Chapter 6 - Ethan
The humans dance against each other, swaying to the beat, on the balcony my preferential customers make their selection, a human to join them for a good time upstairs. The room is dark, the coloured lights swirl around the room, colouring the humans in shades of the rainbow. One human catches my eye, I don't know if it's the slinky dress revealing her stunning her body, or if it's that hair that caught my eye the day that I first saw her. Josie is here. A feeling of dread runs through my body as I see one of the staff talking to her. Shit, she was selected, even with the glowing mark. There must be a clueless idiot on the balcony. I rush out of the office to the staff member, pulling her aside.
'Not for sale.' I growl at her.
'But she was...'
'Gold mark on her head, don't you see it?'
'Sorry sir.'
She quickly scurries back up the stairs as I wander over to Josie. I slide the soft lengths of hair off her shoulder, revealing the thin string that was holding up the dress. The dress hugged her body, showing off her stunning curves. She is divine almost like she was hand made by our maker not a creation from an act of love. Josie looks up at me, smiling one perfect smile at me.
'What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be resting?'
She shrugs at me. 'I was bored.'
I look up at the balcony, the vampires watch me with interest. They damned well knew she wasn't available, yet they still tried to buy her. I was going to have to call a staff meeting, I knew it. Clearly my words about claimed humans meant nothing.
'We should find somewhere more quiet.'
As we walked up the stairs, I tried to hurry her past the vampires that had turned from the balcony to watch us. It was like I needed a stick to beat them with just to keep them at a distance. I knew Josie was intoxicating but this was unbelievable. Every single vampire on the balcony turned and looked at her. It was like her very presence called to them, demanding their attention. I knew I was going to have to keep a closer eye on her, she would need protecting.
Josie looks around my office, staring at the pictures of the famous people that have been here. Slowly she walks over to the large glass windows, looking out at the patrons below. She walks back over to me and I suddenly become very grateful that I fed minutes before her arrival. I lead her over to the lounge, she takes great delight in pushing me down onto the seat, sitting on my lap. My hands slide under her dress, finding their way higher as she wraps her arms around me, kissing me hard. The door flies open and Claude barrels in.
'Eth... oh shit, sorry dude.'
He stands at the door trying not to look.
'Is there something I can help you with?'
'Cops are here, we're being raided.'
'Of course we are.'
We look at each other as he enters my mind. Everything done, vics gone. Good. Why are they here? Underage drinkers are the excuse. I roll my eyes as he leaves the room.
'Well that certainly puts a dampener on things.' she says dryly climbing off my lap.
I pick up her hand, placing little kisses up her arm. 'Later.'
She smiles and her cheeks turn pink.
'Blackwood.' a familiar gruff voice thrusts a piece of paper at me.
'Gibson.'
He closes the door and makes his way to the drinks cabinet, pouring himself a whiskey.
'You do realise how much money I lose every time you raid my club.'
He sighs as he walks back over, slouching into the leather seat opposite me.
'And you know that I try to keep them to a minimum.'
He looks at Josie and the back at me, I shake my head at him. He sips his whiskey slowly, watching her as she fidgets uncomfortably.
'Won't take too long.' he says to her.
'So, what's new?'
'The Mrs is knocked up again.' He groans.
Josie snuggles into me; her eyes look like she is tired.
'Kev made the football team. You know, the usual shit.'
I nod my head at him as Josie falls asleep. I gently lower her down from my shoulder onto my lap.
'How very caring of you Ethan, turned over a new leaf have we?'
'This one is different.' I pull the hair from her face. 'She is sick, dying.'
'Why not just make it easier on her?'
'Not this one.'
'Going to turn her?'
'If I can.'
The door opens and one of his men walks in. He looks at Josie asleep on my lap. I can hear his thoughts loud and clear, wondering if she is still alive. Her body moves slightly, his mind returns to what he should be thinking about, his job.
'Sir.'
'Finished?'
'Yes sir. All good.'
He waves him off and Gibson smiles at me.
'Another raid well conducted, nothing found. Congratulations.'
'Thanks. Top draw.'
I nod at the credenza by the door. He puts his glass down and walks over, removing the envelope full of money. He slips it into the inside of his jacket and opens the door.
'Try and stay out of trouble.'
Josie wakes as he clicks the door shut. As she sits up she looks around the room rather bewildered. Her eyes squint as she frowns, looking back to me.
'Did I fall asleep?'
'Yep. Time to go back to your hotel.'
She pouts, still looking rather sleepy.
'You are tired, none of that.'
The dance floor was empty; staff were cleaning up the mess that was made as the people fled when the place was being raided. I had no clue why they all ran, unless the door staff was letting in underage humans again. Just another thing to add to the list of things to speak to the staff about.
'Did you have a jacket?'
She nods and passes me the ticket. The girl behind the coat check counter looks at me with a very worried look when I pass her the ticket.
'What?'
'The jackets are gone. When the cops came it was hysteria, they jumped the counter and took whatever they could.'
I huff, looking at Josie in the tiny dress, she is going to freeze the second we step out of the club. I take my jacket off and slip it over her shoulders.
'I'll get you another jacket tomorrow.'
She sleepily nods as I usher her out of the club. The valet brings my car around, she gets in without hesitation, she must really be tired. I know that she might want to have sex with me but she still doesn't trust me. Going to have to work on that one.
