a warning. But then...who sent me this vision?
The usual 'ding dong' sound rang out, and Monokuma appeared on the TV that's in the corner of our room. "Rise and shine, boys and girls. Time to get another day on the move. So get to it!" Monokuma stated before the screen shut off. I looked down, deep in thought. I can't seem to shake off that dream. What did it mean....?
"Lilac, you ready to get something to eat?" Violet asked. I looked to her. She wore a smile, but her eyes seemed darker then usual. Course, she always had that look on her face after a class trial happens. I put on an even wider smile, and gave a firm nod.
Violet's P.O.V.
We quickly got ourselves clean before heading down to the cafeteria. Lilac didn't hesitate to swing open the doors and greet everyone with a smile. It seemed everyone was present. All seven of us.
Magane put on a wide smile. "Morning guys! Did you sleep okay?" she asked. I shrugged. "I guess." I murmured as I sat down next to her. "Well, today is a new day, isn't it?" Ulric said with a smile. I nodded.
"I guess that's true." I said. Lilac didn't hesitate to sit next to Kanato and hugged him tightly. He let out a slightly choked sound before looking at her slightly annoyed, then sighed in defeat. "Good morning to you, Lilac." he muttered. He slowly raised his tea cup to his lips and took a sip. Crona giggled. "I guess she's in a good mood this morning." he said.
"I don't get why. Didn't we just lose two more of us yesterday?" Kokichi replied, sounding bored while taking another bite of his food. Ulric narrowed his eyes at him. "You sound disappointed about that." he said, in a lower, threatening tone.
"That's cause I am. This case was waaaaay more boring then the last one. Not only did we solve it easily, but not as many people died. But....I guess it was interesting to see that look of fear on Near's face." Kokichi replied, a wicked smile slowly growing across his face. Ulric growled, and was about to stand up, but I gestured for him to sit down.
He looked at me, but with one begging expression he sighed and sat back down. It's obvious Kokichi gets under his fur a lot. But fighting isn't going to get us anywhere right now. Mello already proved that before. Same with Rin and Zack.
"Attention everyone. Considering your victory at successfully completing your fourth trial, I have decided to not only give you one, but two rewards! Aren't I just generous?" Monokuma said on the speakers. Kanato raised a brow.
"Oh how lucky we are...." he muttered sarcastically.
"Hmph, rude! Anyway, you will now gain access to the fifth and final floor of the academy. In addition, on the fifth floor....you will find the secret to the outside world." Monokuma said. That made all of us perk up. "That's right. You'll all know what secret Mello and Near died for. So I guess there deaths won't be completely in vain. Anyway, happy huntings, kiddos!" with that the speakers shut off.
"The secret...to the outside world?" I murmured.
"Yes! Finally, we'll find out where the fuck we are!" Ulric stated. "How do you know its about our location? It could be anything, couldn't it?" Crona said.
"Okay, I guess that's true. But at least this'll be information we can use." Ulric said. "If this info really was of value, he wouldn't reveal it to us. Not unless it either could be used as a motive or simply to crush our hopes." Kanato stated. That made everyone freeze, and really think. Kanato could be right. It may be just something to destroy us from the inside, and make us give up on hope.
"Whelp, either way, I wanna go exploring up there! So let's go take a peek!" Kokichi stated. Without any hesitation he hopped out of his seat and sprinted out of the cafeteria. Lilac released Kanato and followed him, making Kanato look at Lilac with wide eyes. "Lilac wait, come back!" he demanded. But Kokichi and Lilac were already out the door.
"Kuso!" Kanato muttered, and stood up to run after the two. I did the same, following him. "Lilac hold on!" I called out! "Violet matte! Wait a minute!" Magane called. She began to run after me. "Hey, wait for me!" Ulric called out and began to followed us. Crona did the same, struggling to catch up. Soon all of us were rushing to the fifth floor, unsure of what to expect. We had to run up many flights of stairs to get there. First to the second floor, then the third, and finally the fourth. When we reached the final stair case....most of us were laying on the floor, and we were all panting like tired dogs.
"Fuck...I never realized....how tall...this place is." Ulric said in between breathes, tongue hanging out like a dog. "You had to....run like that....Kokichi." Kanato said breathlessly.
"Sure I did....it was fun." Kokichi breathed out. He looked to the fifth floor with a wide smile.
"Now to see what this next floor offers us. One, two, three..." he began to count as he skipped up each step. We all trekked behind him, barely having the strength to climb anymore. However, when the we reached the top, we all froze. Honestly, it looked very nice. It had dark purple hallways, with carpeted floors in the color of red velvet. The ceiling seemed to be made of glass, giving a very blurry vision of the outside world. All I could make out from it though was darkness. There seemed to be many rooms to explore. There was also a lot of well known art hung on the walls. Mona Lisa, Starry Night, The Scream....but each one featured Monokuma.
"....okay, am I the only one thinking these paintings are awful decor?" Ulric muttered. "Absolutely horrid." Kanato said deadpanned.
"Makes sense though. That bear does seem full of himself." Ragnarok said, popping up from behind Crona. "Yeah, but aside from the paintings....I think this is the nicest looking floor yet." Crona admitted.
"Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I really like it...." I murmured. It was strangely mesmerizing to look at. "That's not why we came up here for though. We need to look around and see if we can find any clues. Specifically that secret Monokuma was talking about. Even if its a stupid motive or a trap, it doesn't feel right to leave it be." Magane said.
"She's right. Let's look around." Ulric said. Lilac darted her head to one hallway, and bolted down it. My eyes widened. "Lilac! Not again! Come back!" I called, running after her. I struggled to catch up with her. She has always been faster then me. I didn't have time to look at every room as I ran past several doors. It didn't feel right to leave Lilac alone.
However, she suddenly stopped abruptly, and stared at a door in front of her. I skidded to a stop, panting heavily. "Dammit Lilac....what exactly were you doing?" I said. She didn't respond, but instead slowly rose her hand to the door knob, and opened it. As she did, I noticed the sign on the door.....
It said 'Secret to the Outside World'
My eyes widened. I didn't care if we had found it so easily or not. I quickly stepped inside with her and looked inside. However, we only came upon a completely empty room, with one window at the far end. The window was covered by red curtains. Lilac and I stepped closer, almost attracted to it. Without a moment to waste, we both grabbed one curtain and ripped them off. By that point, I could hear footsteps behind me.
"Violet, Lilac, what did you find...." Ulric asked, but trailed off. The footsteps slowly came to a stop. We all just stood there, and stared....stared at what the outside world had to offer. If you could even call it the outside world.
"What....what is this?" Crona murmured.
"I-I don't understand. Is that.....space?" I whispered.
