Chapter 1

San Fransokyo Institute of Technology- Robotics Building

"Nervous Wasab?" Hiro asked of the fellow student who towered over him as they stood in the high ceiling lobby of the high tech building. The small, thin Japanese American youth wore his favorite blue jacket and had black hair that shot out in various directions.

"Course not..." Wasabi swiftly replied, and noticed Hiro's skeptical look.  Wasabi, a powerfully-built African American man with dreadlocks and a headband tugged down the bottom of his trademark green sweater a bit.  "Well, a little," he admitted.  "A lot less than for hero work." He nodded with satisfaction and Hiro smiled in agreement.

Hiro and Wasabi had arrived  five or so minutes ago to wait for their important guests.  They looked back to the row of doors before them and noticed two dark shapes approaching from outside.  A door to the impressive building opened, letting in the cold December air. A woman with a briefcase held the door for the other, they entered, and the sound of their boots on the tiled floor filled the lobby.

The first was a beautiful Japanese woman with long, deep red hair cascading down into an elaborate style. She wore a black and white business suit with a heavy coat, and was quite composed-- almost regal in demeanor.

Hiro And Wasabi immediately straightened their posture a bit in respect without even thinking about it, and blinked in mute respect of her.

At her side was a woman with wide bright blue eyes. She wore a long black coat with an upturned collar, with matching boots, gloves, a cap with ear flaps, and held a woman's briefcase.

Hiro had been anticipating the meeting with the head of the renowned Kirijo Group in Japan. She'd initiated contact by email after learning of his endeavors in robotics, as well as the inventions of his friends. Wary of those who would try to take advantage of his work, Hiro researched the woman's business dealings since becoming CEO, and found nothing suspicious. He emailed back, and shortly after, she decided to call and ask about a meeting.

Two weeks ago- Tatsumi Port Island, Japan- Kirijo Group

Mitsuru was at her desk on a call in her spacious white-hued immaculate office.  Large potted plants  added color to every corner of the room.  Occasional muffled sounds of company activity could faintly be heard from outside the office.  The smell of lavender faintly filled the room thanks to a small jar of liquid with reeds protruding from it on an end table in a corner.

"It's good to finally speak with you, Kirijo-san," said the teenage boy on the other side of the call.

"Yes, myself as well, Kirijo-san," Wasabi added.  He sat next to Hiro in his SFIT lab room on a speakerphone call.

"Likewise, Hamada-san. Wasabi-san," Mitsuru replied, observing the monitor of her impressive PC. On it were images of Hiro and his friends in the SFIT lab alongside their fantastic innovations in robotics and other aspects of the sciences. She clicked the mouse to replace the images with those of Big Hero 6.

"My company generally is fine working with just the Nanjo Group, with no need for other partnerships.  But I'm utterly impressed by the inventions of you two in particular," she started diplomatically, pausing to sip her tea briefly.

"Well, uh- thanks?" Hiro said self-consciously.  He was hopeful, but determined not let his guard down in the face of flattery.

"I've always wanted to visit San Fransokyo, and have some free time as well," Mitsuru said amiably. "Rest assured, I'm not trying to buy anyone out, and I understand any hesitation on your part. But I believe Wasabi-san's laser focused plasma could benefit the Kirijo Group's manufacturing,"

"Mm-hmm," Wasabi replied, also slightly wary. The sound of an ambulance's siren outside rang out clearly, then faded away.  A reminder of trouble happening somewhere in the city.

"I'd like to bring a contract to discuss a possible agreement," she continued. "And share a remarkable innovation in robotics myself, if you're interested," Misturu added.

As soon as Hiro came into contact with Ms. Kirijo, he'd checked in with the others to ensure everyone was kept in the loop. He shared his findings on the research of Ms. Kirijo's business dealings, and the others agreed to proceed with caution.

Hiro and Wasabi made eye contact, and Hiro shrugged.  Wasabi smiled hopefully in return and gestured 'why not?' with open palms.

"A Friday afternoon after everyone's classes are over sounds possible," Wasabi said. He made a mental note to tell the others to have their suits on hand if the worst case scenario occurred, just in case. "Hiro?" he asked.

"That should be fine, Kirijo-san," Hiro replied. "I'll just check in with my colleagues and get back to you within the next day by email with the specifics," he added.

"Thank you, if the meeting were at your robotics building, perhaps I could visit the lab, followed by a brief meeting nearby. Maybe two weeks from now?" Mitsuru replied.

The date was set for the meeting.

And eventually the day had arrived...
