Chapter 3
Sydney
Beep, beep, beep, beep... I heard this noise over and over. I opened my eyes carefully, to find myself staring at a white ceiling. I slowly turned my head to the side to find needles and machines. Wait...
Hospital? I'm alive!
There was something still bugging me. Something I forgot about...
"My friends!" I yelled and regretted as my whole neck hurt from the force. I looked around and found my parents staring at me. They jumped out of their chairs and gave me a hug and then apologized when I said, ow.
I looked down to where they wouldn't look, my hands. I had casts over both of them as if they were broken. Then, a doctor walked up to me and asked if they hurt. They did. He removed the wraps to examine my hands and then... they looked like someone got a sword and slashed them open. I looked away knowing I was going to have nightmares. Then he sprinted to the other side of the room and looked at my other hand. Then he grabbed a needle. Did I mention I. DON'T. LIKE. NEEDLES? I screamed as he touched my wound with the needle, and just then he turned into stone.

Whispers. Voices. People. I'm alive. The whispers turned to yells. The yells turned to screams. The screams to... gasps. What was wrong?
I opened my eyes and looked around the room. Everyone was running around in panic. There were doctors. Three doctors. I was in a hospital. I looked at my hands and they were... paws! I had long claws like a bear. My body wasn't a bear, but only my hands. After, I got a long look I screamed, but instead of a scream it was a roar. The doctors backed away from me. Then, I looked in the mirror. I was slowly turning into a bear.
I jumped out of the bed and thought in my mind. Please let me be a human again! Please! I felt a tingle in my hands and looked into the mirror to see... it didn't work.
I looked at the doctors and realized there were only two there out of the three. Moments later, a security officer walked into the room with the other doctor cowering behind him. The security officer had a taser.
I got scared not knowing what to do. I backed up to get away, but he only came closer. I looked at my no-longer-hands and took a deep breath and held it out in front of him like a stop sign. He then put the taser in front of me only inches away from my hand. I pulled my hand back, but he didn't go away. He only came closer. I didn't want to hurt this man, but I didn't want to get electrocuted either.
He made the first move.
He reached out his arm and put the taser right where my heart would be, and then the world went dark.
Callie
"What's going on?" I managed to say. My throat hurt. My everything hurt. My eyes were still closed, too scared to open them. I kept going back to the thought of my friends bloodied, shredded bodies on the floor. I quickly pushed the thought away.
"You are going to be okay." A voice said.
"Are my friends okay?" I whispered to the voice. I slowly pealed my eyes open to a bright light, but soon adjusted.
"Your friends are fine, just relax." It sounded like a man who said it. A different voice. I looked to my side and saw a man writing notes on a paper, while looking at the screen with her heart rate, blood pressure, and temperature. I looked to my other side and felt my shoulders relax a little more.
"Hello, dear." My mom said. I tried my best to smile, but it was more like a straight line with the tiniest curve on the end.
"How are you feeling?" The man asked. She looked at his outfit and assumed he was the doctor.
"Um..." I took a deep breath. "I could be better."
He didn't laugh. Instead he looked at the chart and then back at me. And looked worried. Not just worried. Horrified.
"Alright relax as best you can, okay." He said while running out of the room. What was going on?
I turned to my mom.
"What is going on?"
"I don't know, honey." She said. "Stay here, I am going to find him and ask what's going on." She ran out of the room, leaving me alone. I tried to sit up and failed. I tried again and failed. On the fifth try I was able to get up... only by a couple of inches.
I turned my head toward the screen he was looking at. I am horrified.
I'm pretty sure having a heart rate at 426 beats per minute isn't a good thing. It kept increasing. 433, 446, 461...
I jumped out of the hospital bed and immediately regretted it. I crumpled to the floor, like a soggy spinach leaf. I tried to get up, but I couldn't. I was useless. If only I could get to the hallway, I thought.
I blinked.
And there I was. In the hallway.
Rina
I stared at my dad as he talked to the doctor. I was sitting up in the hospital bed. My hand twitching, along with my foot. I felt my heart pounding as if it was trying to escape from my body.
"Can I try walking yet?" I asked the doctor. Her and my dad looked at me. Confusion, relief, and worry on the doctor's face. Blankness on my Dad's.
"Are you sure you're feeling alright?" My Dad asked.
"For the last time Dad, I'm fine. Can I please look for my friends and make sure they're okay? Please." I asked practically begging at this point. "Also, can we take the wires off my head?"
"I suppose you can try walking... but be careful." The doctor said.
"I'm right here if you need something to lean on." My Dad said.
I hopped off the bed immediately, eager to stretch. My feet wobbled at first, but other than that, I was okay. I looked at the wires on my head.
"Can you please take this off?" I said gesturing at my forehead. "They are giving me a headache."
"Really?" The doctor asked, looking worried. I looked at his name tag, realizing I never knew his name. Dr. Stephan.
All of a sudden, what felt like a knife slicing my brain in two, a ripple of pain shot through my body. I screamed and fell on the floor. The lights in the room started flickering. The screen connected to the wires shut off. Dr. Harriet and my Dad came over to help me, but it was too late. I grabbed the wires on my forehead and ripple of lightning shot at them. Leaving them unconscious on the floor. And it was all my fault.
Sandra
Running. Sprinting. Escaping. I burst out of the hospital room I was in... that was now bursting in flames. What did I do? I looked behind me and saw a fire rescue squad rushing to the room. What happened? Where are my friends? My friends.
Rina!
"Rina!" I screamed. She was running away from something too. She looked at me.
"Sandra!" She ran up to me and gave me a hug—
"Ouch." I said. "You shocked me."
"Not again." She murmured, staring at her hands. She immediately started crying.
"Rina, what is it? Are you hurt? I'll call a doctor." I said while realizing I hurt a lot also.
"NO!" Rina cried. "I can't go back in there. Why aren't you in your hospital room? You're limping.
"Um..." I said. "I... I'm feeling a lot better so I figured I should go... The doctor dismissed me." I lied, and it did not feel good. Usually Sydney's the liar and the one who gets in trouble. But not today. I am the one who started a fire that came out of my hands. I am the one who is responsible for the burn marks on the doctor. I am also the one who is lying to Rina.
"Rina... I CAN'T DO THIS! There is something wrong with me! I set a room on fire! I don't know what to do." She stared at me, looking horrified.
"There is something wrong with me also! I electrocuted Dr. Stephan and my Dad! The lightning just rippled out of me. I don't know what happened." Rina said.
Now it was my turn to stare.
What is wrong with us?
It might have to do with--
"HELP!"
"Did you here that?" Rina asked.
"Over there." I heard a man say.
Callie. There she was running (limping) from four security guards. I saw her down the hallway then all of a sudden, she disappeared.
And ended up right in front of me.
I took a step back to keep her from falling on me (I don't think I could handle a leaf falling on me), but close enough to catch her before she fell on the floor.
"Callie how did... You were just—"
"No time. RUN!" Then Callie grabbed our wrist and made us run with her down the hallway, her limp getting steadier.
"Callie what is going on?" I asked, struggling to keep up. My mind was jumbled, filled with puzzles I couldn't solve. I started a fire with my bare hands. Rina electrocuted people with nothing, but herself. Callie is running away from security guards—
"Whoa." I said as a tumbled on the ground, letting go of Callie's hand. I looked behind me and saw the guards looked like tiny specks, when two seconds ago they were right behind us... Then the thought hit me.
We just teleported.
