I Missed You
Lindsey stood up and composed himself a bit. He walked over to his daughter and wife then bent down. "Sweetie, why don't you go to your room. I'll take care of mom."
"Is everything okay daddy?" Fiona said as she looked up at him with her big brown eyes that were shimmering with unshed tears.
"Go to your room and I'll come talk to you later, okay?" Lindsey trying to keep his voice from breaking.
Fiona didn't like the sound of that but she nodded her head. She stood up and hugged Lindsey then left the closet and walked to her bedroom.
Lindsey's tears returned; he gently lifted Stevie from the floor and carried her to their bed. He tucked her in then he took off his shoes and climbed in next to her and hugged her from behind.
He cried himself to sleep.
An hour later Stevie woke up and noticed she was in her bed, Lindsey's arms around her and his hand resting on her belly.
She began to sob again as she remembered what happened with Kristen.
Lindsey woke up feeling her body shake.
"Steph?"
She unwrapped his arms from around her and turned to face him. So many emotions played across her face.
"How could you do this to me Lindsey? After all we been through in the past you do this shit to me now! And for what! A midlife crisis you were going through!" Stevie said her voice rising.
"Stevie...I...didn't...It doesn't make it right but, I was so drunk. I don't even remember that night and I don't remember her." Lindsey said as he cried too. "Kristen said all I had to do is pay child support and she'll leave us alone. Please angel! Forgive me! You know I love you with all my heart. I would never have done that to you if I was sober. I didn't know what I was doing. Please Stephanie, forgive me."
Outside of Stevie's and Lindsey's bedroom door, Fiona was listening to everything they were saying. She had just wanted to check on her parents; she didn't mean to listen but now she was glued to the spot.
Stevie was sobbing so hard she was having trouble breathing. She sat up on the bed and pushed Lindsey away as he was tried comforting her.
"Stevie please. Breathe angel, breathe." He said.
Stevie felt the baby kicking inside of her; the baby didn't like Stevie's distress. She held her belly as she concentrated on her child.
Stevie calmed her breathing down then looked into Lindsey's eyes. "I want you to leave." She whispered, no emotion in her voice.
Lindsey's eyes were wide then he gave up. "Okay, I'll leave you alone now. I'll sleep in the guest bedroom."
He stood up to grab some clothes to take with him to the guest bedroom, he reached for the door when Stevie spoke up.
"No. I want you to leave this house."
Fiona was quietly sobbing. This couldn't be happening. She turned and ran to her to call her sister.
Lindsey turned around, tears streaming down his face. He walked to Stevie and got down on his knees and held her hands in his. "No, Stevie please! Don't kick me out. I love you! I want to talk this through and get through this!" He kissed her hands then kept repeating. "I love you."
Stevie had stopped sobbing and just stared at the man she loved, the man that broke her heart.
She pulled her hands away and pushed him away as she stood up. "Fine. You sleep in the guest bedroom. From now on, don't talk to me, don't even touch me." She said.
She then left him standing there as she went to the bathroom, she needed to be away from him; she decided to take a bath.
Lindsey hung his head then began to take a few of his things to the guest bedroom.
Fiona called Lily and told her everything she heard. Lily had a few more days till she came home but she quickly convinced Ryan to come home sooner.
They were on the next flight back to L.A.
Fiona then ran to Karen's room.
"Auntie Karen? Can I stay in your room for a while?" Fiona asked in a small voice.
"Of course, come in." Karen let her through the door. "What's wrong sweetie?"
Tears rolled down Fiona cheeks. "My daddy...he...he got another woman pregnant!"
Karen's mouth hung open, "Fiona where did you hear a thing like that?!"
"My mom, she came upstairs and I found her in the closet crying. I didn't know what was wrong because she couldn't speak. My dad found us sometime later, my mom fell asleep." Fiona stopped then continued. "About an hour later I wanted to check on them and that's when I heard everything." Fiona sobbed and lunged herself at Karen and held on tight and cried into her chest.
Karen's heart broke for Fiona and for Stevie. "It's okay sweet girl, I got you." Karen held on until Fiona didn't have anymore tears to cry.
Karen guided her to her bed and laid her down.
"You stay here okay, I'm gonna sneak some ice cream so we can stuff our faces!" Karen said trying to lighten the mood. Usually, Fiona couldn't eat ice cream whenever, she would have to wait till after dinner but Karen decided to bend the rules for tonight.
Fiona sat up a bit. "Can I have chocolate syrup on mine?"
