It was a new year at Yancy Academy and Grover had been sent out to search for demigods at Yancy. He hoped that he could find a demigod from a minor parent, especially not after what happened to Thalia a few years back.
He ended up rooming with a boy named Percy Jackson.
Grover could smell the very strong demigod nature emitting from Percy, among an overpowering human scent.
"Hey, I'm Percy," said Percy. He was unzipping his suitcase.
"I'm Grover," replied Grover, also unzipping his suitcase.
Percy groaned and Grover looked at him, almost a little concerned.
"Damn it, I accidentally grabbed one of my sisters' shirts," said Percy. He was looking at a black shirt with some band that Grover was sure he heard of in his many years of scouting schools.
"One of your sisters?" questioned Grover. He figured that Percy's sisters were at least his half-siblings.
"I have two sisters," Percy explained. "We only have two rooms in our apartment, so my sisters got the room, while our mom and step-dad got the other."
"Where do you sleep?" asked Grover.
"Either on the couch or the floor of their room," said Percy shrugging. "We also share a closet, so their stuff and my stuff get mixed in together."
"Are your sisters coming here?" asked Grover.
Percy nodded like it was obvious, "Yeah. Our mom always told us that we have to protect each other, so..." He shrugged. "It's just us three against the world, if you will."
"I think my parents forgot to pack me something," said Grover. "Do you mind if I go to the office to go place a phone call."
"Go ahead," said Percy.
Grover got to the office and told the receptionist, "I need to make a phone call."
The receptionist pointed to the phone, not even bothering to look up from the magazine that she was reading.
Grover punched in a phone and was greeted with: "Hello?"
"Hi, sir," said Grover, "I found one."
"You did already?" replied Chiron surprised.
"He's my roommate and I can tell that he's really powerful," said Grover.
"I'll be on my way," said Chiron before hanging up.
Grover returned to the dorm that he shared with Percy where they chatted for a bit before the bell, alerting them to head to the auditorium for the sixth grade orientation.
Grover somehow lost Percy in the crowd of students.
"Move it, Cripple," snarled a red-head freckly girl. She shoved Grover, nearly making him stumble.
Grover rolled his eyes. He had dealt with those types of people for awhile so it really didn't bother him.
"Don't call him that!" snapped a black-haired girl. She wore a black tee-shirt with AC/DC on it and had a black bandana tied around her left wrist. She wore black jeans with a ripped knee. Her hair was wavy and she carried a hard-cover book that had a plain black cover. She had a blue-and-white striped backpack with a red anchor on it.
Grover was actually a little touched that someone stood up for him. Usually kids around her age would've ignored him being insulted or tried to fit in by insulting him.
"Oh, I'm sorry for insulting your boyfriend," mocked the red-head.
"He's not my boyfriend," snarled the black-clad girl. "He's just a person that can't help with the way he walks."
"Annie," warned another black-haired girl. Her hair was straight and she wore a denim jacket with gray sleeves and a dark gray tee-shirt, with regular denim jeans. She had a cream colored canvas backpack that had blue lines with blue anchors and blue nautical wheels on it. "Don't get us kicked out on our first day for fighting."
The red-head laughed and followed along with the crowd.
"You didn't have to stick up for me," Grover said sincerely to the girl, apparently named Annie.
"I wanted to," said Annie and turned and went into the crowd, the denim-clad girl following.
Grover noticed that the two had the scent of demigods on them, along with that overpowering scent of human. He shrugged the scents off as his nose still being clogged by Percy.
Getting inside, Grover managed to find Percy sitting in between Annie and the denim-clad girl. Annie had opened up the book and had started drawing with a pencil.
He was slightly confused at Annie drawing by Percy and the other girl, who, Grover using his Satyr hearing, managed to find out that her name was Addie.
Percy and Addie were whispering to each other occasionally. Percy nudged Annie, who apparently ended up making a mistake. Annie glared at Percy, but didn't seem to get to mad.
Percy whispered to Annie who went back to drawing, erasing whatever mistake that she made with a different eraser. Annie went back to drawing. Addie fixed her hood before she slumped down in her seat.
Grover could tell that Addie wasn't paying attention either, just like a few other kids. All that Grover knew about the school was that Yancy was basically a school for rich juvenile delinquents.
