A Call to War

Twenty One Years Ago

The child cried out for its mother as the flames rose around him. The small one room cabin was on fire and it seemed no help was coming. Suddenly, another wave of fire hit the house. The old wooden cabin began to collapse, but before the child could be crushed and burned to death, two arms appeared from nowhere and snatched him from his crib.

The mother ran into the woods with her terrified child in her arms. She knew that the creature following her would eventually catch them, but she had some time to hide her son.

"Shhh. Don't cry my son. Your father will protect you, Perseus." She said as she placed him in a bush. A tear fell from her eyes as she stood up. "Goodbye, my son."

She ran before the creature after her could see her son. "Protect him. Show him his heritage and teach him how to survive in the world we have brought him into. Please." She whispered as she ran. Thunder boomed overhead, as if giving an answer to her plea.

The young boys last image of his mother was of her turning to run away. The boy sat there for a couple of minutes before a roar and a loud scream echoed throughout the woods.

Lightning sparked across the sky and thunder boomed. If someone had been there to look they would have seen the figure of a man wielding a hammer in the sky.

End of Dream

Percy woke up to find he was covered in sweat. "Another damn dream." He muttered.

He looked around the room, not completely sure if he was at home or not. He realized he wasn't. "Where the hell-."

"Hmmmhhhh."

"Oh." Percy chuckled at the girl in his bed next to him. The events of the night before slowly coming back to him.

"They aren't going to let me in that bar again." He said before getting up and heading to the shower.

He stood in the shower, letting the hot water fall down his body. He had been having those nightmares a lot lately. His main reason for hitting every bar he could find. He knew what he was, a demigod. The son of Thor to be exact. First of his kind to ever exist, something that made him powerful.

It also made him a target for the more dangerous kinds of monsters. That didn't bother him much though, he was a viking at heart and he loved a good fight. What he needed now was answers. The questions he had since he was a child still haunted him. Who had killed his mother and why? Why hadn't his father protected his mother? Matter of fact, where was his father. He had never met the God of Thunder personally. Odin was the one he always spoke to and even then it was just in dreams, never actually in person.

The only thing they gave him was information he needed to stay alive and many, many history lessons on the Norse and other pantheons he could possibly run into. He had been taught the rules about what he could and couldn't do. He could live with most of them, they weren't all that strict. There were a few he didn't like very much; something he made sure Odin knew. Just in case anything ever happened, he had warned his grandfather in advance.

After a few minutes of thinking about his father's side of the family, he got out of the shower and headed back into the bedroom. He found the room empty but noticed a note on the bedside table.

The girl had left her name and number, something he hadn't wanted.

"Sorry, not looking for relationships. Just passing through on my journey to someplace I don't know." He mumbled before tossing the piece of paper in the trash.

After getting dressed he walked out of the door, unsure of where he was going. He made it out of the building before walking down the street. He wasn't exactly sure where he was going. He just knew that he had this feeling like he was supposed to head in this specific direction.

Hopefully it would lead him to the next bar.

Line Break

"Any ideas Athena?" Zeus asked.

The Olympians sat in their throne room, trying to figure out ways to win this war. They had managed to defeat the Titan Kronos and his Primordial mother, Gaea, but now they were up against an unknown enemy. An enemy they had never seen the likes of.

"We must send a quest to find the source of this power. There is no other way."

"You mean send more demigods to die because you aren't smart enough to figure out what is coming for us. I think we've sent enough of our children to die for nothing." Apollo argued.

Athena turned her attention to Apollo; her annoying and idiotic half brother. "Do you have any better ideas then oh mighty Apollo? Or are you just going to make some stupid joke and continue to be useless as always, brother." She spat

Apollo smirked, he knew exactly how to get under skin. "Why, now that you mention it. I have may have a friend."

The entire rooms attention was now on him. The silence was was incredible; not even Zeus himself spoke in anticipation of what his son would say.

"We have been looking at this as our problem, but it's really a concern for the entire world is it not?" Apollo asked. Everyone looked at him in confusion. Everyone except Athena who's eyes widened to the size of bowling balls.

"You've officially lost your mind brother. There is no way that would work. They would not want to help us in this. Not after what happened the last time we intermingled our pantheons."

Most were still in confusion, but Zeus and his brother, Poseidon, knew of what she spoke of.

"It is indeed a bold move, but may very well be the reason we survive this." Poseidon offered. Zeus looked lost in thought, his mind moving a million miles an hour trying to think of any other solutions for this issue. But the more he thought the less he could figure out.

"Well then son, what is it exactly you were thinking of? Or more specifically, who?" Zeus asked. His electric gaze bore upon the sun god.