Karen smiled at her. "Okay, but it'll be our secret."
After her bath, Stevie went about her nightly routine. She put on her lotion and coco butter for her belly to help with the stretch marks.
She brushed her hair then she went to Fiona's room to check on her.
"Fiona?" Stevie said as she knocked on Fiona's bedroom door. "Fiona?!"
She turned the knob and went in; she panicked when she didn't find Fiona in her room or bathroom.
"Fiona! Fiona!" Stevie began to yell. She went downstairs to look in Fiona's usual hiding places but couldn't find her anywhere.
Stevie had tears rolling down her cheeks. She rushed to Karen's room.
She knocked on the bedroom door. "Karen, Karen!"
Karen opened the door. "Stevie' what's wrong?"
"Have you seen..." Stevie began.
"Mom?" Fiona said from Karen's bed.
Stevie gasped then rushed to Fiona's side. She hugged her tightly. "Oh my baby! I got so worried when I didn't find you."
"I'm okay mommy, I was just hanging out with auntie Karen for a while." Fiona said. "Um...mom, I can't breathe."
"Oh sorry!" Stevie let go a bit and chuckled.
Stevie stayed with them in Karen's room. When she found out about the ice cream instead of getting mad, she asked Karen to bring her a bowl.
After Stevie ate her ice cream, Fiona looked at her and asked. "Did daddy leave?"
Stevie stiffened. "No, he's...in the studio."
"Mom, I know what he did. I was coming to check on you when I heard your conversation." Fiona said.
Stevie gulped and tears threatening to fall.
She tried to hold it together but lost the battle and she began to sob.
Karen walked over and hugged Stevie.
Stevie leaned into Karen and sobbed her heart out.
After that night, Fiona ignored Lindsey. She was very angry with him and she made sure he knew it.
Lily had gotten home the next day after Fiona's call. She too was upset with Lindsey but she at least heard what he had to say. She was torn between her mother and father. She knew Lindsey loved Stevie with everything he had, but one drunken mistake was enough to turn their world upside down.
Kristen didn't care if Lindsey left his wife or not; she didn't find him attractive at all and she was tipsy and he was willing that night. All she cared about was his child support, and if Lindsey wanted she was willing to let him have visitations with their child.
Lindsey would call Kristen to check on the baby's progress but nothing more.
Stevie wanted to shut down but she knew she couldn't. She had to push through this for her child that was growing inside of her.
She would lay in bed most of the time, not getting up only to use the bathroom and to take a shower or bath. She would sometimes go to her grand piano and sing to her unborn child.
Sometimes she just would just play her piano.
Lindsey tried to win Stevie's trust back everyday he would try but it was no use. He promised he wouldn't give up though.
The only way she would allow him to touch her was when he wanted to feel their baby kick.
Stevie now had trouble sleeping as the baby became more and more active as the days went by. And it felt like the baby didn't have anymore room left even though she still had weeks to go. Her doctor had mentioned this was going to be a big baby and she may not be able to deliver on her own but the doctor promised they would play it by ear and see if she could do this on her own.
She couldn't sleep comfortably either when she was able to sleep; she missed having Lindsey's arms around her as she slept with her head on his chest. She would cry herself to sleep every night.
Lily would visit Stevie everyday; sometimes they would talk and laugh for hours and other times they would just stay quiet. They would lay belly to belly, the babies kicking each other within them; Lily and Stevie would say how the babies were playing with each other.
Lily was now 9 months and Stevie was 8 months.
One night Stevie laid awake crying; Lindsey was passing their bedroom to check on her before he went to bed.
He opened the door and saw her sobbing.
He crawled into the bed with her and wrapped his arms around her.
She didn't push him away; she embraced him missing him terribly.
She turned around and sobbed into his chest.
"I love you Stephanie. I miss you so fucking much it hurts." He sobbed as he kissed her forehead.
"I love you too Linds! I missed you." She sobbed. "Please, stay with me tonight."
"Of course." Lindsey whispered.
Stevie began to calm down and closed her eyes as she held him close. Maybe tonight she would be able to get a good nights rest.
But suddenly her eyes shot open. "Ah!!!" She sat up and pressed her hand on her belly.
"Steph baby, what's wrong?" Lindsey said in a panic.
"I...don't know, it...hurts!" Stevie cried. "I don't think these are Braxton's."
Lindsey jumped into action. "Come on angel. I'm taking you to the hospital."
All Stevie could do was nod as she feared for her baby's life.
