Chapter 15 - Team Ayumi and Yoshiki

*Ayumi's POV*

The darkening surrounded me, shattering any hope I had of reaching Kishinuma. I vaguely remember crying out to him, hoping he would somehow hear my words.

"AYUMI!!!" A yell reached above the darkening that was already surrounding us, and a glimmer of light appeared around us.

"What?!" The ghost's voice sounded astounded, "That should have killed you... That should have made you go insane! Why didn't it work?! Why aren't you in pain?! Why did you take the chance you were given for granted?!?!" The spirit screeched, "Finally, you were able to escape with your lives and you decide to come back here and get yourself killed!!! Why, why, why?!?!!"

The ghost's form started to become less and less fuzzy, and were able to make out his face.

No way....

"Why couldn't you have taken your chance and never come back? then I could've forgotten about you...... Why didn't you guys wait for me? Why didn't you try to find me?" The boy standing before us whispered while staring at the floor, "I couldn't find Mayu... No matter how hard I looked, she was nowhere to be found... And by the time she told me that she was.... No longer alive... I had already succumbed to the darkening....."

I took a step forward, "Mori-"

"No! Don't say a word!!!" The boy looked up and glared at us, hatred flaring in his eyes, "You don't deserve to say anything... Not after you let her die!"

"I'm so sorry, Morishige..." I whispered softly, "It was our fault... Mayu was just sitting there, talking to the ghosts... And we thought she was in danger... We just wanted to save her, but we ended up killing her instead."

The ghost, Morishige, turned away from us and was silent for what felt like an eternity, before a small whisper broke the silence.

"Did you know I haven't seen her since?" The voice said softly, sadness dripping to the floor like tears, "Did you know that I've been searching for avery long time, but I can't find her? That I can't find the girl that stopped me from doing so many things? That I can't say, 'Thank you for saving me'... Not even once?!"

Morishige turned back around, his ghost glowing an ugly red color, "And whose fault is that?! Mine?! Your's?! This whole, d*mn school's?!"

"Morishige..." I said, my voice barely audible, at a loss for words.

"Morishige, none of this is your fault," Yoshiki replied in a strong voice, "The only one at fault here is Sachiko, and even she never wanted to kill anyone in the first place. You aren't to blame, so get over her death and keep looking for her!"

I stared at Yoshiki, my eyes wide, before scolding, "Don't say such heartless things to him! He's trying to get over his loss!"

"Well you know what?!" Yoshiki's eyes burned with anger, "We struggled for years too! Crying, day after day after day! Mourning the loss of the friends that we had left behind at this d*mned, cursed school!" He continued to rant, "'Know what else?! Morishige had all of these years to find Mayu, but we couldn't do anything but cry and hope that our friends weren't in too much pain!!!"

After Yoshiki stopped yelling, silence filled the hallway. I could understand Yoshiki's anger, his pain, his suffering... But I also understood Morishige, the hurt inside that could never be mended without seeing Mayu again.

"You... Missed me?" Morishige asked, turning his dark silvery-blue eyes to look up at Yoshiki, "You guys really missed me?"

"OF COURSE WE DID!!!" Yoshiki yelled, "WE MISSED EVERYONE WHO GOT KILLED HERE!!! What, did you think we would just FORGET you?!"

"Morishige," I shook my head, "You were one of our precious friends. We wouldn't just get over your deaths and pretend nothing would happen! You should know this!"

Slowly, Morishige's ghost slowly changed in color, morphing from it's crimson red to a more soft, pale blue.

"I see..." Morishige placed his head in his hands, laughing softly, "I now see... That I had such amazing friends... That I should have cherished more when I was alive..."

"Morishige..." Yoshiki walked up to Morishige's ghost and looked him straight in the eyes, "Don't regret anything. It'll just hurt you worse in the afterlife."

"You were our amazingly talented friend, Morishige, and if Mayu could see you right now, she would be so happy," I walked up beside Yoshiki and slid my fingers between his until we were holding hands.

A tear rolled down Morishige's cheek... Before he suddenly stopped, and widened his eyes.

"Your friends are in trouble... Yuka... And some kid I've never seen before. I'll get you two into their dimension," Morishige turned his expressionless face to us, "I won't be able to do anything more than that. Good luck, my dearest friends."

"W-Wait!" I reached out to Morishige, releasing my hold on Yoshiki's hand, "What about you?!"

"Don't worry about me," Morishige turned a slight smile our way, "I'll keep looking for Mayu. Maybe now... I can find her."

And with that, we were sucked into a dizzyingly swirling mass, transporting us to an alternate dimension, where it would be our job to save another two of our precious friends.

Only.... Things would happen that we wouldn't expect.

Terrible, terrible things.
