Chapter Twenty-Two

Another Shit Chapter Sorry

Ochaco's jog came to a halt. She gasped for air and bent over. The smell of ash from the burning forest had finally caught up to her and caused her to curiously turn around. She looked at the fierce flames and the smoke rising into the air and blanketing the sky. She quickly pieced together that Deku was at least one of the culprits in starting the blaze.

She let a breath of air escape from her lips and turned back to the path ahead of her. The many intertwined paths from earlier had led to a single road of dirt. Ochaco was puzzled by everything and trying to make sense of it only gave her a migraine. She began to whisper what she knew under her breath."Deku is fighting for his life behind me, this damn forest is making me discover something about myself, and the only way out if for me to keep walking this way." The thing that worries Ochaco is what lies ahead of her.

.....

Deku propped himself up with his hands and watched as Mushashi marched towards him. The ground below the man caved in with each step and the flaming trees surrounding them began to shake. Blazing leaves fell from the trees and toppled to the ground in sync. A few fell onto the two men while others hit the wet soil below and extinguished.

Mushashi gazed at Deku and the fluffy-haired man scurried backwards the he neared him. His hands sunk into the weak mud and the soil seeped underneath his fingernails. "I have always respected you Midoriya. You're a strong man with an even stronger will, but we know how to break it, if it isn't already in shambles."

"Oh yeah, how do you plan on doing that one big guy ?"

"The same way we did it all those years ago, kill what you love," said Mushasi as he clinched a fist.

Izuku narrowly avoided the punch, however the aftermath caught him. The ground was broken and the force of the blow blew what was below Deku into the air. He was launched with it and the man followed it up with a jab to the gut. Deku was thrown into the surrounding forest and slammed helplessly through a tree. It split at the force of Deku and splinters were sent flying. Mushashi raised an arm and blocked his body from the slender, remains of timber.

Deku's teeth were stained with crimson and his cloak was ripped to shreds. He rolled over on the ground and peeled his worn robe off. He laid on his stomach and cursed through his teeth,"Dammit." He reached an arm out and began to claw himself across the forest floor. His fingers sunk into the soft dirt and with each inch he moved a sharp pain shot throughout his body. Despite the pain he continued to crawl like a wounded animal, but he came to a stop when a foot pressed on his back. Deku let out a muffled yell as his spine cracked.

Mushasi grinned as he applied more pressure to Deku."What happened, did you run out of juice ? No, you're too strong for that." He leaned forward as he increase weight bearing down on Deku." Maybe you just don't care anymore ? After years of hell I can imagine losing her yet again wouldn't hurt that much would it ? Hmm, maybe I'll take her from you this time, cause Baku got all the fun last time."

Mushasi ended his grinding of Deku's bones and grabbed onto a tree. He wrapped both of his arms around its base and pulled it from the ground. The roots tried to fight against his strength but it was too much for them. He walked with the trunk in his arms and held it as high as he possibly could. He looked down at Deku as he rolled over. Their gazes met as Mushasi tried slamming the tree onto Deku.

He moved in a blur of electricity and gritted his teeth with each motion. His body was beaten, but his will be was much stronger. Even after years of tragedy, a few embers remained. Deku caught the base of the tree and held it with both of his hands. Mushashi shot him a psychotic look as he tried to force Deku into the mud with the log. Deku's veins popped, sweat poured from his body, and his muscles trembled. His arms shook from the god like strength opposing him. Deku realized his body was prepared to give out; he had one shot of winning this battle.

His fingers dug into the bark off the tree and deep into the timber. His eyes began to surge with green electricity as he prepared to kill Mushasi. Deku spoke in a struggle."I-I'm st-starting to get real annoyed with everyone bringing her into my problems. I'm the one that fucked up !....Not her, but she's always been the one to suffer." Deku made sure his feet were under him and began to stand up; he was finally gaining the upper hand. The two men were as level as they could be when lighting began to flare in the sky. Deku looked Mushashi in his eyes and promised," First, I'm going to kill you, then anyone after Ochaco, and finally I'ma make sure your Father pays for everything he has done to me. No-one, and I mean no-one- not even Baku will stop me this time !" Deku's threat was followed up by a strike of lighting. The green bolt hammered Deku and he redirected the voltage into the log. The tree caught a blaze and Mushashi was burnt to a crisp.

