Compliments

Be careful with your compliments, whilst they may come from the heart.
Impressed by someone's change of appearance, you feel the need to give them praise.
"You look amazing" may seem positive but what that person surely hears,
Is "You looked sh*t before" they can't ignore, their insecurities and fears.

Tell people often they look beautiful, not just when changes may occur.
Your words will be far more beneficial, making them feel confident not hurt.
We shouldn't wait till someone's different, as this could be the reason they unravel,
Compliments are double edged swords, when their self confidence is fragile.

The purpose of this poem, is really just to highlight how a well meant compliment could be taken another way.  How often do we compliment people of losing/gaining weight, when it means they now fall within societies ideal?  How does that then make them feel when they then gain/lose weight taking them back out of that category?  We should be complimenting on things that truly matter.  Not only when someone changes their appearance, in order to feel worthy of those compliments.
