"Yelena? Are you still there?"

"Yes, love. I'm here."

"I can't see you..."

"I know, but I'm right here, ok?"

"Can you hold my hand?"

"Of course."

You felt a soft yet calloused hand take yours gently, long fingers intertwining with your own.

"I'll be here the whole time, ok? I'm not gonna go anywhere."

"Promise?"

"I promise."

Yelena tried to shove down the incoming cough scratching at her throat. Her eyes burned with the heavy smoke in the air and the flames surrounding the both of you, but she tried to push it all aside as to not worry you.

With every passing second, she felt it getting harder and harder to breath. The heat of the fire made her sweat through her burned clothes, but she didn't let it deter her. She gripped your hand tight and held you to her heaving chest, pressing a kiss to your knuckles with her cracked lips.

Although you couldn't see, you wrapped one arm around Yelena's waist, and brought the other to her shoulder, resting your hand against her cheek. She leaned into your palm, a choked, small sob escaping her drying throat.

"I just want to be with you..." She breathed out. "Just give me five minutes...please..."

You felt droplets fall onto your cheeks, making you frown.

"Don't cry, Lena. We'll still be together."

The flames roared around both of you as a support beam fell from the ceiling, crashing to the floor.

"I don't want to die here..." More tears fell down her face "I just want to be with you, to spend all of my life with you. I wanted to grow old with you! I wanted to get married to you, I wanted to prove everyone wrong! I wanted to prove to them that I could love someone! I don't want to die like this! I don't want you to die like this!" Her voice was cracking along with the flames as they grew closer. She heaved a sickening cough as smoke continued to fill her lungs.

You gripped her hand "you don't need to prove anything to anyone. I know you love me, and that's all that matters." Your head rested against her stomach as you heaved a cough as well.

"I love you so, so much..." She whispered. "I'd destroy the whole world just for you, I'd do anything for you..."

You smiled weakly, lacing your fingers with hers. The engagement ring on your finger shining in the bright orange and red light.

Yelena almost broke down at the sight of it. She held you closer and sobbed into your hair. Her grip started to get weaker as she felt her heart begin to slow when the smoke filled her lungs completely.

"moya samaya lyubimaya, moya dorogaya. do svidaniya."(1)

She shut her eyes tight as both of your bodies fell limp against the burning floor, no longer moving or breathing.

Two entertwinedhands shone against the flames, where two rings sat on each hand.
