Chapter 2
A sudden kick to her guts made Donna awake, she looked up to see the general standing next to her.
"Get up you worthless life form it's time for your trial now hurry it up!" He grunted rudely, Donna stood instantly not caring for her sleepy mood. The general shoved her if she went too slow, she noticed with confusion that they were on a different planet. They left the ship and went into a large glacial arena, covenant stood around the top of all sides. With a sudden sickening feeling she noticed a large covenant that looked like he had seen better days, he had many scars from battles and held an energy sword. The general chucked one at her and she caught it with ease, he gave her a nod before going back onto the ship and flying it up onto a plateau.
"As you all know this human is claimed to be the strongest and smartest warrior in the galaxy, I have gathered you all here to test this theory against our strongest and smartest warrior. The victor is the last one standing, the opponent will be killed in order to become the strongest of them all, now let the fight BEGIN!" He shouted, instantly the covenant warrior charged at her. Donna dodged quickly to one side and swung the sword as she went, an angry yell signalled she had given him yet another scar. Donna quickly dodged from side to side as the warrior swung his energy sword at her, it seemed as though he was trying to get her guard down by letting her think he was stupid. Donna pretended to accept that he was stupid then out of nowhere he jumped and kicked out hitting her square in the face, luckily there was good enough oxygen and she could breathe the air as her mask went flying. She landed with a thud and lay there allowing her opponent to think he had won, footsteps stopped beside her and the warmth of the energy sword flooded over her. Donna suddenly grabbed her energy sword and swung up stabbing her opponent straight through the chest, with that she kicked him off the sword and stood ready incase his now lifeless body were to get up and fight again. She walked over and grabbed her helmet putting it back on, both the shipmaster and the general looked surprised.
"It seems we have a victor," the general called, the covenant boo'd in their odd language. Soon after her usual hunter guards came and took her back to her cell, nothing seemed fair to Donna anymore but she didn't care. She felt the ship take off and headed back into space, she heard footsteps approaching her cell. It opened to reveal the shipmaster and the general, it seemed what they were asking was of great importance.
"Since you have defeated our strongest warrior and are now known as the greatest to ever live we offer you a one time only offer, join us in our quest for power or never see your friends again and have your body thrown at them when it is lifeless, your choice really," the shipmaster offered, Donna knew that either way they won. She stood staring at them both through her visor, nothing would make her change sides from the ones she knew and cared for like family.
"Go to hell," Donna sneered, the shipmaster gave a sigh and the general kicked her into a wall knocking her out cold.
*a very long while later*
Donna awoke strapped to a strange mechanism, it had many sharp needle shaped objects attached onto it. She turned her head to spot the general speaking with the shipmaster, only now did she realise she had no armour on only the clothing she wore under it. Donna tried to get free and it caused the two deeply chatting covenant to turn her way, the general whispered something to the shipmaster before walking over.
"You have one more chance to join us before we forcefully make you," the general grumbled, Donna looked away from him without speaking. He gave a grunt before putting his hand on what seemed to be a activation button, instantly the sharp needles jabbed into her arms and legs. Donna gave a pained scream as a strange liquid flowed from the mechanism into her body, she gritted her teeth as she felt her body growing and changing. She felt tears run down her cheeks as the pain grew and grew, she refused to go unconscious as she knew that if she did she would never wake up. Donna gave a half scream half cry as she felt her bones shifting and bonding together, she felt her legs slowly change into a different shape and her fingers bind into four strange shaped fingers. She felt her head also changing and it felt strange and very painful, she gave a scream at the large amount of pain in her body. She spotted the general and the shipmaster watching her as if half expecting her to die, well today she would prove them wrong. Soon a great amount of power also filled her body, soon she stopped changing and her bones stopped shifting and binding together. Donna felt the needles be pulled out as the machine had turned off, the straps were taken off and Donna lay there regaining her strength.
"It seems you are a strong warrior since no one has ever survived this before," the shipmaster pointed out thoughtfully, Donna began to wonder how many others had been tested before her. She stood her body now changed completely, her skin had changed from a nice pale skin colour to a deep iron grey. She sat up looking herself over, only now did she realise what the machine had done to her. It had turned her into one of the elite covenant, luckily her AI was still transmitted into the back of her neck. The general didn't look too pleased at the fact she was now one of his kind, the shipmaster beckoned for the general to bring over the armour which had been placed carefully on a strange bench.
"Now mighty warrior the shipmaster wishes for you to help us win this war since you now have no place to go and no friends to believe you," the general grunted handing her the new armour, its colour was a shiny blackish gold. Donna put it on quickly before knowing the general was telling the truth, she knew she had no other option but it all felt wrong.
"Fine I will help you but I will never join you," Donna grumbled, the shipmaster looked very pleased at this.
"Good and since you wear the armour of our ancient ancestors you will be given the name of arbiter as all the arbiters before you, you know you remind me of the last arbiter that dared wear that armour, he was very brave and loyal to his friends, though we had no choice but to kill him since he betrayed us to join the side of the legendary master chief who won each fight and sacrificed himself to save others, very noble of him yes but also very foolish, he has been missing for so long and since then you were made in his place," the shipmaster explained, it had been nearly five years since the mighty master chief had vanished when the dawn had been cut in half by a slip space portal collapsing. Arbiter knew that if he were to return she would be forced to fight him, she stood her mind now focused on being loyal to her new kind.
"I know of him and have never seen him but if he is to ever truly return I will fight him until my last breath unlike the arbiter before me," Donna vowed, the shipmaster and the general looked very pleased. The general led her away to her own sleeping quarters on the ship instead of the small cell, here he left her to rest after her sudden body change. Omega appeared near her glitchier then ever, Donna gave her a nod to speak.
"How can you betray them like that Donna it isn't right think of your friends and all the memories you guys had," Omega pleaded, Arbiter gave a shake of her head and a sigh.
"Omega look I'm not betraying them I'm buying myself time so I can escape and get back to my friends, it won't be easy with my new appearance but I won't give up" Donna explained quickly, Omega gave a glitchy sigh.
"Suit yourself, since I am your AI I have to help you no matter what," Omega pointed out before vanishing, Donna knew she had to find some way to get her friends to believe her but she also knew they would never let her get even close to them. This war would be a long one, and it was one that would best be left forgotten.
