Chapter 16

Jonah had the fire going, the doors to the outdoor area were closed making the room rather warm. I didn't mind, I tended to like it being warm. I snuggled into Jonah, our naked bodies entwined in a post loving embrace. Even though my mind should be thinking about the man who was trailing his fingers up and down my spine, it still thought of the day's events.

"How do you think it went today?"

"Alright I suppose. I don't think they are impressed but strangely I think they understand. Very bizarre. Lucian seems very distant don't you think?"

"Hadn't noticed." he murmured against my head.

"Why didn't Ariella come here?"

"I have no idea nor do I care. Why do you?"

"You said not that long ago that you didn't like knowing what goes on behind closed doors, what did you mean?"

"Ivy." he chastised.

"I'm serious Jonah, is Lucian cheating on Ariella?"

He sighed as he rolled onto his back, confirming his knowledge of what has been going on in my mind. This was wrong, really wrong.

"You know, don't you?"

I sat up, pulling the sheet around my chest.

"He's doing the dirty on her and you think it's ok."

"I never said I approve of his behaviour, remember I said I didn't like knowing."

"Yet you say nothing."

"I am bound by a confidentiality agreement Ivy and in talking to you about it, I've already broken it."

"Would you do that to me?"

"No." he frowned as he sat up to me, his fingers tracing the edge of my jaw "Is this what this is about? You think I'm like him?"

"What I can see is a man that knows of another man's indiscretion and thinks nothing of it."

"You assumed wrong Ivy, I hate what he has done to Ariella, she deserves so much better than him."

He kissed me softly, trailing his fingers through my hair.

"My love is for you only, there will never be anyone more perfect than you and I will never entertain even a thought of someone else."

Slowly he lowered me back onto the bed, pulling the sheet away. His hand toyed with the skin on my stomach, warming under his touch.

"All this loving and yet there is no child. Do you ever wonder why Ivy?"

"I hadn't put much thought into it actually."

"I have and I wonder why? We have sex on a regular basis yet you are not pregnant. Why?"

"Maybe it's not our time yet, maybe our bodies are saving us from an almighty fight with your grandfather." I rolled my eyes "Could you imagine what he would say."

Jonah chuckled as he flopped back onto the bed.

"No grandfather I was not having sex with Ivy, immaculate conception, I promise."

"Aliens did it." I said wide eyed with a crazy grin.

"You were abducted for the purposes of creating an alien and vampire hybrid. It's happening all over the planet, didn't you know?"

"Of course, I did see the little green men Jonah."

I smiled at him but slowly it faded away as reality came back to me.

"Do you want children soon?"

"Yes but I'd like to know why you aren't yet. Look at your parents, your father only has to look at your mother the wrong way and she's pregnant."

"But what about your parents? It's just you and the twins."

"As much as it pains me to know, they actually have their breeding pattern set. You will find that my mother will be pregnant very soon."

I frowned at him.

"You're saying they only do it to have kids?"

"Seriously?" he raised an eyebrow at me "No, I said breeding Ivy. The twins are teenagers now so they are ready to have another child. It's their way of not over populating the planet."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" I snapped at him as I sat up.

"What?" he crinkled his face at me.

"Is that your parents having some kind of dig at mine?"

"No! Come on Iv, why are we even talking about this?"

"I have no idea but I'm done."

I get up from the bed and stalk my naked body to the robe, ignoring Jonah calling out to me. Rummaging through my draws, I find the most unflattering piece of nightwear I could. Jonah stood at the entrance of the robe, the bed sheet wrapped around his waist as he looked at me. He got the message, loud and clear.

"You know, it's just as well I'm not pregnant, god forbid we over populate the planet."

"Really?" he said dryly. "Do you really think that attitude and comments like that help?"

"No but it will do until I find something to insult your parents with and then we will see how you like it."

I stormed to the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

"It wasn't meant as an insult Ivy." he called through the door.

There was a thump on the door, most likely his head dropping to it in defeat.

"All I wanted to know is why you aren't pregnant. How did it turn into this?"

I stared at the door with my toothbrush in hand wondering the very same thing. Was I being ridiculous? Miranda and Terrance would never think such nasty things about my parents, was it just Jonah and him speaking before he thinks? I finished cleaning my teeth and opened the door, faced with one very sad Jonah.

"Please Ivy, I didn't mean to insult your parents."

"I know."

I leaned up to my tip toes and kissed him softly, continuing onto the bed. He wasn't far behind me, I could hear the thoughts in his mind, he was confused. He didn't know if he was going to be sleeping on the lounge or if we were good again. I climbed under the bed cover, now bare because of the toga man that was standing by the bed. He sat down beside me with worry in his eyes. Hesitantly he reached for my hand.

"Are we good? Tell me we are good."

"We are good Jonah; you just need to think before you speak. For someone as intelligent as you are Jonah sometimes you really do say some dumb things."

"But we're good, right?"

"Yes Jonah. Why are you repeatedly asking me the same question?"

He toyed with the hideous night dress I had put on, looking at it with confusion. Then it hit me, to him it was a sign that I was angry with him because I always slept naked. I sighed as I flicked the dress off, tossing it to the ground.

"Come to bed Jonah, I am tired and I need my rest."

"Since when do you get tired and need rest?"

He crawled in behind me after discarding the sheet.

"Normally you close your eyes and that's how you spend your nights." he frowned "Are you actually going to sleep? Has your sleep pattern not set yet?"

I looked at mister twenty questions, wondering where he had been in all the nights that I had laid beside him.

"Yes Jonah, I just close my eyes for a few hours and find my usual light sleep. My pattern has been set for about twenty years now and if I don't find my rest then I will get most annoyed at the reason I lost my rest. In this case, that is you. Do you want to keep asking me questions about things you should know or are you done for the night?"

He grinned at me, pulling me to his body.

"I'm done for the night."
