Chapter 9- Whoyou gon' call? Ghostbusters? Nope, just Logan.

"No dude, for real. They never found their bodies! It's legit," Logan said, finishing his story.

"Then, how the hell does anyone know of their story?" Aiden challenged.

"Aiden, don't question it!" Logan complained. I chuckled at that.

"Yeah guys, have some respect for the dead," Lexi said.

"Thank you— oh, you were joking as well," Logan said after seeing Lexi's face.

"I think you're the only one in this group who believes in ghosts, Logan," I said. For the past half hour, we were walking around an abandoned insane asylum, because apparently it was "haunted". Lately, Logan has been obsessed with the paranormal, so he dragged us out here.

"Nah girl, I believe in ghosts. I just don't believe in cheesy ghost stories," Lexi said.

"It wasn't cheesy," Logan mumbled.

"There isn't even proper signal here," Aiden complained.

"Wow, guys. Thanks for having my back. I'm determined to catch a ghost on my ghost camera, and all you guys can do is complain," Logan said stopping to glare at us.

"Did he just say ghost camera?" I whispered to Aiden in disbelief.

"Oh my god!" Logan exclaimed.

"Sorry," I said.

"Okay, we'll be supportive. How can we help you catch this ghost?" Aiden said. I had to bite my tongue not to laugh.

"I'm just trying to catch it on camera, not physically catch it- that'd be crazy," he said.

"Yes, that'd be the crazy part of this whole thing," Lexi mumbled.

Suddenly we heard a door shutting. We all jumped.

"Oh my god, my EMF meter is going insane!" Logan whispered with excitement. We could hear the door banging non-stop. Okay, that was a little spooky.

"Oh my god, we shouldn't have come here! We're the dumb white people in the beginning of horror movies! I'm not even white! What did I do to deserve this?" Lexi exclaimed, freaking out. We shushed her.

"Okay, this is a little scary," I whispered. I didn't believe in ghosts, but something was going on. The door all the way at the end of the hallway was still shutting and reopening.

"Guys, relax, I think it's just the wind," Aiden said.

"The wind?! Are you crazy, boy?" Lexi whispered frantically.

"Shh," Logan said as he continued walking towards the door.

"Logan, don't go alone," Lexi said and started walking with him.

"You're not coming?" Aiden asked.

"Uh, I am," I said and was standing next to Aiden when the banging stopped. The silence was scarier than the banging. Our breaths were the only sound I could hear. I opened my mouth to suggest we should just go home, when the door banged again. We all jumped, but Logan jumped towards Lexi, knocking her large flashlight to the ground. She was the one on light duty. Great, now we were in complete darkness, and the banging stopped for good this time. I couldn't help it and edged towards Aiden. While my shoulder was touching his and I felt a little safe, I grabbed my phone and turned on its flashlight. Wait, if Aiden and everyone else is across from me, then whose shoulder am I...

I screamed as loud as I could and everyone else screamed as well, probably frightened by my scream (I doubt they could see me). I jumped away and buried my face into the chest of the closest person, who happened to be Aiden. I also managed to keep my phone safe in this process, so A+ for me.

Meanwhile, someone was laughing.

"Guys, I'm sorry! We thought it'd be funny!" a voice said. Lexi finally turned on the flashlight.

"Get off me," I said pushing Aiden away.

"You're the one who jumped in my arms!" he exclaimed. This was so embarrassing.

"Leo, is that you?" Lexi asked. It was one of our high school friends.

Someone else came out from the hallway cracking up.

"Mary! You guys are the worst!" I exclaimed.

"And you have scared off all the actual ghosts," Logan groaned, frustrated.

"When we saw Lexi's tweet about where you were, we had to come by and spook you guys out a bit," Leo said.

"Yeah, thanks for the invite Lex," Mary said, joking. Leo and Mary were twins, and if anyone were to attempt this it would be them, so I'm not too surprised.

"Guys, this is Leo and Mary, aka the twins, from our high school. This is Aiden and Logan," I said introducing everyone. They exchanged "nice to meet yous".

"I can't believe you managed to pull this off. How'd you find us?" I asked.

"You guys weren't exactly quiet," Mary said with a chuckle.

"Lexi, why do you have to tweet about everything?" Logan said.

"As mad as I am about this, glad you guys are here! We haven't been able to meet up this whole summer," I said.

"Yeah, we just got back from our family vacation," Leo said.

********

"You know, I could've sworn our last foster home was haunted, but no one believed me," Leo told Logan. The twins grew up in the system, but had been adopted last year. They were fostered by the same family that adopted them, so Lexi and I had been friends with the two for a couple of years now.

"Because ghosts don't exist," Mary stated.

"Hey, respect people's beliefs, Mary!" Leo said. We all laughed at that. We were seated in the courtyard of the asylum.

"Oh, I have to take this," Aiden said while his phone rang and walked off to the side to talk. I looked over to where Aiden was, and saw that he had finished talking on the phone, but he was still standing there looking away. I got up and walked next to him.

"Hey, what's up?" I asked him.

"Nothing. I uh I just talked to my dad," he said quietly. Aiden never talked about his dad. All I knew was that his parents were divorced.

"I see," I simply said.

"I haven't seen him in a year. He lives in a different state. He was going to come by for a business trip in a couple of days, and we were going to hang out, but I guess he's too busy. It's cool though," he said with a shrug.

"That's not very cool of him," I said. He shrugged again. I gave him a hug. I guess he was as bit taken aback by that, because it took him a while to hug back.

"You good?" I asked after pulling away. He nodded. Quiet Aiden was weird. We walked back over to the group.

"Hey, what were you guys doing over there?" Lexi asked, and her tone was anything but innocent. I gave her a small glare to show I did not appreciate what she was insinuating.

"We were just talking about what an asshole my dad is," Aiden said and explained what happened.

"Babe, do I know it. You're looking at the queen of daddy issues. Abandoning parents are the worst," Lexi said.

"Yeah they are," I said referencing my mom.

"Oh, I'm so sorry guys," I said realizing Leo and Mary were here and they had gone through way worse.

"Don't be," Mary said with a light chuckle.

"Yeah, it's nice to relate. Even though coming from a broken family really sucks, I believe it made us stronger and just better people in general," Leo said.

"Exactly. Plus, now we have two loving parents," she said.

"True," I said smiling at them.

"Man, and I thought not being able to catch a ghost on camera was a bummer," Logan said.
