A Very Lumity Christmas

Luz walked down the halls of Hexside, wandering around, not in at all in a rush. It was about seven in the morning, and class didn't start for another hour. Luz just needed to get her mind off of something.

Luz's phone buzzed so she pulled it out to see what the notification was for. It was a text from her mom. The message read: "Two more days until Christmas! I wish you could be here. Miss you Mija 💜"

Luz had ended up telling her mom everything that happened around the end of summer and where she was because she couldn't just leave her mother in the dark like that. Mrs. Noceda freaked out a bit, and asked quite a few questions. She calmed down a bit after seeing Luz do magic, seeing that Luz could protect herself.

Luz smiled a bit, then replied: "miss you too, wish i was there 💙"

Luz put her phone back into her pocket and sighed. She couldn't bear the thought of missing Christmas with her mom. She didn't want to miss the food, the decorations, the joy of giving and recieving, or her mom. It was something she never wanted to happen, but there she was, days away from missing it.

She walked around the halls a bit more, then sat down outside and played some Candy Crush to pass sometime. She was getting far into the game, and was determined to pass her mom.

As more students arrived at Hexside, Willow and Gus greeted Luz. Luz had a feeling of relief inside. At least she had Willow and Gus to be around.

After they all said hello, Gus pulled something out of his bag. "Luz, look at this!" Gus had a doll in hands. "I finally found Large Larry!" Large Larry was another action figure from the same series as Beefy Bob.

Luz laughed a bit. "It's beautiful, Gus."

The three of them talked and joked for a bit until the bell rang for class. Willow stood up from the bench she was sitting on. "Time for class, see you guys at lunch," Willow gave a quick wave before walking down the hallway to her Plant Coven class.

Luz waved back as Gus left for Illusions and Luz went for Abominations. Luz went into the Abominations classroom and took her seat next to Amity. The two were partners in Abomination class, which for Amity was amazing because she got to be with her crush, and Luz enjoyed it because she got to be with her friend.

After the teacher had finished his lesson, he let the students work on their abominations and do homework. Amity looked at Luz. "Would you like any help with your Abomination?" Amity had been working on not turning into a complete gay mess when interacting with Luz.

Luz, who had been lost in thought, was a bit startled. "Oh um, sure."

Amity noticed that Luz seemed a little off. "What's wrong?"

Luz sighed. As much as she tried to hide it, Amity could tell something was wrong. Not wanting to lie to Amity, she told her why she was upset.

"Oh, that's not great... but um... what's Christmas?" Amity was confused because the Boiling Isles didn't really have any holidays.

"Oh right, I forgot the Boiling Isles doesn't do the holidays on Earth, well Christmas is a day that you spend with the people you love, and you make good food, set up decorations, and exchange gifts!" Luz got a bit more enthusiasm when talking about Christmas.

Amity had a small gay panic when Luz said that you spend Christmas with the people you love. "Oh- wow, that sounds amazing. Too bad you can't do that here..." Amity let out a small sad laugh under her breath.

Luz paused for a second before an idea popped into her head. "Amity what if we did do Christmas here!" The bell rang, for students to move along to their next class. "Come to the Owl House after school, I'll explain more there!" Luz hurried off to her next class while Amity was left sitting there.

"O-okay!" Amity nodded. Anything she could do to be with Luz, she would do it.

Luz was sitting down on the couch inside of the living room of the Owl House. She was waiting for Amity to come over. After a few minutes there was a large noise, like someone was in pain. Luz opened the front door with her four glyphs in hand, ready to strike. But, it was just Amity, glaring at Hooty, who was beat up.

Amity noticed Luz and looked up quickly, hoping that Luz didn't hate her. "Aheheh... he was bothering me."

Luz let out a small laugh, which was a relief to Amity. "Hooty will be fine, c'mon!" Luz grabbed Amity by the hand and pulled her inside. There was an angry 'hoot' from Hooty.

"Alright, so uh, what's the plan, Luz?"

"Okay, so I was thinking, what if we did Christmas for the baby class at Hexside? We could bake treats for them, decorate their classroom, and give them gifts!" Luz was excited about this and really wanted it to work out. If she couldn't celebrate Christmas at home, at least she could give others the gift of Christmas.

Amity smiled. Luz was the kindest, most caring person she knew. "I think that'd be a great idea, how can I help?"

Luz was glad Amity offered help because she needed it. "Great! Okay, so first I need help with baking stuff, because they need lots and lots of treats, then I need help decorating their classroom, and help picking out gifts for them!"

