A Surprise!
Back in Stevie's room, the nurses were checking the baby to make sure she was doing well.
Dr. Anderson had gave Stevie a few minutes to rest before delivering the placenta.
Stevie was still having contractions, she knew it was due to the placenta but these were stronger than she remembered. She couldn't understand it.
The baby was now wrapped in a hospital blanket and had a tiny hat on.
"Here you go mommy. Your baby girl is doing great. Even though she came early her lungs are strong." A nurse said as she placed the baby in Stevie's arms.
Stevie smiled down at her baby girl and placed another kiss on her forehead. The baby girl was looking up at Stevie with blue eyes just like Lindsey's and Lily's.
She turned to Lindsey and said. "So daddy, what should we name her?"
Lindsey smiled and replied. "Hmmm...I don't know. You name her mommy."
Stevie looked back to her baby girl and thought for a moment.
She caressed her chubby cheek and said. "Robin. Robin Rhiannon Buckingham."
"I love it." Lindsey said as he kissed her lips.
Then said to baby Robin. "Hi Robin, it's daddy. I'm so glad to finally meet you baby girl."
After a few minutes of having contractions, Stevie suddenly felt pressure pressing down onto her pelvis.
"Um...Dr. Anderson...I feel like I need to push again." Stevie said breathless.
"Alright, let's get this placenta delivered so we can get you to a room in the maternity ward so you can feed your baby girl." Dr. Anderson said. "Mr. Buckingham, could you take your daughter for a moment so Stephanie can concentrate."
Lindsey took Robin from Stevie and sat down on the chair next to the hospital bed.
Dr. Anderson helped Stevie lift her legs up again then said. "Okay, you can push now."
Stevie began to push, immediately she knew something was not right.
But the need to push was too overwhelming.
After a few pushes, Dr. Anderson said. "Oh my god!"
"What is it?" Lindsey said as he stood up still holding baby Robin.
"Stephanie, keep pushing." Dr. Anderson said.
Stevie didn't know what was going on but continued to push. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She took a breather then continued.
Stevie gasped as she felt it; she felt something leaving her body once again but it wasn't the placenta.
Lindsey stood frozen in place staring wide eyed. If he hadn't been holding Robin, he was sure he would have fainted.
A tiny whimper filled the room as Stevie lifted her head and saw Dr. Anderson holding another baby.
"Oh my god!" Stevie sobbed.
Dr. Anderson immediately handed the baby to a nurse after cutting the umbilical cord
The nurse began to work on the baby.
"Why...didn't you let me see my baby?" Stevie asked still in shock.
"Mrs. Buckingham, your baby is having trouble breathing. We are going to take really good care of him. Okay?" Dr. Anderson said.
"A boy?! It's a boy!" Stevie sobbed.
Dr. Anderson smiled a little. "Yes, you have a son. He is a bit smaller than his sister but once we take care of him, then you can see him."
Thirty minutes later, Stevie was now resting in a regular room in the maternity ward.
Once she had delivered the placenta soon after the birth of their son which they still couldn't believe they didn't know that she was going to have twins; Dr. Anderson explained that their baby boy was positioned further back and that he was a bit smaller than his sister; He was hiding behind baby Robin.
Stevie was now nursing Robin trying to keep her mind off of negative thoughts.
They had taken her baby boy to the NICU for observation.
Lindsey was watching his wife nurse their daughter.
In that moment he realized just how lucky he was; so what if he was going to be a grandpa, it didn't matter how old he was. All he needed was his family.
The door opened and a nurse was wheeling in Stevie's baby boy in his little hospital bassinet.
"Mrs. Buckingham, someone wants to see you." The nurse said softly.
Stevie looked over and a smiled spread across her face.
"He's doing really well now. His lungs are clear and has a nice set, I might add." The nurse wheeled him closer to Stevie's hospital bed. "After you are done nursing your daughter, you can feed him. I'll let you all be now." The nurse smiled then left the room.
Lindsey walked over to see his son. He couldn't believe it. He had a son.
He picked the baby up from the bassinet and held him in his arms.
"Hey little man, you were playing hide and seek with us weren't you?" Lindsey whispered.
"Bring him closer Linds." Stevie said.
Lindsey stepped closer and sat by Stevie on her hospital bed.
Tears rolled down Stevie's cheeks. "He's so beautiful."
The baby looked just like Lindsey but with brown eyes like Stevie's and Fiona's.
Lindsey stood up and placed their baby boy in her other arm. He knew she wanted to hold him.
