More Than Friends
Bucky
Yesterday, I was happy to learn that Steve and I had the same lunch. It would be awhile before we could sign up for genius hour.
We had the last lunch of the day, just the two of us, which I was oddly happy about. Our other friends had the other two lunches together, and I got Steve all to myself.
We weren't even talking, and somehow we communicated so much. Steve was drawing something in his art book, occasionally stopping to eat, while I watched him as I ate. We were sitting outside, and he was probably drawing the tree we were sitting under.
I always thought that Steve looked beautiful when he was drawing, which was odd. I asked other friends if that was normal, and they said that they didn't with a knowing smile. They thought I liked him more than a friend. I don't.
"Bucky." Steve said softly, drawing me put of my thoughts. "Lunch is over, we need to go."
"Okay." I say, standing up and throwing away my trash.
The two of us had the last two classes together, Ancient Literature and Mythology/entomology. We walk up the steps into the station, then up the second set of stairs inside of the building to the second floor.
When we walked into the class, we saw one of our older friends, Pietro, who was sitting next to a dark haired boy, who was probably new here.
"You two dating yet?" Pietro greeted causing Steve to blush, for some reason. "I'm kidding. This is Loki. Loki, these are my friends Steve and Bucky, they are fifteen as well."
"Hi." Loki quietly greeted.
"Are we still invited to LGBT genius hour this year?" I asked.
"Of course you can." Pietro said.
I noticed Loki perked up a little when I mentioned the LGBT genius hour.
"Do you want to join?" I ask him.
"I-uh-yeah. I guess." He stutters. "How do I apply?"
"Well, you have to fill out a Google form before genius hour sign ups and you have to be approved." Steve pipes up, seemingly excited to tell the new kid about the club. "To be approved, you have to be LGBT or prove you are a friend of someone that is apart of the genius hour."
"Can one of you send me the link?" Loki asked hopefully.
"I will." I offer, pulling out my phone. "Can I have your number so I can?"
He nods and I hand him my phone. He types his name and phone number into my phone. He hands me my phone back and I immediately go to send him the new Google form for this year. When he got the text he started to fill it out when class finally started.
"Sorry I'm late, lost track of time." Apologized Ms. Carter.
She started teaching and everyone started taking notes. Well, not everyone. I noticed that Steve was doodling in his notebook, which made me smile.
He seemed at his happiest when he was drawing, even if it was just a doodle. This always made me happy, and I don't really know why, it just did.
I don't think that what I feel for him is normal for me to have towards my best friend. Maybe our friends were right about my feelings.
The only person I could ask for advice on this was Steve, so when I got home I texted him.
Me: how do you know if you have a crush or in love with someone?
He didn't answer me for a long time, probably lost in his work. I didn't mind though. He had a life outside of me.
Steve: You're happy when they are happy. Constant butterflies in your stomach. If they're hurt, you're hurt. You feel everything they are feeling. You watch them do what they love because it makes you happy seeing them happy and content.
Steve: Why do you ask?
Me: Thank you. I have just been questioning a few things lately, and I thought that you could help me a little.
Steve: Okay.
Steve: Glad I could help.
Me: Goodnight Steve.
Steve: Goodnight Bucky.
I flopped back on my bed and let out a sigh. Out of all the people in the school, it had to be my closest friend, my best friend.