Apollo grinned, this was about to get very interesting. "Well for starters, his name is Percy Jackson and he is a Norse demigod. Quite powerful in fact. He's gone toe to toe with some of our gods in the past. Not Olympian caliber, but he would give even you a worthy fight father."

Zeus raised an eyebrow, a demigod that his son believed could give even himself a worthy fight? There was only one his son could possibly be talking about based off of his daughters reaction.

Intriguing.

"Bring this demigod here. I would like to speak to him. If he is as powerful as you say then we may be in need of his services. Let's reconvene tomorrow and then we will see if this child lives up to this reputation." Zeus commanded before he and most of the other Olympians all vanished.

All that remained were Apollo and Athena.

"You have lost it now brother, merging the two mythological worlds is practically suicide. The last time an all out war almost broke out!"

Apollo rolled his eyes, "Relax sis, I've been friends with the guy for a few years. I'll just pop down to earth and see what I can do. If that doesn't work I'll ask Loki to talk him into it. I've been friends with the God of Mischief for way longer anyway. He can be plan B and pass along my message and give me the whats what and then I'll know if it's a go for this plan. Do I need to remind you that either way we lose? Whatever is coming for us is powerful and has eluded and or killed any of our demigods sent to find what it is. We don't have time to waste on millennia old squabbles. This is the fight for survival of us all." Apollo retorted.

Athena was impressed, and a little annoyed, at her brothers wisdom. His normal happy go lucky jokester personality was gone and replaced with a very serious tone.

Line Break

The world had changed greatly over the past few thousand years. The gods themselves still ruled over humanity; albeit without their knowledge. Very few still worshipped them, but those that did were aware of the cruel nature of this world. Clear sighted mortals had the innate ability to see things beyond the mist; something created to shield them from monsters and the other mythological things of this world.

The Greeks and Roman's had thought themselves to be the powerhouse of the world, but they were mistaken. Other pantheons lived away from them due to their power hungry ways. If contact was made there would surely be war brewing between the factions. And while the Olympians did not mind the prospect of war there were many others who did not want to be involved in such an event. For this reason very few demigods were ever born. This limited their exposure and ensured they did in fact stay hidden.

One example of such a group of gods would be the Norse. They had been hidden away in their home of Valhalla and their few offspring in their native country of Norway. But now, things were changing. An ancient evil was starting to awaken from its slumber and if it was not stopped then the entire world would be in ruin.

Odin refused to let that happen, as it stands the Olympians would be utterly destroyed without his aid. The two pantheons may have always been at odds, but with the fate of the world at risk he had no choice. A hero would need to be sent to them to take charge.

As there were currently only a handful of Norse demigods around he was limited in his choices. There was only one that could handle the task. But was he willing to possibly ensure the worlds devastation by releasing this demigod?

Odin was suddenly brought out of his internal thoughts when a massive figure appeared next to him.

"It is time to decide father. The fate of this world depends on your decision."

Odin took another moment to ponder. The world would be enslaved if he did nothing, but with this choice he may very well release it's destruction. His all seeing ability was not showing him the future. His power was being blocked by something, something even more powerful than himself. The All Father stared off into the sunsetting behind the ocean. He had been meditating on an ocean side cliff for days now. This decision was not something he was taking lightly.

"Send him."

The large man nodded his head before turning to leave.

"And Thor." Odin said.

The God of Thunder immediately stopped in his tracks. He knew what his father was going to ask of him.

"Do you believe this is the correct path?" Odin asked.

Thor was silent for a few moments before he had come to his answer. "It is the only path, father." And with that Thor was gone in a bolt of lightning.

"We shall see." Odin muttered before he too vanished from sight.

Line Break (Again I know but bear with me)

The front doors of the bar suddenly burst off of their hinges as a man was launched through them.

Bystanders walking past could see a glimpse inside the establishment. Inside a man was being attacked by four other men. Many went to call the police, but after a longer look they noticed that probably wasn't necessary.

The lone man held one man's face down against the bar with his right hand, his left hand wrapped around the throat of the second, and the third had just been spartan kicked to the floor. A loud crack was heard as he hit the wooden ground. He howled in pain once he tried to move off of the ground. His back was most definitely broken.

Lifting the man's face in his right hand he forcefully pushed it back down onto the bar. Again, there was a loud crack and howl as the man's face was surely disfigured from the force. The one in his left hand began to whimper before he was lifted in the air and thrown onto a table which shattered the second he made contact with it.

The man scratched the back of his head innocently as he looked at the barkeeper. "My bad man, didn't mean to break your stuff."

The bartender just stared at him with his mouth wide open; unable to form words. His brain wasn't able to form a complete thought at what had just transpired. No human should have been that strong. Although this man wasn't your average looking dude.