.....

Ochaco has been chasing the same mirage of a man for ten minutes down a trail, but it had lead her nowhere. She stopped when the voice from earlier called out to her again." You have spent your life chasing the future and yearning for the past, but never appreciating the present. This sin will keep you in this accursed forest for an eternity unless you do right by it." The warning was followed by a powerful thunderstorm. Ochaco whipped her head around and looked up at the beautiful green bolts in the sky.

" I don't get what you're takin' 'bout ! One second it's I love Deku and now this; what the hell do you want me to accept !"

A cool whisper blew by Uraraka's ear."Everything. The truth is like a domino Ochaco, when one reveals itself the rest follow suit.".

.....

Ochaco stopped as an image began to show itself to her. It was a memory straight from her mind, but it seemed out of place. The bright colors contrasted against the dark forest in the midst of the night. Uraraka took a gulp as she gazed to what was unfolding before her eyes. The memory was one of her earliest, however it was one that shaped her into the person she was today. She watched as her younger self was being told one of her father's many stories. The forest was reaching out to Ochaco and pulling on the string of her heart."This was when you first wished you were born in a different time; you always felt out of place as a girl. These stories stirred your brain and made you wish. You wanted to see quirks celebrated and heroes celebrated, and because of this you failed to see what you had, and the people you loved payed for it. You lost your own parents because of a want to use your quirk. Mother and Father left you for the heavens and that has always ate away at you, a guilt that won't allow you to love." Ochaco's breaths grew shaky and her eyes watery. The image in front of her changed to something much more recent. She stared at the picture of Deku standing in front of her with a scowl and his fist raised."You spent years trying to kindle something; that gaping hole in your heart ate away at you like nothing else ever has, but it began to slowly fill itself when he came into your life."

"No, no, no, we aren't like that."

"Lies become the most corrosive when someone convinces themself it is truth. You had nothing for years, just a farm and a simple dream. You hated the prospect of planting, but you did it for your family, that was how you atoned for past sins. But that all came crashing down when he entered your life. Darkness has followed him for lifetimes, but it didn't shy you away, instead it brought you closer to him, and you began to chase after the future with Midoriya. You wanted to be a hero, while he wanted to keep you away from tragedy. Two paths set on a course for destruction, they were both trying avoid the inevitable. You, wanting to be what was not. Heroes aren't around anymore because they all parish at the hands of an all powerful man. Him, trying to keep you from falling six-feet under, but Midoriya knows that isn't possible. Each day you two spend had only inched you closer, and now the annoyance you felt towards one another has evolved into something more passionate." Ochaco watched as the image changed again. The forest was toying with her and she felt helpless."That night under the pale moonlight with him will stick with you for an eternity. That was day you began to feel love budding was it not ? You looked at him eyes you never given any other man. You didn't know til that moment, but the thing you long for the most was a compliment for him. You try to deny it, even now, but you understand what it is-  do you not ?"

"I-I don't !"

"You see Ochaco, you are repeating the mistakes of your past. Once again, you are failing to recognize the present. You push these feeling into the bottom of your heart and the back of your mind. This not out of fear of rejection, but instead the worry he reciprocates the fondness. What you fail to understand is the woman he lost in his arms isn't any different from you. You, You are destined to fall in love with that man til the end of time itself !"

Ochaco dropped her head and pulled her eyes closed. She kept them tight and tried to keep her tears from slipping out. Her knees trembled and her stomach felt light.

"You Ochaco Uraraka have finally accepted the truth despite your best efforts. I can not tell you what lies outside of my knowledge, but history has a way of repeating itself, however there is only one way to find out what misfortune lies ahead." Ochaco raised her head and slowly opened her eyes at a destructive sound. She watched as the forest split apart and the village she caught sight of earlier was unnervingly close. She watched as the moon illuminated it and its ashy remains.