Amity nodded. "I can do that! But Luz, how much will that cost?"

Luz facepalmed. "Dangit! I forgot about that! I don't have any money and Eda needs the money for herself!" She sighed. "Guess this plan is a bust..."

Amity thought for a moment. She didn't want Luz to be sad, and the plan she had was really sweet too. "...what if I asked my parents to pay for this? I'm sure they'd agree if I said it was for extra credit."

Luz at Amity, then practically leapt off the floor and hugged her. "Thank you thank you thank you! Operation Christmas for Kids is back on track!"

Amity blushed quite hard, almost looking like a tomato. She just gave an awkward hug back. Although the hug was quickly ruined by a buzzing sound from Amity's scroll phone thing. It was an alarm telling her to start doing her homework if for some reason she hadn't done it already.

"I-I have to go, thank you!" Amity quickly stood up and headed out the door. If she wanted her parents to give the money she'd have to practically be perfect.

Luz hurried to the door. "Come back tomorrow!" Luz wasn't sure if Amity could hear her, but Amity gave a thumbs up to Luz, signalling that she heard. She only said that because Luz didn't have any classes with Amity the next day.

The next day Luz went to school at her regular time. She had gotten a text from her mom earlier about how it was Christmas Eve and how she missed Luz. Luz replied back wishing Mrs. Noceda a good Christmas Eve and saying she missed her too. Luz also realized that she and Amity didn't have much time left. From after school to the night, they only had roughly six hours.

As the day went through, it was finally time for lunch. Luz sat with Willow and Gus, and Amity was in the library, getting through her homework, and asking her teachers for later classes for the homework early.

"Do you guys wanna come to my house after school today? I got the Beefy Bob premium collection!" Ever since Willow had shown Gus a video of people animating their Beefy Bob figures to fight, Gus had been obsessed with them.

"I would, but Amity and I have to go do something after school. Remember the Christmas thing I told you guys about on Earth? We're trying to do that for the baby class here."

Gus was interested in that. "Oooo can we help?"

Willow was just thinking that Amity is gay.

"Sure! If you can get us permission to do the stuff, that'd be great!" Luz was happy, everything was going smoothly.

Willow nodded. "We can try."

Luz waited by the door, just to make sure Hooty didn't get beat up again. Amity arrived with Edric and Emira.

"Amity! What did your parents say?"

"They went along with it when I brought up extra credit, and I got Ed and Em to come help us."

"Alright, great! We have stuff to bake here, but we need enough time to get all of the shopping done. Edric, Emira, can you bake the treats? I have a list of what to do in the kitchen."

"Uh, sure I guess," Emira replied.

"Can we eat the-" Edric's want for treats was ended by Emira hitting him in the arm.

"We'll try not to take too long, byee!" Luz and Amity went out the door, and on to the Boiling Isles' equivalent of Walmart.

"Alright, first let's get some decorations," Luz grabbed her phone to show Amity pictures of what the lights looked like. "Here are some pictures of how we decorated my house back home, isn't it beautiful?"

Amity nodded. Something about how nice the lights looked as well as how simple the concept was was mesmerizing to her. But as Luz was scrolling, there was a photo that didn't have the beautiful colored lights. Instead, it was young Luz, sitting on some creepy person's lap. "Who the hell is that!?"

Luz was confused for a second before laughing. "He's a Christmas tradition back home! His name is 'Santa', and basically he delivers the gifts to children. He's not real of course, but it's fun to believe in him, especially when you're really young."

"Oh, okay. He looks kinda creepy though... glad we don't have that here," but, this remark gave Luz an idea. Luz looked at the photo of Santa, then back at Amity. She kept looking back and forth until she stopped and looked at Amity, with a small mischevious smile on her face.

Amity was confused for a second before realizing what was going on. "No. Luz, no. I'm not dressing up as him."

"Please? It'll be so much fun for the little ones!" Luz started chanting quietly. "Do it, do it, do it."

Amity sighed, then gave in. "Fine, I'll do it..." Amity didn't really care if the kids would like it, but if it meant Luz would smile and be happy then it was well worth it.

Luz gave a small cheer before they went around the store and got some LED lights and a makeshift Santa outfit.

"Alright, now for the gifts... hmmm... Amity, do you have an idea of what they like?"