Stevie looked at both her babies in her arms and her heart felt so full of happiness she was sure it would burst.
Her smile faded and her expression turned serious. "Um...Linds...we need to buy another crib! And bassinet! Another car seat! And everything!"
Lindsey couldn't help but laugh. "Well, once we get some rest, I'll ask Karen to go buy what we need."
Stevie nodded and relaxed. She noticed Robin stopped suckling and was fast asleep.
Lindsey pick her up and placed a light kiss on Robin's cheek then placed her in her bassinet.
Stevie right away covered her breast that Robin had been nursing from then pulled down the other side of her hospital gown and began to nurse her baby boy.
It took a few tries but he finally latched on and began to suckle.
"Linds?" Stevie asked in whisper.
"Yes angel?" He replied.
"I want to name him after my grandfather. Aaron. How does Aaron Lindsey Buckingham sound?" Stevie asked with a smile on her face.
Lindsey bent down and kissed her lips. "I love it."
They were quiet for a few moments then Stevie said. "Linds, could you go check on Lily for me? Please?"
"Of course, I'll be right back angel." He said.
"Oh Linds, before you go, could you bring Robin closer to my bed?" Stevie said.
Lindsey gently wheeled the bassinet that baby Robin was sleeping in closer to Stevie then made sure Stevie would be okay on her own.
He gave her a quick kiss then left the room to check on Lily.
Lindsey walked to the nurses station and asked for Lily Banks.
They told him the room number and once again it was right next to Stevie's.
He gently knocked on the door and after a few seconds Ryan opened the door.
He smiled at Lindsey; he opened the door wider to let him in. He was holding a precious bundle in his arms.
"Hey dad. Come in." Ryan whispered.
Lindsey smiled at Ryan. "So, how does it feel holding your child in your arms?"
"It...feels amazing! I can't put it into words. Although I'm sure you know how I'm feeling right now." Ryan said enthusiastically.
"I do." Lindsey chuckled then he looked over at Lily. His smile faded a bit. "How did Lily do?"
Lily was sleeping.
"She did well...until the doctor told her to stop pushing. This little one right here..." Ryan said bouncing the baby gently. "was breech. They had to do an emergency c-section. She just fell asleep a few minutes before you came. They are both doing great now."
Lindsey walked over to Lily and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. He then turned turned back to Ryan and asked. "How's my grand baby?"
"She's doing good. Her mommy fed her right before she fell asleep." Ryan replied.
"Her?" Lindsey said with a smile.
"Dad, meet Stephanie Ann Banks." Ryan said placing his daughter into her grandfather's arms.
Lindsey smiled down at his granddaughter. "Hello little Stephanie. You are so precious. Your grandma is so excited to meet you!"
Baby Stephanie looked up at Lindsey with her blue eyes just like his and Lily's.
Stevie covered up after Aaron had his fill.
Robin was still sleeping; Stevie caressed her baby boy's cheek. He was slowly drifting off to sleep.
She still couldn't believe she had twins. How could her doctor miss something like this!?
As Stevie now thought about it, it all made sense now. No wonder her belly was so big and when she thought the baby was just an active baby, it was because while one baby slept, the other would be awake.
Stevie placed a kiss on his forehead and said. "Mommy loves you."
Just then the door opened and Lindsey walked in.
"How's Lily?" She asked.
"She's doing great. Well, she's asleep right now but she did good." He replied; he didn't want to tell Stevie just yet about Lily having c-section.
"There's more." Stevie said. It wasn't a question, she knew there was something he wasn't telling her.
Lindsey took a breath. "The baby was coming out breech. Lily had to have a c-section."
Stevie gasped, tears forming in her eyes. "I wish I could have been there for her." She whispered.
"Oh angel, it's okay. Lily is fine and so is our granddaughter." Lindsey said sitting on the bed next to her.
Stevie smiled wide with tears of joy. "A granddaughter!"
"Yep." Lindsey chuckled. "But of course you have to wait to meet her till morning. A nurse took her back to the nursery for a while so Lily can rest. Speaking of rest; let's try to get some sleep while we can."
He reached for Aaron; Stevie gave him one more kiss then handed him to Lindsey.
Lindsey placed Aaron in his bassinet then turned back to Stevie. "Should I call a nurse to take them back to the nursery?"
Stevie shook her head. "No, I want them to stay with us for a while longer."
Lindsey nodded then took off his shoes then climbed on beside Stevie. Even though the hospital bed wasn't that big, they found a comfortable way to sleep in each other's arms.
