Moving Forward.

Recap:

"Listen to me Rekha, our family is not into love marriage and all. But if you both really prove yourself with your 12th standard results and get into a very good college, I'll understand that you both are not any distraction to each other.

If that happens, then, I shall meet him first and validate whatever you are saying. Okay? "

She smiled through those tears.

"See, now stop crying and make this tea and serve your brother.

He really missed you, okay?"

"Ok Bhabhi!"

"And Rekha?"

"Ha Bhabhi?"

"Never cry or feel bad if you are in love. Things will find their way back at you if they are meant to be. Be strong. Be bold and be hopeful. Okay?"

I saw my little sister in law nod through those words while we both carried the tea trays and biscuits to serve our family.

Days rolled by as normalcy crawled into our lives. The 4 A.M to 10 P.M routine just set itself so perfectly. Cooking, sweeping, mopping, running the business, drawing out course plan for the tution kids and involve in admissions just too the whole time.

But isn't that the typical lifestyle of an Indian bride? For sure I loved to be a part of this, now more than ever.

The stethoscope gift however was kept a secret from my in laws. My husband and me came to a conclusion that we should not be springing ideas and plans on them and get it all messed up.

We had to play things their way, completely and holistically. However so, Raj ji was keen in ensuring that I start off with my preparations, at least.

He said, "It's not just about dreaming dear, it's also about acting accordingly to make things happen."

These words struck my core. It definitely made sense, didn't it?

So, while I stayed in the shop, I did a little bit of research on how to go about all of this.

I had to make a list of all the material I needed, the entrance exams I had to sit for, the equipments I needed and what not!

Since I already had finished my 11th and 12th with biology as my elective, it felt a little easier to follow. However, since I got married and wasn't pushed towards the direction of academics, I felt it all to be overwhelming.

But what made it all simpler was the fact that Raj ji stayed with me, even through these moments.

It was one such afternoon where I was sitting in the store doing my little research in the shop's computer when Rekha came running towards us.

Petrified, I asked her, "What happened?"

"Bhabhi-woh-aaj-result-aa-gayaa!"

Her breathlessness just made me pick up a few words and I realised why she was so tensed.

I immediately switched the tab in the browser to look for her results.

There it was...

SCORE: 560/600

Wow, this was amazing! My little sister in law has seriously worked so hard to be here. My husband was literally jumping with joy as he pulled both of us into one of the most tightest embraces. Happy tears conquered all of us.

"Congratulations my dearest sister! I am so proud of you"

" Thanks Bhai!"

"Idhar aajaaa!", and I pulled her into another warm embrace and kissed her forehead.

Her hardwork has definitely paid off!

While Rekha and Raj ji sprinted back home, I stayed back at the shop.

While I was beaming with pride of her accomplishments, my mind ran through her strong feelings towards Sushant.

But even before I take a step towards it, I really need to convince Raj ji.

As I turned to look at the gate of our home, I caught a glimpse of a young lad's face with a shabby hair and timid eyes, body trembling with fear.

I immediately recognised him!

"Psst..." , I signalled at him.

Sushant first tried to ignore me but my persistent glare and call made it impossible for him to consciously ignore.

He timidly walked towards the me as I gestured him to enter the shop. He was scared and so was I, but this had to happen.

If not now, then was it never?

I looked into the boy's eyes as honesty and sincerity silently oozed out of him.

"Sushant, na?"

"Ha Bhabhi ji..."

"Result aa chuki hai, dekha kyaa?"

"Ha Bhabhi ji... 92%... Rekha's notes... "

As his fear snatched words from his mouth, he gathered courage to speak the relevant ones so I could connect the dots.

But, I really couldn't divert myself from questioning the boy with typical questions.

His answers were wound with maturity and he had a vision of how Rekha would be a part of everything.

That filled my heart with hope and confidence on this relationship.

I smiled at the boy. Our Rekha is definitely lucky to have him. I asked him to leave before my husband comes over.

He looked up to me for assurance, and I told him that over time, he has to prove himself.

As I saw Sushant leave the street, my eyes and heart fixated at two things.

I am the daughter in law of a great household and have adopted a great deal of culture in me.

It is certainly time for me to step up for two things:

One: For myself. Become a doctor. Not just any doctor, but the best and selfless one who is available to everyone.

I certainly do have my husband's support for the same.

Two: Support my sister in law's love and help her get a life partner as loved by her heart.

My husband's dead against this for he still sees her to be his little girl and not as a 18 year old woman who is ready to make these choices.

Well, this is a tough nut to crack, isn't it?
