Yelena's whole body seemed to be buzzing with nervousness as she held a single rose in her hand. She was waiting on the shoreline of the beach, where she had asked you to meet her via an anonymous note.
She glanced down at the rose in her hand, the thorns prickling into her fingers ever so slightly. She stared intensely, images flashing across her mind of her gripping the rose in desperation, the thorny plant causing blood to run down her palm and onto the sand.
She quickly wiped that imagery away as she heard the sound of footsteps.
She turned, seeing you standing Infront of her with shock written all over your face.
"You're the one that asked me here?" You breathed out.
Yelena nodded hesitantly. Your words, for some reason, filling her with dread.
Your eyes showed clear confusion, before they flickered to the rose in her hand then up to her eyes. "Why?" You asked.
Yelena gulped, twirling the rose in her long fingers and avoiding your eyes.
This was out of character for her, to act and be so nervous. She always said what was on her mind, maybe a little too much, and she always voiced her opinion whether it was wanted or not.
But this time? She couldn't even find the words to what she wanted to say to you.
You grew concerned, looking up at her, trying to meet her gaze with worried eyes.
"Yelena? Are you ok?"
'Fuck.' she thought. The way her name sounded coming out of your mouth was truly angelic. She very much so wanted to hear it more.
Letting out a shuddered breath, she held the thorned rose out towards you. The faint blush on her pale cheeks almost unnoticeable because of the moonlight casting a soft glow behind her, highlighting her tall frame.
You felt your face grow warm before gently taking the rose out of her fingers, being careful of the thorns so they wouldn't prick you.
"Um, thank you, but what is this all about?" You looked up at her, your eyebrows furrowed.
Yelena took her bottom lip between her teeth softly, putting her hands into the back pockets of her trousers.
She let out a sigh before looking you in the eyes.
"I'm not one to drag things out for too long, so I'm gonna keep this mildly simple. I like you, alot. I only just realized, and I can't get you out of my head. It's fine if you don't return my feelings, I get it. I know I'm strange, and maybe a bit of a creep, but I really do like you, and I wanted to tell you just in case I never got another chance." The words flowed out of her mouth like water. Now she was saying exactly what was on her mind.
Your face felt flushed as you processed her words. This was not happening. You were internally screaming.
It was silent as Yelena awaited your answer.
You looked down at the ground, suddenly very interested in the sand underneath your shoes as you stuttered out a response.
"I-I um, I..." You didn't know what to say. The woman that you've had a crush on for over a year, just confessed her feelings for you and you didn't know what to say!.
Yelena rose an eyebrow at you, eagerly waiting for you to say something. She seemed to be subtlety bouncing on her feet, as if she didn't know she was doing it, and you let out a soft laugh because she was being so uncharacteristically cute.
The blonde frowned at the sound of your laugh, thinking you were making fun of her.
You panicked, seeing the expression on her face.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to laugh! It's just, you kinda had an excited look on your face and were bouncing, and it was pretty cute so I laughed!"
Yelena let a small pout come onto her normally stoic face, taking slight offense to being called cute. She was not cute.
You let out a louder laugh at her slight pout "I didn't mean it in a bad way!".
The blonde woman sighed, looking away from you. Seeing you laugh like this was worth her pride, but she still couldn't help feeling offended.
Suddenly, she felt a hand grab her own. She looked towards you again, now seeing your fingers interlocked with hers.
"To answer your statement, Yelena, I don't think you're weird, or creepy. Sure, you have your moments where you come off as a bit unhinged, but that's just who you are, and I'm not going to make fun of you for it. I'd never do that. You're your own person, and you don't need me to validate you for you to believe that. I like you just the way you are." You weren't looking at her, instead you seemed to be looking at the ground, avoiding her eyes.
Yelena felt a small bit of warmth rise to her cheeks as she cleared her throat "what are you saying?".
Your hand gripped hers a bit tighter.
"I like you, too..."
Yelena felt her heart skip a beat. Did she hear you correctly?.
Her breathing wavered for a moment before she spoke.
"You do?"
You nodded "yeah..."
Yelena furrowed her brows "but earlier, when-".
You finally looked up at her "I didn't mean it, and I didn't agree with them, but I can't let my friends know just yet that I like you, since I haven't even come out to them yet."
She nodded in understanding. After all, it took her a long time to accept herself the way she was, and she didn't regret it.
Yelena looked down at both of your intertwined hands, then briefly glanced at your lips before looking away.
"Can I...kiss you?" She mumbled.
You almost didn't catch what she said because she was so quiet, but you did, and it made you shocked.
Taking a few seconds for your brain to process, you slowly nodded, letting out a small "yes."
Keeping your fingers together, Yelena used her free hand to cup your cheek, her thumb resting just below your eye, as she tilted your head up so she could lean down.
Her lips brushed against yours ever so slightly before she fully pressed them together.
Electricity seemed to be flowing out both of your bodies, and it made you and her ecstatic.
Taking a deep breath through her nose, Yelena pushed against you more, now wrapping both of her arms behind your back and resting them on your shoulder blades.
Your wrapped your arms around her neck, pulling her closer, if that were even possible.
You both stayed like that for a few more seconds before you realized you needed to breathe.
Pulling away, Yelena rested her forehead against yours. Never in her life has she ever felt this calm and blissful, not even when she discovered Zeke Jaeger existed.
The thorns of the rose in your hand brushed against the back of her neck, making her shiver, but it didn't hurt.
Taking a deep breath, Yelena let herself smile. A genuine smile.
She didn't regret falling this deep, she didn't regret digging the hole this far.
Because this time, you were at the bottom with her, together, in your own little paradise.
And she didn't want to let go.