"We hope that you enjoy your stay here," the principal finished his speech. "You are now dismissed."
Everyone stood up, Annie closing her sketchbook and put her pencil behind her ear for storage.
They started making their way out of the auditorium, someone kicking at Grover's legs.
"God, can you hurry it up, Cripple? I haven't got all day!" a boy snapped.
Someone shoved him with their elbow and someone tripped Grover, nearly making Grover fall down.
"Hey! Leave him alone!" Percy shouted, shoving his way through the crowd.
"Whatever you say, freak," the red-haired girl from the hallway said, snickering. She shoved into Grover and Annie, knocking Grover down.
Percy went over and helped Grover up.
"You didn't have to help me," Grover said sincerely.
Percy shrugged, "Actually I did. You're my roommate and it's terrible what they were doing and saying to you."
"This school is for troubled kids," Grover said. "And I'm an easy target because of my muscular disease."
"Well, I guess my sisters and I will protect you," said Percy.
Grover wasn't sure how Percy's two sisters would protect him.
It was the next day, when Grover learned the truth. The Latin teacher, Mr. Bernardo took attendance. Percy had chosen a desk that was next to Addie's, who was sitting in a desk next to Annie's. Annie had a book called The Collected Poems of Emily Dickinson and Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. Addie had We Have Always Lived in the Castle on her desk.
After a few names, Mr. Bernardo called, "Evadne Jackson."
"Present," replied Addie. "And please call me Addie."
Jackson? Grover thought, confused. Twins?
The teacher called the next name, "Ianthe Jackson."
"Present and its Annie," replied Annie.
Grover started to panic a little. There were two more Jacksons running around at the school? That wasn't good.
And the next name was called, "Perseus Jackson."
"Present and call me Percy," replied Percy.
Mr. Bernardo gave the three a strange look, "Are the three of you related by any chance?"
"We're triplets," said Addie, like it was obvious.
Grover made a strange choking noise in his panic. This really wasn't good. Twins were fine. But triplets?
The triplets turned and gave Grover a strange look.
"Are you okay?" asked Annie.
Addie had arched an eyebrow in Grover's direction.
"I never met a pair of triplets before," Grover lied. Now that he looked, the three of them had black hair and the same seafoam green colored eyes. Even Annie and Addie had similar facial features.
That spiked Grover's anxiety. Triplets from a powerful god! This really isn't good. He doesn't even know how to protect three demigods, especially three powerful demigods.
True to Percy's word, he and his sisters did protect Grover as much as they could. In a way it was nice that they cared enough to keep him safe, but it was unnecessary.
It was on Saturday when Chiron showed up. Grover went to visit him, because he didn't have enough time to tell Chiron about the triplets.
When Grover knocked on the door to the Latin class, Chiron said, "Enter."
Grover walked in and closed the door behind him. Chiron was creating a lesson plan, and was muttering, "They're a little behind..."
"Sir," started Grover.
Chiron looked up at Grover, "What is it, Grover?"
"It's about, Percy, sir," said Grover.
"The demigod?" questioned Chiron.
Grover nodded and started to say, "But there's another thing..."
"What is it?" asked Chiron.
"He's in a set of triplets," Grover explained. "His triplets are Addie and Annie, or Evadne and Ianthe."
Chiron nodded, now looking a little worried, "I see. That does pose a problem. I should see for myself."
"You don't believe me?" asked Grover hurt.
"I do," said Chiron sincerely. "I just have to see for myself if they really are powerful or if it's their demigod scents mixing together since they're triplets."
"That does make sense," said Grover.
Chiron nodded, "Yeah. Don't worry, you won't fail this time. You still brought back two demigods, which is better than one."
"Except one of them wasn't Thalia and they didn't see it that way," replied Grover rather grumpily.
"You'll do fine this time around," said Chiron, "especially with three demigods."
"I hope so, sir," Grover said, not even feeling reassured as he thought of the many ways that he can fail in his assignment. "I really hope so."
A/N: I picked the name Evadne because there's a myth of Evadne, who was a daughter of Poseidon, who gave birth to Apollo's son, who later founded a family of priests. I picked the name Ianthe because there's an Oceanid named Ianthe, who's the daughter of the Titan, Oceanus. So I picked the names because of the ocean connection to both names and looking like they have a happy ending.
