Chapter 1: Pt 1
It was late as it was, so we all hesitantly agreed to get some rest and pick off the search where we left it the next day. When I arrived to my dorm, I made sure to have Lilac stay in as well. Maybe we had a mutual agreement to work together, but that doesn't mean any of those people were safe to be around. So I didn't want Lilac out of my sight.
Lilac pouted at her, but ultimately didn't have any real arguments about it. The actual dorms didn't seem too shabby. A large bed near the far left, a couple of drawers, a closet that had quite a few extra clothes, and even a small shower at the right side of the room. The only uneasy thing were the iron plates boarding up the windows, and the security cameras staring at us.
Lilac was happily bouncing on the bed like a child while I was locking our door. It would seem they locked from the inside, so I made sure to keep that in mind. In the rules, Monokuma had put up a curfew at 10 p.m., but the rules didn't specify that we had to stay in our rooms during night, meaning we could wander around the school at night. And that worried me if anyone really was to plan murder, so I wasn't taking any chances.
"Lilac, stop bouncing on that bed." I said as I turned off the lights and walked over to the bed, siting down on it. Lilac nodded and laid down, pulling the covers over herself. I did the same, laying my head on the pillow. However, I didn't feel any warmer. I still felt ice cold. The same feeling I felt the moment Monokuma announced the killing game.
I was trying to cling onto hope, but the more I thought about our situation, the grim I felt about it. I suppose my only real motivation is my sister.
I felt a hand on my shoulder, and turned over to face Lilac. She stared at me with her bright, vivid eyes that almost seemed to glow in the dark. She wore a reassuring smile. One that was filled with hope. It's strange, she hasn't seem even the slightest bit scared since we got here. Not of the others, and not of the killing game. I wonder how she can keep her hopes up like that. I wish she'd tell me.
"Goodnight Lilac..." I said. Lilac nodded and closed her eyes, snuggling into the blankets. I smiled, then tried to do the same. I'm not sure how she manages to have such hope, but I guess I'll have to have it to. I'll need it to protect her, after all.

The next day, we had gathered in the dining hall to have a small meeting and have breakfast. We all waited until everyone got their food before we actually began.
"Okay, so cough it up. Who got those weird Monokuma chips?" Zack said, taking a bit from the oatmeal that he was eating. Magane shot her hand up.
"I have them!" she stated. Everyone perked up.
"You do?" Rin said. Magane giggled, taking a bite from the banana she had. "Nope. That was a lie." she stated, making everyone groan in annoyance.
"Can we kill her first?" Amaimon asked. "Not funny, dude!" Rin stated harshly, but Amaimon ignored him.
"Okay, who really has those Monokuma chips?" Ulric asked. Strangely, the room remained silent. I blinked, puzzled. Why wasn't anyone saying anything? Doesn't someone have those chips? "Does....no one have the chips?" I asked. Junko growled, ripping off a piece of bacon she had with her teeth.
"Hmph, guess Monokuma was lying about that shit." she muttered. Near frowned slightly, raising his hand to his hair as to twirl a strand of it between his fingers.
"Or perhaps, one of us here is lying." he replied. I looked at the boy puzzled. "What? Why would they not tell us?" I asked.
"Why else? So no one would know they have access to the weapons right down that hallway." Near stated, gesturing to the one nearby. My eyes widened and I looked over at it, reminded of the trophy case filled of different weapons. If someone is hiding those chips....could they be planning something already.
"Say someone is lying," everyone turned to Nagito, who narrowed his eyes at Near, "what shall we do about it? Do you wish to search us? Perhaps search our rooms?"
"That would be the logical thing to do. However, I understand if anyone feels uncomfortable with that suggestion. So, if anyone does feel uneasy, then please speak up." Near stated. Everyone was silent. No one was foolish. That was Near's trap. The first person to object to searching our dorms would be suspected first. So if someone was lying about having the chips, their best option would be to keep their mouths shut.
"Very well, then after breakfast I shall have Mello and Zack search the dorms. The rest of us should continue to re-examine the academy, make sure we did not miss anything important." Near stated. Zack shot a glare at the pale boy.
