You walked through the grocery store, leaning against your basket as you pushed it through the aisles, Yelena was following behind you to grab stuff off the shelves if you needed it, since she was tall.
Almost the entire store was decked out in different shades of pinks and reds, a few stuffed animals filling up the entire front part of the store.
Yelena stopped walking, and you turned around back at her to see what was up.
"Why'd you stop?" You asked.
Yelena looked around the aisle you guys were in, seeing the horrid amount of red hearts and stuffed pink bears.
She looked like she was going to be sick just from looking at all of it.
"The hell is the store so decorated for? Is it a memorial for someone?" The question she asked was genuine, as if she really didn't know what was going on.
You gave her a dumbfounded look. "You seriously don't know what all this is for, or are you just fucking with me?"
Yelena shook her head.
You sighed "do you know what Valentine's day is?" You asked.
Yelena shrugged "I've heard of it, I just assumed it was a memorial for some dead woman". The look you were giving her made her scrunch her eyebrows "was I wrong?".
"Uh, yeah! Have you never celebrated it before? Not at school when you were younger, or with your parents, maybe even an ex?!" Yelena closed her eyes and shook her head.
"I went to a Christian private school, we didn't celebrate anything other than Easter and Christmas, since those honored God and shit, my parents were the same, and I don't have any exes besides the boys I dated in like, 3rd grade when I didn't know I was gay. So no, I've never once celebrated this...whatever it is."
You let out a grumbled sigh, and took out your phone, typing into your search bar.
" 'Valentine's Day, also called St. Valentine's Day, holiday (February 14) when lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. ... Valentine's Day did not come to be celebrated as a day of romance until about the 14th century.' " you read the article out loud to her. "Basically, people who are in love express that love through gift exchanges, such as chocolate, flowers, and other stuff like that. Not everyone celebrates, or they don't have anyone to celebrate with. But this is a good opportunity! Now that you know what it is, we can celebrate and get eachother gifts!"
Yelena raised an eyebrow at you. "What do you mean? Don't we get eachother gifts all the time?" She was so confused.
"Well...yeah, but this'll be different!"
"How so?" She asked.
"I don't know! But it's understandable if you don't wanna do it, after all, my gift will probably be better than yours anyway." You turned away from her, a smirk coming into your face as you set the challenge.
Yelena grabbed you by the shoulders and turned you around "oh hell no it won't. I'll get you the best damn gift I could ever buy. You'll be so amazed, you won't even know what to say." Her voice was serious as she looked down at you, her eyes determined to prove you wrong.
You crossed your arms and smirked up at her.
"Prove it. We have until Sunday to find the other the perfect gift."
You held out your hand, a cheeky smile on your face.
"Deal?"
Yelena shook your hand, her grip tight.
"Deal."
~~~
You searched around your room, pulling out drawers and looking under the bed.
Yelena stood in the doorway of your shared bedroom, raising her eyebrows at you in confusion.
"What the hell are you doing?"
You flinched and crawled out from under the bed, hitting your head against the wooden frame.
"Ow!" You held the back of your head in pain.
Yelena walked over and rubbed the sore spot on your head, helping you up off the floor.
"You ok?" She asked, a worried look in her eyes as she looked you over.
"Mhm, just fine" you said, rubbing your head a bit more.
"What were you doing under the bed?" She asked.
"Oh um...where do we keep the gun?"
Yelena kept a gun in the house in case of emergencies. You didn't know where she had hid it, since she didn't want you getting hurt.
Yelena furrowed her eyebrows "why?".
You let out an awkward chuckle "it involves your Valentine's gift, I just need to know what type of gun it is." Yelena nodded her head in understanding.
"It's a semi-automatic pistol." She said, her hands in her pockets.
You smiled at her and grabbed your keys from the nightstand, now preparing to leave. You took Yelena's hand in your own and placed a kiss on her palm, and then headed out the bedroom door.
"Thanks love! Means alot!" With that, you left the house.
Yelena looked down at the hand you had kissed, and smiled softly.
God, you were a dork.