Amity paused for a moment. She didn't really know, most of her time with the children was just her reading to them. "Er... not really..." an idea popped into Amity's mind. What if we just get all of the toys here? It's only two aisles of it. No, I can't, mom said no more than fifty snails. C'mon Blight, do it for Luz, you can just pay for it out of pocket. "What if we just got everything? It'll be paid for, and it's only two aisles."

Luz's eyes lit up. Everything was going beyond perfect. "Oh wow! Thank you so much Amity! The kids are gonna love this!"

After the two finished checking out, and Amity's wallet was emptied, they managed to carry everything back to the Owl House, with the help of a few abominations of course.

"Alright, we don't have much time left. Edric, Emira, are the cookies ready?" Luz was starting to load everything up onto a small cart.

"Yes ma'am, fifty of them," Emira replied.

"Would've been sixty but we got hungry," Edric chimed in. "They were quite good."

Luz chuckled. "Glad to hear that, just put them in a container and we'll be ready to go."

Soon Luz and Amity made it to Hexside with their Christmas filled cart. Outside there was the teacher of the baby class, smiling and waving to the girls. "Please, come in! The room is ready for whatever you need to do. You know, it's quite nice of you two to do this."

Luz smiled back. "Thank you! And it's really no trouble at all," Luz went into Hexside, with Amity following right behind her.

As the two entered the classroom, Luz and Amity unloaded the cart. "Alright, you divide the presents to each desk and I'll put up the lights, the cookies can be put on the teacher's desk for her to give out."

"Yes I can do that!" Amity proceeded to take the toys and perfectly place each and every single toy, just to impress Luz.

After about thirty minutes, all of the lights were set up, and all of the gifts were placed.

"Wow... it's beautiful Luz..." Amity watched as the red, white, and green colors bounced around on the lights.

"Yeah... I'm really glad we were able to do this Amity, it really means a lot to me," Luz slid her arms around Amity's left arm and hugged it, slightly blushing.

Amity blushed hard enough that her face was a deeper shade of red than the red on Ritz crackers boxes. Then, she slowly lowered her head sideways to have it resting on Luz's shoulder. "I am too."

It was Christmas Day and Luz was waiting outside of Hexside for Amity. Luz and her mom had already wished each other Merry Christmas, and Luz had shown her pictures of what they did with the classroom.

After about ten minutes Amity showed up, wearing the Santa outfit. "This beard is really itchy, do I really have to wear it?"

Luz laughed. "You don't have to wear it until they come. It looks great!"

Amity blushed. "Heh... thanks."

Amity was sitting down in a chair, with Luz sitting on the floor, both of them were waiting for the children to come. Shortly after, the kids were lead into the classroom by the teacher.

"Merry Christmas!" Luz exclaimed, only to get puzzled looks from the children. "Ohh, right, gotta explain what Christmas is to you guys."

After Luz finished explaining what Christmas is to the baby class, she pointed to Amity. "And that's Santa themself!"

Amity slightly panicked when all of the kids rushed over to her, all of them hugging one of her legs, mainly because that's only how tall they were. "Uh... ho ho ho?"

The kids cheered and then realized that there were toys and games on their desks. One of them asked: "Are they for us?"

Luz smiled before telling them that they were for all of them.

At the end of the day, after seeing all of the kids' faces light up with joy and excitement, opening toys and games, and eating cookies, Luz and Amity stayed to help clean up. The teacher was outside making sure every student was with their parent(s) or guardian(s).

"That was really nice Luz, seeing all of the kids open gifts and stuff."

"Yeah, although I'm sorry I couldn't get you anything Amity. If there's anything I can do for you to make up for this, please tell me. It meant a lot to me, so thank you."

"Don't worry about it, it was worth it," there was one thing Amity wanted to ask though, but she didn't have the courage to ask.

"You're amazing Amity, thank you."

Luz and Amity went back to cleaning up the room, but left the lights up. As they finished and started to head out, Amity found the courage to ask.

"Actually Luz... there is one thing," Amity looked down at the ground and blushed.

"Yes?"

"Um... will you um- you know uh-" Amity looked at Luz and just spat out everything she needed to say. "Luzwillyoubemygirlfriend?"

Luz stood there a bit in shock. She was at a loss for words.

"You mean a lot to me Luz and I don't know what I'd do without you."

Luz felt a bit of relief. She was developing a crush on Amity and the confirmation that Amity liked her was a huge relief. She nodded and blushed.

Amity blushed too, but smiled. They linked hands and walked to the Owl House, holding hands the entire time.

The End