"Oi, since when do you get to tell me or anyone here what to do? Who put you in charge?" he stated. Near merely moved his gaze to Zack, his black, soulless eyes peering at him.
"Do you have a problem with me taking charge? Because from what I've seen thus far, no one else has raised their hand to do so." Near replied. Zack growled, getting up from his seat and walking around the table. "I'm only saying that I'm not some damn tool. You don't get to use me as you please. I'm only agreeing to work with you guys because I'm not dying in this shit hole. Got it?" he said, continuing to walk to Near until he was towering over the boy. I couldn't help but watch nervously.
"H-He's not gonna hurt Near, is he?" I thought. Near's expression remained unphased, and didn't even look at the man beside him.
"....well, N-Near is a detective." we all glanced at Crona, who looked up at us from his tablet. "H-He's the successor of a world famous detective called L, and has solved many cases, including one difficult one about a murderer called Kira. T-That's what it says in his profile, anyway." he said.
"Did you believe I was trying to assume control because I wanted to?" Near said, looking up at Zack. "I am only doing what I believe is logical and necessary for our survival. So, with my knowledge as a detective, I believed I was most suited for deciding what to do." he replied. Zack was suddenly silent, seemingly speechless.
"However, if you still believe I should not be in charge, then you have the right to choose someone else for the task. Assuming anyone else even wants to do so." Near said. No one said a word, for the same reason too. No one else did know what to do.
Only Near had an idea of how to survive.
Zack sighed in defeat. "Fine then, I'll check the damn rooms after I eat." he said, then walked over to his seat. For the most part, everyone was dead silent after that. I had glanced at Mello, wondering if he had any arguments against searching the rooms. While he did have a frustrated expression on his face, he also remained silent. But why though?
* * * *
After breakfast, everyone once again spread out to search the place, but in different groups in different areas. Only Mello and Zack left on their own to inspect our dorms for the Monokuma chips. I had asked Near earlier why he chose those two to look. He replied that Zack was the most honest and that he knew Mello too well for him to get away with any lies.
I had read more about Mello before the search, and to my surprise he was actually a fierce rival to Near. They were apparently fighting for the spot of L's successor, but Near had barely beaten him. Could that be why he's so lenient to help Near? Maybe he believe Near knows best? Still though....
Anyway, by the end of the search, we again met up in the gym as planned to make our reports....but there was no real progress.
"Great, so we only came up with the same shit as yesterday. Totally not a waste of our time." Kokichi said, placing his hands on his hips. Ulric growled slightly, placing a hand at the back of his neck.
"I'm telling ya, there's no way outta here. Not the way we want to anyway. This place is boarded up too tightly." he stated.
"What about the places areas that are sealed off? Do you think Monokuma will ever let us in those places? Do you?" Rena asked. Johannes sighed.
"I doubt it. Those places are cut off from us for a reason. My guess is that we have to do something to unlock those places, and from what I've gathered from that damn bear, whatever he wants us to do wouldn't be good." he stated. Rin growled, pacing around impatiently.
"So what now? We just suck it up and rot away here forever?" he said.
"No. Our best option now would be to wait. We'll do what Monokuma wants us to do for the moment, continue living in this place for a little bit. Eventually, he'll let his guard down, and we'll make our move. However any hasty moves right now would be too dangerous." Near stated.
"Great plan, Sherlock. Why don't we braid each others hair till he decides to join in? God, this fucking sucks!" Junko stated, placing her hands on her hips and huffing in frustration. The gym doors opened, and Zack and Mello entered the room.
"We searched all the dorms. We didn't find anything that looked like Monokuma chips. Guess Monokuma never gave out the chips like he said he would." Zack stated.
"And we're just supposed to take your word for it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are a serial killer, aren't you? How do we know that you aren't hiding the chips yourself?" Amaimon asked. Zack narrowed his eyes at him.
"I may be a serial killer, but I am not a liar. I never lie. I can't stand lies." he stated harshly. I looked at him surprised. I never expected someone like him to be so blunt and honest. I wonder why?
"It's true though, we didn't find the chips." Mello replied. "Could someone have hidden them somewhere else in the academy?" Crona said.
"But we just searched the place twice now. Wouldn't someone have been able to find them by now?" Magane said.