His frame was six foot two inches, easily weighing around two hundred and thirty pounds. He was lean and muscular but not overly big. He wore black combat boots and pants. A light blue shirt that fit him just right which allowed his muscular figure to be shown off for all to see. His hair was a darker shade of red; almost maroon looking. The same color as his father. But the most prominent feature he had were his eyes. A dark blue color that seemed to have white sparks flash every few seconds.

No one else came to contest him as everyone slowly backed away from him. He eyes the room, aside from the little scuffle he had just gotten into there was a reason he had come here. He always enjoyed a good fight, but right now his motives were for other, more important things.

He had felt a strange pull toward this place earlier. It was an hour ago when he arrived and in that time all that had happened was some girl decided to flirt with him. She had a boyfriend, who he had thrown through the door earlier, who did not like what he saw. His three friends tried to help, but to no avail.

"That was entertaining." A man spoke from behind him.

Sitting behind him was a guy who looked around his age, but Percy knew better. His hair was long and blonde with sky blue eyes. He had a surfers tan and teeth whiter than snow.

"Apollo."

The sun god smiled, "Been a while my friend. Glad you got my message."

Percy raised an eyebrow, so that was why he felt a pull towards this bar. Then it hit him, this was the same bar he had met the god in years ago. Of course.

"Well, what do you want?"

Apollo rolled his eyes, "Don't act like you aren't happy to see me. We had such fun adventures last time we hung out bro."

Percy frowned, "Getting into a fight with multiple gods and monsters would be fun if you they weren't actually trying to kill me on the regular. You basically had me go on a suicide mission. If it weren't for Poseidon I would have died on that fucking island. Also your father was one of those gods trying to kill me the whole time."

Apollo just shrugged, "Probably, but you have to admit it was a fun time. And see, now you have a cool story to tell."

"Sure."

The god sighed, "Fine, I do need your help. Well, actually we need your help."

Percy already didn't like where this was going.

"Define we." He asked, getting slightly angry at the thought of who his friend was talking about.

"Olympus."

"You mean Zeus."

Thunder crackled over head, but the son of Thor nearly rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, pretty much. Something is coming and we aren't in a position to actually do anything other than send our children and none of them have come back from their quests to discover what is coming. We can risk anymore of them. You are the only one capable of handling this kind of thing."

His temper was starting to act up. "And? Why should I give a shit? We literally just had a conversation about how your father wants me dead. You think I'm willing to fight for him? Fuck that." He growled before going to leave.

Apollo stuck his arm out in from to stop him. "Please my friend, the whole world is at risk. We may not be any where near the best suited to rule the world, but we aren't as bad as the alternative. Here is the time and place to be as well as directions as how to reach it." Apollo said before snapping his fingers. A small envelope suddenly appeared out of this air and floated into Percy's awaiting hand.

Percy had to agree with that, there were some truly evil deity's out there. The Olympians may be useless and even spiteful at times, but at least they weren't trying to enslave or destroy the human race.

"I'll think about it. But don't ask again. If I decide to do this I'll let you know." He stated as he walked through the front door and tucked away the directions to Olympus. The people outside still standing there gawking at him. He ignored their stairs and walked down the side walk toward his apartment. Thunder booked off in the distance. He chuckled, knowing how weak the boom was he could only assume it was Zeus causing the noise. His father would have made the ground shake without even trying.

Finally arriving at his home he entered. "Finally, I can relax." He muttered as he went to sit on the couch.

Just as flipped the light switch a loud crack of Thunder shook the building. Just at it sounded off his father stood in the middle of his living room. Dressed in his usual armor and war braids stood Thor, son of Odin, God of Thunder, Lightning, and Strength.

"I don't get to have a break do I?" Percy asked as his father smirked.

"Breaks are only granted when something great has been accomplished. Have you not learned anything from your years of training my son?" Thor countered.

"I suppose you are right. As much as I love hanging with you pops, what is it you want? I may be your son, but gods don't just pop in without needing something."

Third smile vanished, replaced with a solemn look. "Ragnarok is coming, it's time for you to pick a side. Your friend Apollo spoke to you of a power rising. These two instances are one and the same. Odin has spoken, you are to help the Olympians."

Percy's eyes widened, this was happening sooner than he thought. He was only twenty-two. He had been hoping he would at least have been able to have a somewhat normal life before the world started to end.

"Yes father, Odin's will shall be done."

Thunder shook the building once more, Thor vanishing as it did.

"Well, get ready Olympus. Shit is about to get ugly."

A/N

This is not technically a new story, just me re-writing an old one that sucked really bad. Refer to story description so there isn't any confusion. Thanks for the support though. Starting to seriously get back into this. Weird that I started this account almost a decade ago.