~~~
You stood at the front counter of the gun shop in your neighborhood, looking at the old bearded man who stared at you with a look of disinterest.
"Anything I can get for you, ma'am?" He was rather rude when he spoke, indicating he was either tired, or just an old, old man.
"Oh, I need a few boxes of bullets for a semi-automatic pistol."
He raised a brow "getting it for your husband?" He asked.
You shook your head "girlfriend, actually."
The man let out a quiet scoff, mumbling something under his breath before placing atleast 3 small boxes of bullets on the counter. "Cash or credit?" He asked rather rudely.
You took your credit card out of your wallet, handing it to the man.
He told you the price of the bullets before swiping your card then handing it back to you. He then placed the boxes in a brown paper bag, handing it to you.
"Have a nice day, ma'am."
He was still really rude to you, but you expected it at this point.
You left the gun shop, heading back home.
~~~
On Sunday, you and Yelena sat on the couch facing eachother with small bags on each of your laps.
Yelena seemed to be bouncing a bit in her seat, which was unusual. She seemed almost giddy
"Ok, since I'm the one who came up with the challenge, you can have your gift first" you put the small pastel pink bag in her lap, while she placed the one she already had on the floor.
She took out the folded pieces of tissue paper and put them on the coffee table. She put her hand into the bag and pulled out the boxes, looking at them in shock.
"I didn't want to get you anything cheesy or typical, so I got you something you'd actually like and need."
Yelena looked at the tiny boxes in awe "I love it..." She muttered out. She gave you a soft smile, planting a kiss on your forehead. You looked down in embarrassment, your cheeks flushing slightly.
Yelena put the boxes of bullets next to the tissue paper on the coffee table, and then picked up the bag off the ground.
"Ok, I got you a couple of things that are related to your gift, so as I hand them to you, I want you to guess, but don't tell me".
First, she handed you a small bottle of lotion, then some hand ointment, then a bottle of aloe.
You stared at all three things in confusion "you got me a...doctor's office?" You looked at your girlfriend with a raised eyebrow, not really sure what to make of the things in your lap.
Yelena rolled her eyes "no. Close your eyes real quick and hold out your hands." You did as asked and placed your hands palm up on your lap and then closed your eyes.
You heard Yelena dig through the bag for a second before pulling something out. There was the soft clinking of metal before you felt something cold, and also something soft being placed in your hands.
"Ok, open your eyes now" you heard Yelena say.
You opened your eyes and looked down at your hands, and your eyes widened to the size of saucers.
In your hands lay a pair of handcuffs. The part where your hands were meant to be were covered in a velvety black color.
Yelena took them from your hands with a small grin on her face "you can remove the soft part, if you want to get even more kinky. I took your wrist measurements the other night and had them adjusted so they'd fit you. They're not too big, nor are they too small. They're perfect, like you." She booped you on the nose while you stared at her dumbfounded.
The smile on her face disappeared when she saw you weren't saying anything "do you not like them?" She sounded genuinely sad, as if you had just taken one of her most prized possessions.
You panicked, seeing the small pout on your girlfriends face, her bottom lip sticking out ever so slightly.
You rushed to be directly Infront of her and took her face in your hands, having to sit on your knees to reach her, and squished her cheeks with your palms.
"No, no, no, no! I love them! I'm just a little confused." Yelena tilted her head the best she could in your hands "about what?"
"Why did you buy them now all of a sudden?" You ran your fingers over her undercut and then through her hair, the blonde strands getting messy in your hold.
"I thought we could use a change in the bedroom, and since we didn't have a pair yet, I got you some."
You let a mischievous grin take over your face as you moved yourself to sit on Yelena's lap.
You leaned closer to her face, still smiling.
"Well, why don't we put them to the test then?"
Yelena looked shocked momentarily before grinning too.
"You go lay down, I'll get your handcuffs and the strap." Yelena lifted you off of her lap and put you on the floor.
You chuckled at her, making your way to the bedroom.
Maybe you two should spend every Valentine's like this from now on.