"Ugh! You're all boring me to death!" We all jumped at the voice, and looked to the stage. Monokuma suddenly popped out of the trap door on the stage and plopped onto the podium. "Geez, I'm getting sick of this. Sure I see the occasional argument here and there, but otherwise you guys are just wandering around aimlessly like a bunch of clueless zombies! It's boring me to tears!" Monokuma whined.
"Oh boo-hoo, poor thing. How about a I give ya a knuckle-sandwich to shut you up?!" Ulric snapped, clenching his fist tightly.
"I wouldn't advise that. Anyone who tries to harm me, Monokuma, will be severely punished. Any who, that's not why I'm here." he stated.
"T-Then why are you here?" Crona asked nervously. "I've come to put some spice into this soup to make it tastier! Ehem, if you look to your tablets, you'll notice each of you has been sent a very special video." Monokuma explained. Everyone perked up, and whipped out their tablets. There was indeed a notification in the corner of my screen.
"These are special motive videos. They can contain anything that may be your worst nightmare. The life endangerment of a loved one, a dark secret you want to kept quiet, a life threat towards you, all that juicy fruit! You can share with the class, but I doubt any of you will want to. So, dive right in!" Monokuma stated. Mello looked up at Monokuma and snickered.
"And say we don't want to watch them?" he said.
"Ooh, smart ass alert. Well, I guess you don't have to watch'em, but here's the thing bud," Monokuma said, pulling out a remote controller, "I have this magic device here where if I press it, these weird devices called guns pop out and shoot you into oblivion. Cause of this, people tend to do what I say, so you might just wanna pop some popcorn and enjoy your personal movie." he explained.
I was filled with dread, beyond nervous of what was on my video. What did Monokuma....find out about me?
I swallowed nervously, and almost simultaneously, everyone pressed play on their videos. On my video, Monokuma suddenly appeared.
"Heyo, Monokuma here! Nice to see ya Violet Tsukune! Great to have ya here in this exciting killing game! I imagine you must be terrified of this whole thing! Especially since not only are you in danger, but your precious sister as well!" he said. I narrowed my eyes, clutching onto the tablet tighter.
"Well anyway, that's not the point of this video, so let's move along shall we? Tell me, are your pants on fire? Cause man have you said a huge lie!" Monokuma stated. I blinked, puzzled. What was he talking about?
"I'm talking about yesterday, dummy! Everyone admitted whether they've commit murder or not....but you lied. You said you haven't killed before, riiiiight~?" My eyes widened. How....how did he know that was a lie? No, doesn't matter....he doesn't have any proof.
"I know all about that little event that happened when you and Lilac were just wittle girls. You two were so precious....so how could you have done something so horrible? You sly bitch, we're you just pretending to be kind to them this entire time? Not only that, but you traumatized your own sister into silence, even after all these years." Monokuma continued. I let out a shaky breath, feeling my blood freeze. My God he does know.....how....?
"I wonder what the terror on Lilac's face looked like? Let's just see, shall we?" Monokuma said. It took me a second to realize what he meant before the footage began playing.....footage of that night. Footage that I didn't even know existed......
It was definitely that night. The screams. The blood. The fear on Lilac's face.....
Monokuma suddenly popped on the screen again. "Tomorrow, at exactly twelve in the afternoon, these will be posted to everyone. Meaning everyone will see your sin, Violet. How can you prevent anyone from seeing this video? Simple, just kill someone. That's all for now. Bye bye!" and with that, the video shut off.
By this point I was a trembling mess, and my eyes were wide with fear. Panic had struck my heart like an arrow. My mind was racing with paranoia. If the others see this.....if they see this....I can't let them see this.
"Everyone watch their video? I'm gonna go with yes, since everyone looks close to shitting their pants." I finally pulled my gaze away from the screen to look around. It was true. Everyone's eyes were wide, their skin turning pale, and some even had trembling hands. The only one who looked calm was Near, and even then he had a slightly uneasy expression on his face.
"Great! Now that that's done, let the killing begin! Hope you all sleep well tonight!" Monokuma replied. With that he hopped off the podium and disappeared again.
No one said a single word.
No one made a single movement.
We only stood there.....hopeless of what to say or do.
