Chapter 9
Callie
"Sydney, dodge!" Ms. Harriet yelled at Sydney as she threw a saw-blade at her.
"I can't believe I'm not dead yet!" Sydney screamed as a blade shot out at her neck, but she dodged it by sliding on her knees, the blade a millimeter from her face. "WOO!" She screamed as she pumped her fists in the air.
"Sydney, look out!" I screamed as Ms. Harriet unexpectedly threw another. Sydney turned toward the blade and extended her hand.
The blade collided with her hand.
We all shrieked.
Sydney, slowly opening her eyes, looked at her hands that had no blood. "Oh, thank God," She said as she fell on the floor with a relieved sigh. She looked at the blade on the floor that was now stone. Her hand didn't have a single cut on it.
"Why would you throw that without her knowing?" I asked as everyone else gawked at Ms. Harriet.
"I was simply working on y'alls team building skills... also relax. If I knew your minds weren't prepared to warn her, I wouldn't have thrown it," Ms. Harriet said as she walked over to Sydney.
I zoned them out remembering Ms. Harriet can read minds. She told us about her power this morning. Everyone went crazy asking how she was able to read minds... but she never answered. I zoned back into reality. I stared as Ms. Harriet's extended her hand towards Sydney.
"Um... I still can't touch things... unless you want to be stone." Sydney said staring at Ms. Harriet's still extended hand.
Ms. Harriet laughed and pulled a pair of gloves out of her jumpsuit pocket, "These gloves make sure whatever you touch doesn't turn into stone... but you have to take them off in order to use your power. You can't turn things into stone with them on."
Sydney snatched the gloves immediately, gaping at them when they didn't turn into stone. She slid them on her hands, "So... who wants to be the test subject?"
We all backed away. Sydney laughed and touched the wall.
We held our breath... nothing happened.
"WOO!" Sydney screamed, "It was so hard sleeping last night without touching anything."
"Um... I'm pretty-sure your bed was stone when you woke up." Sandra said, carefully grabbing Sydney's hands and laughing out a relief for when she didn't turn into stone.
Sydney pulled away and pumped her fists in the air, "Okay... maybe that happened... but who cares? No one but us is... gonna... see." Her sentence died down when she realized what she was saying. I looked away.
Our parents have been transferred to another lab until we finish training. They are also getting the memories of anything related to our powers or the explosion taken away. The team of scientists who know about us are also taking the footage that was taken at the hospital off all news channels. The only parent that isn't getting their memory wiped is Nea's dad, considering he helped plan this.
I looked at the floor and mumbled, "We have training to do." Everyone looked around the room thinking about our parents.
"Well... I say we do another transformation drill," Ms. Harriet said as she gestured for us to de-transform. We did as she wanted and returned to our normal selves. We all looked like a mess. My blond hair fell in front of my face.
"Alright... ready. Set. GO!" Ms. Harriet yelled as we ripped grabbed our necklaces and disappeared into the white room with the five mirrors. We all appeared in the room at the same time, then sprinted into the mirror, arriving immediately in a perfectly straight line in front of Ms. Harriet. She nodding in approval, "Very good. Y'all are getting good at that. You have almost passed training... but in order to pass training... you have to fight a villain. Who's ready for their first mission?"
Rina
We all arrived at what must be another lab. We drove there in Ms. Harriet's car. "Alright... give me a moment," Ms. Harriet said as we stood in front of the doors to the lab, she walked inside leaving us alone.
We all held our breath waiting to see what she was doing. She walked out of the door with... a surprising handsome boy wearing a red jumpsuit. He looked to be seventeen years old. Wow, he's cute, I thought.
"Luke, meet Callie, Nea, Sydney, Sandra, and Rina," Ms. Harriet said as I winked at him. He smiled. "He's will be the person you will be fighting—"
"Is he a villain?" Sydney asked as she extended her hand, as a weapon, out in front of her.
Luke walked over to Sydney and pushed her hand down, "I can say no... but that's something a villain would say." He has the most beautiful voice ever, my mind screamed.
Sydney squinted at him and took a step back. She then asked, "So... how is this villain going to fight us?" She smirked at him and he smirked back, "Or are you a civilian?"
"You'll see." He said, "Oh, and... I'm not a civilian as you would say."
"Then prove it," Sydney spat back at him.
He looked like he was about to say something, but then looked at Ms. Harriet. She was staring at him. He rolled his... absolutely gorgeous blue eyes... and said, "Alright who wants to challenge me first?"
"We are fighting him separately?" Nea asked.
"Yes, we are going to see what your strengths and weaknesses are before you all fight as a team," Ms. Harriet said as she gestured for everyone to follow her as she walked to the back of the building. She then turned around and walked... into the wall?
Luke did the same as he gestured for us to follow.
We walked inside.
I let go of the breath I was holding as I walked through the wall into, what looked like a training arena. Luke walked into the arena and sat down in the middle of it. I walked in after him and sat down in front of him. He smiled and said, "It appears I have my first challenger."
I have no idea what I was doing but sitting in front of him now... he looks more gorgeous then ever!
"Are you ready?" He asked. I took a deep breath.
"Bring it on," I replied as I immediately transformed and landed in a fighting stance. He stared at me and then got up into a fighting stance. He smirked.
All of a sudden, I saw a flash of light and collapsed on the ground.
