Chapter 25
The werewolf realm is beautiful, when Alex said that it was less civilized I thought that he meant that there were less people, but he meant that it is closer to nature than what we are. Our realm is the eldest and therefore the humans have been around for longer, they are more advanced in their technology, the urban sprawl. The werewolf realm is a verdant playground, the buildings are all castle and Tudor style houses, there are no skyscrapers, no cars, no pollution. It is our realm a few hundred years before except the werewolves have brought in a few useful technologies from our realm.
"When you want to travel between the realms, hold your hand out like this." he holds his hand out flat like he did before. "Think about a key."
I do what he says and a red fire appears in my hand, dying down to a key. It is a beautiful key, old and ornate, at the end is a 'v'.
"The v is for vampire." he says as he makes a key in his own hand, at its end is a 'w'.
Finn takes the key from my hand, flicking it back and forth in his fingers and then like magic, they disappear in his hands.
"To make the door, all you need is a rock face. You need to think about which realm you want, now that there is more than the two. You will be able to return to your realm at any rock face but it will always bring you out at the entry that you entered the realm."
We walk around the edge of the tiny town that borders near the entry point, through a forest, the path clearly set out with little wood chips. The canopy lets the light filter through creating a magical feeling. Finn holds my hand with a big grin.
"I didn't think you would."
I shrug, not really knowing why I stepped into this realm. Liar. You know exactly why you came here.
"I would take you to my castle, except I am guessing that once Alex and Miranda cannot find you they will come looking for you here."
He stops on the path.
"Of course, we can go to the castle if you like, but I have another place, somewhere that no one knows about."
"Ok, the other place."
He grins, taking both of my hands, stepping backwards off the path and into the scrub. It seems like we are walking for an eternity but it is only ten minutes. We reach a little river; Finn removes his shoes. I quickly do the same as we step into the river and walk down the middle of it.
"Why?"
"Throw off the scent. You're in a realm of werewolves remember, when they come looking for you, you will need to be well hidden."
The river ends at a lake, much like the one near the manor house. Secluded and tranquil.
"You can swim right?"
"Yeah, doggie paddle."
"Ooh, low blow." he says with a grin.
On the other side of the lake is a tiny entrance in the rock face, barely visible to the eye. He takes my hand and pulls me through to an area that looks out over the land. In the corner, tucked away is some bedding with blankets. I look out at the land, the trees below us are thick in volume, in the distance I see a castle nestled into the base of the mountain. The sun sets behind it, a pinkie orange hue shines out over the land.
"That's my place."
"It's beautiful."
He starts to remove my wet clothes from me, wringing out the water and placing them over the rocks beside us.
"However did you find this place?"
"After the first meeting, I knew that our paths would cross again, I knew one day I would bring you to my realm. But I also knew that it would be met with anger, so I decided to find somewhere that no one would find us, that we could be alone."
I shiver as he takes the last of my clothes.
"Under the blankets." he nods in their direction.
"Still feeling the cold?"
I nod watching him remove his own wet clothes.
"Oh well, I will keep you warm."
I wake later in the evening, feeling the coldness of the night. Finn has completely wrapped himself around me, which I am really grateful for, his body heat is wonderful. It would be nice if we could light a fire but I suspect that would be like putting a big blinking neon light on the exterior rock face saying, here we are come and find us. Finn was rather subdued with his love, almost like it was a need for love rather than a need for sex. There was no climbing the walls or the ceiling, it was all on the bed under the blankets, but still very, very mind blowing. A cold wind blows through the cave and I shiver, Finn pulls another blanket over us and I slowly fall back asleep.
In the morning, Finn is not in the bed, I wake and redress into my clothes, now dry. He scares me when he walks back into the cave, dripping wet.
"Hey."
He passes me a wet clear bag, full of blood.
"How many of these do you have?"
"A few."
I sink my teeth into the plastic, draining out the blood within.
"Have you eaten?"
He nods.
"Do you think that they will find us?"
He shrugs as he wipes himself down with a towel.
"You are quiet."
Redressing he sighs.
"I can hear my father calling for me, he is really pissed."
"Why? Why do they care if I am here? This was my decision, no one has the right to tell me what to do."
"There's more to it than you realise Steph."
"So tell me."
"I am not allowed to."
"They are looking for us, aren't they?"
He nods.
"It's only a matter of time before they will find us."
He sits on the bed beside me, pulling me into his arms.
I wake to the sound of someone speaking, I open my eyes and see Finn being lifted from the bed by a tall muscle bound man. He speaks in another language.
"Open the door Steph!" Finn says in a panic. "Go home, now!"
I hold out my hand and the fire appears, my hand on the rock wall.
"Come with me." I say as the tears begin to seep out.
The door opens and Finn knees the man, who drops him to the ground. He scrabbles up and follows me back into my realm only to be met by a rather large metal stake, pointed at us. Terrance grabs me and pulls me aside as Finn's father hits him, sending him to the ground.
"Stop it." I cry out but no one listens to me.
I try to struggle from Terrance's grip but he is too strong for me. Finn's father grabs him by the collar of his shirt and drags his unconscious body back into his own realm, taking him away from me. As I struggle with Terrance I focus my mind to disappear. He loses his grip on me and I end up falling to the ground at his feet. I scrabble backwards away from him.
"Stephanie!" he calls out as he looks around the ground.
I see Alex's father and Miranda behind him, also looking. I cannot get past them without them knowing. I find a rock beside me and quickly throw it off to the side so that they think I am moving through the scrub. Of course, they fall for it and they all take off in the direction of where I threw the rock. I quickly get up and run down the path, as I turn the corner I hit something hard. And invisible. It grabs me and appearing before my eyes is Alex.
"Let me go." I hiss.
"No. This is for your own good."
He takes off, with me in his arms, a blur of green passes us and before I know it, I am in my room, the door being locked, trapping me inside.
