A New Chapter.
There are certain moments that are framed by your soul, no camera required to capture those perfect times. One such a moment is when your husband holds your son for the first time; the two most important men in my world were together and bonding. I really cannot explain it in words, because the moment felt so right, on so many levels.
It had been a week since, Dev Shukla had entered into our lives. Parenthood is a role that's brand new for both Raj ji and me but Ma and Babaji had been a huge helping hand to the both of us.
Personally, I had been asked to trust my instincts, because, you know, primarily, babies don't talk! So, I had to guess between whether he's hungry, feeling uneasy or is it his washroom time!
Since I had a C-section, the road to recovery was a tad slower than usual. I was in the hospital for 2 more days amidst IVs, and heavy monitoring machinery and then, four days ago, came back to my heavenly solitude, i.e., my very own home.
Dev was perfect; his tiny arms and feet, his round eyes, his beautiful hair, and baby smell, I felt so addicted to him and couldn't leave him out of my sight.
The doctor advised me to sleep while Dev slept, so I don't really feel sleep deprived. The consequence of this was that sunrise and sunset didn't decide how my day was supposed to go!
Well, it was certainly, Devrise and Devset!
The only role that I had to play was motherhood. Ma ji had strictly restricted me from doing any other work, but that was not the case with my husband.
He really had to work round the clock, managing the shop, household work, fatherhood and ofcourse imparting the role of an awesome husband. He's definitely sleep deprived, and I advice him against it, but Raj ji believed in sharing all the duties with me and allowed me to take sufficient rest whenever possible.
I love this man so much, though I was mad at him for his crazy bike ride to come and see me, but I couldn't adhere to that feeling. He makes my heart flutter like a teenage girl and ensures that I am always supported, loved, cared, kissed and pampered.
All in all, we were like a normal family, with no books or exams interrupting us, no classes to attend to, no mumbling formulae to eachother and it felt nice to have this break.
One week rolled out into a month and this life gained steadiness and stability. I felt Dev was growing up too fast, and Ma ji said that this feeling is constant, even after the son is married and has a kid! I chuckled at her.
Rekha was now a college girl and it suited her very well. She knew her priorities so well and I admired that about her. Sushant was always there to drop her home and pick her up since the college, even though it's in our town, it was on the other side and needed her to travel a lot. She did share her day's events and the moments she shared with her guy, and honestly, I found it very cute!
It was yet another evening where Ma ji and me were in the living room, having our tea, playing with Dev and well, waiting for Raj ji and Rekha. The cool breeze felt so refreshing and Dev really did enjoy nature as he let out his toothless laughter. We heard stomping noises at the gate and assumed that both brother and sister had arrived together!
Both looked tensed and also, puzzled at why the other one is having the same expression. The four of us stared at eachother, except for Dev, who felt so happy to have all the people he knew around him!
"Ji, is everything okay?", I asked my husband.
"And Rekha, what about you, are you feeling well?"
"Well-", both of them started together and broke in between!
Sibling Word Sync!
"Raj, you go first!" Ma ji exclaimed.
"Ma actually-
Well the mailman had come-
He stopped at the shop-"
"Raj! Spit it out, don't beat around the bush. We know how a mailman delivers letters!", Ma scowled impatiently.
Raj ji took a deep breath. I could feel the tension creeping through his nerves. He slowly walked down to me and lent out a sealed letter.
"Pavi", he breathed.
All of us blinked at my husband.
"Your results are out!"
My heart stopped for a second. It's been a month and in the wake of adapting myself to the new chapter that life wanted me to walk through, I lost sight of the fact that I'd be getting my results.
Since the letter was sealed, I knew that my husband respected my privacy and, gosh this man!
Even before I could attempt to open it, Rekha's shaky voice interrupted us.
"Bhai, so are yours!"
A dramatic silence fell upon all of us. My heart was beating real fast and Raj ji didn't know hwo to react. Ma ji was baffled herself and the only carefree person in the room was my son!
Ignorance is certainly blissful!
"But- the mailman-
I just-", Raj ji mumbled a few words.
"Bhai, he missed yours and was returning back. I just met him and he handed it over to me", Rekha explained.
"Okay, all of you calm down!" Ma ji said.
"Raj, give yours to Bahu and Bahu, let Raj see your result. This way things will be better for all of us.
Look at all of you! Why are you so tensed? Don't you believe in the work and efforts that you've put?"
We needed that sound scolding.
Also, I really appreciated the idea of my husband seeing my results! He also looked a lot calmer with Ma ji's idea.
We exchanged our envelopes. He sat next to me and squeezed my hand. Our lives were dependent on what's inside of this.
