Lunchtime.
Ok so I want you to picture this.
You hear the bell for 4th period ring and you groan, knowing that lunch is approaching... You grab your things and leave for lunch. The social hell that practically haunts you. You head to your locker silently, maybe you have your earbuds in listening to some music.
So you head over to your locker, to put away your stuff. And of corse there's a huge crowd near your locker because your locker neighbor just happen to be the "popular" kid. And their chatting with their group of friends, you know. Casually.
You don't know if you should get their attention or not, after all they are in front of YOUR locker, and you need to put away your stuff so you could go to lunch.
But then again they look like their having a good conversation... And you don't really want to interrupt them...
You frantically try and get their attention, but each time your cut off by laughter from one of the kids...
It's at times like these where you wish you could yell, but a couple of teachers were chatting a couple yards away and you didn't want to get into trouble...
You scowl, getting annoyed. But you don't want to be rude and interrupt them...
Finally the kids walk away to go to lunch as the head pop kid got what she needed out of your locker and walked off.
She was so much better then you... Brown hair, tan skin, beautiful green eyes... You were jealous... Maybe she was taller then you, maybe she has the hairstyle you wish you could have, who knows. Maybe she's in high heels and has such a perfect strut.
But whatever it was, it made your heart ache a little. And it wasn't just the fact that she was so pretty. She was kind too, she had plenty of friends too... If only you could be more like her...
Depending on how high your self esteem is, you may start to judge yourself, comparing every ordinary boring feature of yourself to her glamorous lips, or her gorgeous hair.
You sigh and shake your head, deciding to not let it bother you as you open up your locker to get your stuff. Your pencil case was most likely chocked with copics if you liked drawing. Or maybe you have a couple folders from your favorite show... That no one else likes...
Maybe you wore a hoodie that showed your favorite book or character, or maybe you just wore a plain colored t-shirt and jeans.
Maybe you had cut your hair short like a boy, or maybe you liked wearing a certain style... That no one else liked, or saw as normal.
You walk down the halls, and head to lunch. If you could you'd skip this period... But you can't go outside sadly since it wasn't aloud.
Maybe you have a friend you could sit with? Nah... And even if you did they didn't have the same interests as you...
Or they were in their own little group, that you just didn't fit into.
You shake your head deciding to sit as a fairly empty table. Maybe you've tried jumping from table to table, to see if anyone likes the stuff you do, but no success...
Gradually you've given up hope on finding someone with the same interests as you.
You had friends with your interests, but they were either internet friends, or went to a different school...
You do what you like quietly.
Weather it's doing homework, studying, playing on your phone, reading whatever...
You look around, you were surrounded by a group of loud girls.
You spot the one quiet person at the table, they never really do much like you, never talk durning lunch, and just seem kind of alone in their group...
You want to talk to him/her... But what would you say?
What could you say without sounding weird? Maybe you could... No, that wouldn't work either...
Eventually you decide that they won't like you or want to be your friend anyway, and it tugs your heart but you shrug it off and keep going like its nothing.
"Hey I didn't know you like drawing!" Someone might say, but you either ignore them or deny it. "No I don't like drawing, this is someone else's." Or something like that depending on what you were doing...
You may like being alone, but that didn't mean you don't want friends...
You push people out of your life because your concerned that you'll look weird or out of place, afraid that people will gossip or you'll be left and feel alone again...
Now you may be wondering
"oh when does the cute guy/girl come in who finally accepts her for who she is and they have a cute relationship or become close friends?"
It never happens... As sad as it is it never happens. Ever. There's no happy ending, nothing... Even if you do rise up, you fall back down again...
Until you realize that no one really cares about you... People usually ignore you, and it hurts.
You may think you can shrug it off, but the truth is that you can't.
Don't say I wouldn't care because trust me you would. And it would hurt.
This is what it's like to be invisible in a world full of the visible....
