Student Tours

Stephen

I waited at the front of the school for the two new students that I would be showing around the school. The school had me and some other students showing around the school all summer. I had signed up to do the last few tours that nobody wanted.

This was the last one of the year, a week before school started again. Both were fifteen, a year younger than me, and close to being late. Then a familiar car pulls up, the Odinson car pulled up and dropped off a dark haired boy with a dark green shirt and black jeans.

"I'm Loki Loufeyson." The boy greeted.

"Stephen Strange." I greeted back.

We stood there in silence as we waited for the other person to arrive. Then a car of someone who obviously had money pulled up and a kid who looked like he hadn't slept in days stepped out of the car holding a Starbucks coffee.

"Hi, I'm Stephen." I greeted.

"Ehh," The kid groaned. "'M Tony."

"Okay then." I say. "Let's go inside."

I lead them inside and began touring them around the school. The school used to be a train station and the school consisted of both the station and the depot of the building. I honestly prefer being in the station because it was the much more beautiful than the depot.

I kept looking at Tony in both worry and curiosity. Tony looked like a zombie trying to come back to life using coffee. He looked as though he was about to collapse any moment due to sleep deprivation. But to my surprise, he stayed on his feet throughout the entire tour.

"That's the end of it, any questions?" I asked the two of them.

"Why doesn't this school have any lockers?" Tony asked, rather bluntly.

"Because this is an historic sight and the founders of this school didn't want to ruin the beauty of it with lockers." I respond with the same amount of bluntness.

Loki stayed silent, seemingly fixated on the floor tiles. We go back to the front of the school where the Odinson car was waiting, but not Tony's car. So, I decided to wait with him instead of going home himself.

Tony looks at me in confusion but says nothing. We waited in silence for about an hour before Tony says anything.

"Why are you waiting with me? You don't need to." Tony said all defensive like.

"It's alright, I don't really mind." I say in all honesty. "What brings you to STEM?"

"My dad had to move to a less busy place for his work, and I wanted to be in a school that won't be to easy for me." Tony explained. "How about you?"

"I wanted to see what it was like here, and I liked the atmosphere, teachers, and classmates." I respond.

We spent the next thirty minutes, Tony and I talked and got to know each other. I learned that he skipped a year awhile back and now would be joining me in my junior year. Then his car pulled up and Tony left with it. I walked down to the public parking space that the students used throughout the year if they weren't seniors who won a senior parking spot.

I drive home and enter my apartment. My parents emancipated me when I got my drivers license because they didn't have enough money to support me and my siblings. I brought up the idea because I had saved up some money working as a vet's assistant.

He still has the same job, as well as others so that I have enough money to support myself and get an education. I didn't share this information with Tony though, it was something that he would share with them if we actually did become friends.

An hour later, I had to leave to work at a hardware store that was a short drive from my apartment complex. I decided to walk to work so that I wouldn't waist my money on gas.

I arrive at work and clocked in, starting my four hour shift. Each job payed me different amounts. Here, I earned $7.25 an hour, at the ice chalet I earnestly $10 an hour, and at the veterinary I got paid $12.50 an hour. It wasn't much, but it paid the bills. The parents of my better off friends would sometimes give me checks to help me pay my taxes and for my food.

After my shift at the hardware I walked home and drove to work at the Ice Chalet for a few more hours. I was drained, but I worked. I watched as my peers come in and have fun with their friends as I stood behind the counter.

I finally got off work and went home to relax. I immediately fell asleep once I laid down on my poor excuse of a bed. I had a really weird dream, that included a what I think was a kiss with Tony, which was weird because I never thought of a guy like that before.

The last person I had similar thoughts about was Christine, an old classmate of mine, that moves away the summer before highschool.
